scalp itching and severe skin rash/boils

I am suffering from severe itching in my scalp since May this year. The itching is so severe that I feel like pulling out my scalp. These itching episodes last for a few minutes and there are several such episodes in a day. After scratching my scalp for a while, the itching subsides and I get temporary relief. A month later in June, a red scaly, prickly heat kind of rash began to appear on the back of my neck. I took Acupuncture treatment for a month but got no relief. I then started Homeopathy treatment but that has not helped too. I am not sure of the name of the homeopathy medicines as the doctor does not share names but gives pills. I think he gives me sulphur though.
The rash has become very severe since three days on the back of my neck and appears red, elevated and itchy. (Image attached please). The skin seems dry. It is very irritating and disturbs my sleep too. Nothing gives me relief – cold wind, water, nothing. It gets more severe in the evenings. I have taken half a tablet of anti- histamine some nights to get sleep and feel that brings down the rash in the morning for a few hours too.
A few tiny prickly boil like things have started appearing on my fingers too.
I am 48 years old and menopause has set in about a year ago. I get hot flushes and sweat profusely. I cannot bear heat at all. My sleep is disturbed and irregular and I wake up feeling tired. I am irritable and short tempered. By nature, I am sensitive, hyper active and love to be busy. I am very restless and intolerant. I do not suffer from any other ailment and am not diabetic.

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experience and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering? State the correct location.

Scalp itching and back of neck has a severe rash which is dry and scaly in the mornings and red boil like in the evenings and night. Some minor boil like rash is beginning to appear on my index finger too.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?

I had shoulder tendonitis since January this year wherein I could not move my right arm at all. After physiotherapy and acupuncture it is now much better and movement is there but not 100%. Occasionally my knees and the tendon behind it hurt and I have difficulty in walking. But it happens every now and then and I get better.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?

Frustration at not being able to move my arm completely earlier this year but now that feeling is gone, fear, helplessness, feeling sorry for myself.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.

Frustrated. Feel like giving up, it occurs to me, why me?

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
Cannot connect it to anything. Shoulder problem started this January and scalp itching around May this year.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?

No specific time for the itching, can happen anytime, but generally in the evenings/ night. Rash on back of neck aggravates in the evening/ night.

7. What are the things that aggravate your suffering and those that ameliorate the same? Example: time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.

Can’t pinpoint what aggravates it, even though I have tried observing, but I cannot tolerate heat at all. Air conditioning makes me feel better but does not give me relief. Yes scratching my head furiously for a few seconds/ minutes gives me relief for a while. I cannot bear tight clothing at all, feel asphyxiated.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
I have entered menopause last year and have been experiencing severe hot flashes and sweating.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?

Cold weather makes me feel better.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.

I get angry very easily, am irritable and intolerant. I am hyperactive, hard working and love to be busy and active. I get offended easily and am very sensitive. I don’t take nonsense from anyone.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
Scared

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?

Maybe yes.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
I hate loud noise and bright lights. Yes I have a strong sense of smell too.

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc?

None

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?

I love my husband. Am a family person. But have not been on good terms with one of my sisters for nearly two years now. Do not like her behaviour towards me

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?

My fears are of losing my loved ones and of heights. I do not like flying, but do so when I have to. No dreams.

12. What do you crave in food items and what are your aversions?

I love sweets and even spicy food. Depends on my mood. I do not like food which is not appealing to my eyes, or has a strong smell. I do not like pork or beef

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
I feel very thirsty and drink a lot of water always

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
I feel hungry- normal hunger but do not have a very good appetite. I generally eat small meals but frequently. I cannot bear hunger at all.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?

Acidic food- vinegar, fermented food. Causes my stomach to bloat and reflux.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?

Of late I have started sweating a lot. Earlier I used not hardly sweat. Now on my face, arm pits, upper body. Even hair.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?

My bowels clear daily but I feel my stomach does not clear completely daily. Certain days quantity of stool is less. But am never constipated.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
I am a light sleeper and ever since these hot flashes have started snce two years, my sleep is fairly disturbed. Also during my shoulder problem this year since Jan I sleep badly owing to the pain. But certain days, I sleep soundly. I sleep on my right side. Never on my back. I can’t sleep in that position at all.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
Yes

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?
I am very sensitive and get hurt easily even at this age. I dislike lies and hypocrisy and am an honest person.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

My homeopath gave me sulphur I think but don’t know details as he does not give the name of meds. Only gives the pills. No adverse reaction to those. However I feel since Sunday last my neck rash has aggravated and become quite bad.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?

None actually. Dad had hypertension, high BP, Mother low BP

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.

I am 5 ft 5” tall, medium built and of wheatish complexion with sharp features.

(For Females)
24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.

Appendicitis when I was 13 years old.
Other than that nothing major except what I have mentioned above.

Please take 2 doses of LACHESIS 200C each dose 6 hours apart on a single day only.

You should not take any further dose of any remedy for the next 15 days minimum.

Buy liquid form of the remedy of a good manufacturer and take 3 drops of the remedy in some 5 ml of water. Sip it up in empty stomach and clean mouth. Don't take any food or water one hour before or after taking the dose.

Come back here after 15 days and share your observations.

Thanks but what is it? eczema or psorasis or something else please?

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
In homeopathy, the remedy is given for the individual. The disease isn't that important.

Here the remedy has been selected based on your personality, mentals and generals, so should clear all or most of your problems gradually.

In homeopathy, skin eruptions is not considered as a disease by itself, its a manifestation of something wrong in your other systems. Thus, don't worry much about the name of the disease.

Take the remedy as suggested and note the changes in you.

I have taken the meds as advised by you today with a gap of 6 hrs. But what shall I do when the rash/skin and scalp itches? Can I apply something? That is unbearable. When is that likely to stop please?

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
What do you want to apply?

Lachesis will take some days to produce a response. This response will be inside out and you will be cured not only for this symptom but holistically.

Your sleep will start improving first.

I know it is too early to expect results, but sever scalp itching persists.

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
You have not replied to my last post please. Since last night the itching has increased and today the back of my neck is beginning to get the rash/ boils again, which had disappeared completely with the sulphur med last week. why is this recurring? Do I need to take sulphur again or another dose of Lachesis? Pls advise asap. Thanks

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
The two remedies that may help your acute condition are SULPHUR and NAT MUR.

Your similimmum was Lachesis and I know this will cure most of your problems. Lachesis takes time to create a response.

Meanwhile, if your itch is very intense, you can first address this acute symptom with Sulphur or NatMur in the 200C potency once every 6 hours till the intensity of itch subsides.

Once the itch is gone, you may take a single dose of Lachesis 1M to cure you holistically.

I would suggest Sulphur 200C once every 6 hours for 2 days.

started taking sulphur 200c after six hours yesterday as advised by you please but back of neck is once again full of the red boils like rash. How come? This had gone away the last time I took my earlier doc's meds- possibly sulphur(not sure) and this has reappeared after a week or so. It is also on my index finger now and itches very badly. scalp itching too persists and is very uncomfortable and distressing. Please advise. Thanks

Please let me know how you feel after a day or two. I am just trying to give time for sulphur to create a response.

If sulphur doesn't create any results, the next remedy you should try is MERC SOL 200C every six hours for 2 days maximum.

Wait and watch for the next few days. I am sure this will clear your problem. Don't take nat mur.

As mentioned earlier, been taking sulphur every six hrs and have been doign so for five days now but no relief. The hair on the base of my neck has big, hard hives and itches continuously as does my scalp. Only the rash on the back of my neck this time did not turn into big boils but is like a hard mass of skin. That too persists. Am really at the end of my wits scratching. Shall I continue with sulphur for more days and is it likely to get better or shall I take Merc sol 200 c as you mentioned? What about Lachesis 200c liquid which I have with me? Please advise and help sort out this problem. It is getting unbearable now.

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
Please stop Sulphur. You have taken enough of doses and there has been no reaction.

You have to take MERC SOL 200C as suggested earlier. This will most probably create a response.

Lachesis was given as a constitutional dose for overall improvement. Did you notice any change in your sleep or state of well being after the dose? Anyways, you don't take any further dose of Lachesis. Take Merc sol. That's the right remedy for this acute symptom at present.

rishimba 9 years ago
Yes I felt, my sleep got better with Lachesis. Nothing else. Thanks. will start Merc Sol 200C and report after few days.

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
Today is the second and last day I will be taking Merc Sol 200c as advised bu you. I need to stop it after that right? By when may I expect to see a response and improvement in my condition please? what if the itching continues? even then shall I not take Merc Sol 200C anymore? Please advise. Many thanks

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
Yes, you have to stop Merc Sol after taking it for 2 days because you should not overdose yourself.

I feel, these 6 to 8 doses would be enough to create a response. If you don't feel any change even after about 3 or 4 days, its means we need to change remedy.

I was quite sure that it would show response based on your narrative.

Have not taken any meds after 2 days of Merc Sol 200C as advised since Friday last. 4 days have passed. At times in the day there is no itching at all and I feel I am OK, but then it starts all of a sudden and I scratch my scalp like a possessed woman. It is uncontrollable. The rash on the back of my neck too has been appearing n disappearing. However I have noted that ever since I was taking sulphur it has not become like the red boils that used to appear before. But the problem is definitely not cured and persists. Please advise. Many thanks.

Does it have the same modality? That is, it flares up late in the evening and persists through the night?

Is it better during the day?

Does it flare up when you sweat or in a humid weather?

Please answer all above.

rishimba 9 years ago
No there is no pattern. While it usually increases/flares up in the eve/night, now it happens sometimes during the day too. This is the back of the neck. Scalp itching has never stopped and persists during day an/or night.

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
Do you have NATRUM MUR 200C with you? You can try a few doses and see if it created a favorable response. Take 3 doses only, once in 6 hours. If any change in the symptoms is seen after one dose, don't take the rest.

rishimba 9 years ago
No I do not have any. I only have sulphur, merc col and lachesis at home

Iamhealthy 9 years ago
I suggested merc sol based on the modality that the itch increased at night. Now that there's no specific modality, we need to work on your generals and mentals. So, sulphur and natrum mur are close.

rishimba 9 years ago
No problem. Have purchased Nat Mur 200c and taken the first dose a while ago. Please advise if I should take the second one tonight too? What about sulphur? Do I take that too? what did you mean by that if it gets worse with Nat Mur 200c? Then to stop it. Please clarify. Thanks
