Pain on left side of my head

For several days now I have had this pain on the left side of my face. It REALLY hurts everytime I swallow. I can't tell if the pain is coming from my ear or my throat, but the doctor said it's probably just fluid behind my ear. I really don't think that's it, it has lasted too long and it's very painful! It hasn't even let up one bit! Help!
