Swollen and painful TENDO ACHILLES, right foot

60 Yr. Female.
Swollen and painful TENDO ACHILLES, right foot only. It is Insertional Achilles Tendinitis, so some calcification, for the last 15 years, sometimes improving, sometimes worsening.

Very sharp stitching pain on movement, when worse. About 2-3 CM diameter in swelling, 4-5mm protruding.

Left foot, leg and thigh thinner, foot smaller by one in size.

General worsening in cold/cold exposure.
In general feet/sole burning with tendency to uncover while sleeping.

Dislike for egg, meat, oily food, may vomit after few hours of eating. Dislike for smell too.

Some liking for fruits (apple, etc.) and for smoked/burnt things.

Happy disposition.

When ( time of the day) the pain is maximum?
- No relationship with time of day. It is like Rhus Tox on first move and subsequent moves (standing, lifting foot, putting foot on ground), intense stitching.

How is the pain on walking?
- After few step pain will come down little bit.

Where is the calcification ?
- Insertional Achilles Tendinitis is slow hardening of tendo-achilles with rice like grain appearing in X-Ray.

What medications are taking ?
- SO many it is 15 years or so. Rhus Tox, Ruta, Colchicum, Benz. Acid, Calc Flour, Calc Phos, Symph, Hypericum, Ac. Mur. in various potencies. Also as combination medicine like R11, R34, R55, R73 and other lesser known formulations.

Have you tried any remedies for this if so post name?
- Answered above
Potency and dosage ?
- Answered above

Dislike to what smells?
- Mainly smell of egg omelette

Idea of this post is to hear some suggestion, even if most of the things are tried. Like what comes as top 5 remedies as an homeopath?

Attaching X-RAY.

1. It is insertional (rice grain in Achilles Tendon)
2. New bone formation has happened, That gives valley look.
Entire portion should be smooth.

After some relief from flair, it requires BONE SPUR treatment.

Kaps, I had problem attaching X-RAY. Now it is attached. Thanks

You take the remedies and post the outcome
Normally calcification occurs if there is any injury to the bone as that is the natural reaction of the body
Let me study the normal X-rays I ll get back
Treatment can be tried before going for the surgery

Hello Kaps,

Hypericum 200 and Arnica 200 helped as expected. However when it became unbearable Lidocaine (4%) cream was used. Also walking is very difficult, but a boot provided by hospital (image attached) is letting do movement in home. To sum up:

- Hypericum 200
- Arnica 200
- Lidocaine (4%), that decreases pain signalling to brain
- BOOT, how it works, I can't figure out but it helps and a real support.

Next: Aug 2, appointment for cortisone injection.

Afterwards: focus on remedies that could help dissolve and relevant physiotherapy.

This is 15 years old case with multiple times flair-up. 15 years ago, insertional part was long and thin like long cooked rice. Over years, it has become like short and oval rice.

Flare-up happens while improving as well as while worsening. I am not sure, whether it was due to improving or worsening.

Please provide helpful tips for next 1-2 months.

Thanks

Kaps, thanks for asking. Sorry for delay in response.

Status: On Ruta 200, waiting for Ruta 50M, getting Ruta CM will take long time.

I can't arrange Ruta CM so soon (that will take four weeks). But I can get Ruta 50M in one week. That's what I am trying to do. I was thinking of replying back to you Ruta 50M.

Meanwhile, in home, I have Ruta in 6X, 30X, 30 and 200. So started giving Ruta 200 one dose daily. Improving. She can manage walking better.

Today morning meeting with doctor:
Doctor (Podiatrist) carefully looked using ultrasound and believes that pain should go away in 3-4 weeks.
- Diclofenac 1% cream, four times
- Shoe/sandal with Wedged Heel
- Sleep splint
- Some stretches to strengthen tendon.

If it does not go away in 3-4 weeks, he can give steroid injection. In ultrasound, he sees tendon fibers are splitting at calcification point. He feels that there risk of weakening or breaking of those separated fibers under influence of steroid. So best not to inject steroid, next best defer it as much as possible.

Thank you again.

Hello Kaps,

Ruta 50M arrived day before yesterday. She took one dose day before yesterday and one dose today. Did not take any Ruta 200 after taking 50M.

It is improving. Ruta 50M was smooth. No noticeable effect.

Kindly suggest further.

Thank you.

How much is the improvement?
Don’t repeat so often I feel once week shud be enough

Kaps yesterday
It is 30-40% reduction in pain. That makes easy to move around in home and 10-15 minutes in store.

These (image attached) calf/Achilles tendon stretchers are good relaxant.

Yes, once a week should be good enough.

Thanks
