Aversion to Telephone

Hi Guys,
I'm working with a friend and the most striking symptom that he has is that he can not stand talking on the phone. He's extremley sociable 95% of the time around people (Although he suffers mild panic attacks sometimes and can't bear to be in a crowd) but he can never talk on the phone. No problems text messaging, and has nothing against the people.
Has anyone seen anything like that? It's such a strong symptom that I don't want to disregard it.
Thanks
Dan

Dear Dan.

Obviously we are not going to find such a symptom in our repertory, and when this is the case we always need to look at things from a slightly different angle.

First of all, ask him exactly WHY he cannot talk on the phone. Does this make him anxious? Does he become panicky? Is he scared of becoming contaminated by such close mouth/ear contact with an object? How exactly does this make him feel? Does it occur with everyone, or just certain people? All these questions and different angles of looking at a symptom will always help us find the similium.

The best of luck ;)
