Extremities, limbs

Objective.

Cracking in the joints (twenty-third day),

Audible cracking in the joints (sixth day),

Violent audible cracking, on slight motion of the wrists, ankles, and spine (third day),

Loud cracking in various joints (eighteenth day),

Loud cracking, on moving the extremities, or joints of the spine (twenty-second day),

Unusually loud cracking, on moving the joints of the extremities and vertebrae (thirty-first day),

Weariness in the limbs, ; (twentieth day),

Weakness of all the extremities (second day),

Prostration of the limbs, in the evening,

Subjective.

Pains in the joints (twenty-first day),

Pains in shoulders, arms, finger-joints, hips, and knees (twenty-third day),

Rheumatic pains in nearly all the joints (twenty-fourth day),

Rheumatic pains in the right hip and left elbow (thirtieth day),

Cramps in the limbs,

Drawing in the limbs (twenty-first day),

Drawing in various places in the long bones (one hundred and twenty-eighth day),

Drawing in the forearms and lower legs (twenty-first day),

Drawing on the backs of the hands and feet,

Drawing and jerking in various muscles in the thigh and upper arm, in the evening,

Violent drawing and boring pains in the bones of the left thigh and left upper arm, lasting several minutes and suddenly disappearing (third to ninth days),

Dull drawing pains in various joints of the upper and lower extremities, most severe in the right ankle (thirteenth day),

Dull drawing pain in left hip-joint and left upper arm from shoulder-joint to elbow (thirty-second day),

Dull drawing pain in the left arm and in both lower extremities, becoming more violent in the right foot, and especially tearing, extending into the great toe, where it was most violent (second day),

Tearing-drawing pain in right tibia, right ankle, and wrist, in various phalanges, especially in both thumbs, transient, suddenly changing about (twenty-second day),

Rheumatic pains (or, as the workmen expressed it, "it got into the bones"), shooting and pricking in all the limbs, worse in the morning,

Shooting and pricking pains in all the limbs in the morning; he is stiff all over, and can hardly move,

Tearing in the long bones of the extremities,

Tearing in various joints, especially in the right wrist and finger-joints of the same hand (ninth day),

Tearing in the hands and feet at intervals, in the afternoon (twenty-fifth day),

Tearing in right tibia, and on back of right foot and corresponding ankle, also especially painful in the thumb, on the back of the hand, and in several phalanges of the right hand (thirty-second day),

Tearing pain in right tibia and right ulna, on waking in the morning (twenty-fourth day),

Tearing pain in the ankles and wrists (twenty-seventh day),

Slight tearing in the hands and feet (twenty-fifth day),

Violent tearing in right tibia and various joints of fingers of both hands, so violent in right thumb that he was disabled from writing for more than an hour (twenty-third day),

Transient tearing and stitches in the right axilla and posterior surface of the left thigh (eighth day),

Short tearing pains in the extremities, especially in the anterior portions towards the hands and feet (sixty-sixth day),

Wandering tearing pains in various joints of the upper and lower extremities now in the hip, now in the knee-joints (seventh day),

Dull tearing in various joints, with cracking in them on motion, frequently returned after the proving,

Wandering dull tearing pains in various parts of the extremities (thirty-third day),

Drawing tearing in the right thumb, right tibia, and corresponding great toe (after two hours, thirty-first day),

Drawing-tearing pains in various parts of the upper and lower extremities, in the right ankle, especially violent in the right great toe and the corresponding thumb (eighteenth day),

Acute tearing pains in the lower legs and feet, and also in the forearms and hands; these pains were very peculiar; they recurred in paroxysms and were not diffused, but seemed to be confined to one fibre, as if a single nerve were suddenly torn, on waking in the morning (twenty-seventh day),

Bruised pain in the upper and lower limbs (tenth day),

Bruised pain in the upper and lower limbs, very violent; and tearing in the right wrist and ankle, aggravated by motion (tenth day),

Throbbing in the left forearm, not corresponding to the beat of the pulse, lasting five minutes (thirty-first day),

Upper extremities

Objective.

The arms swelled, became painful, red, and inflamed as far as the shoulder (after three days),

Weariness and weakness of the arms (third day),

Subjective.

Feeling as though the right arm had fallen asleep or were paralyzed, disturbing sleep (ninth day),

Drawing in the bones of the arm (ninety-third day),

Tearing and gnawing in the bones of the right arm and in the thumb and index finger of the right hand; some indications of the same pain in the left hand; in the forenoon (ninety-first day),

Drawing-tearing pain from time to time in the joints of the upper extremities; these pains suddenly change their places (twelfth day),

Acute tearing pain in the bones of the arm, especially in the vicinity of the elbow and wrist (one hundred and twenty-sixth day),

Shoulder.

The axillary glands suppurated but did not break (after three days),

Rheumatic pains in both shoulders, worse at night,

Rheumatic pain in shoulder and elbow on motion, with numbness from shoulder to elbow (after four hours, third day),

Violent tearing-aching pain in left shoulder,

Paralytic drawing in the right shoulder (forty-ninth day),

Pressive pain in the left shoulder, extending thence into the left chest, aggravated on moving the arm, especially on raising it (seventeenth day),

Tearing in the right shoulder, afterwards in the left elbow and forearm, transient, while the other pains continue into the night,

Paralytic tearing on the top of the right shoulder (twenty-sixth day),

At night, soon after lying down, tearing pains in the shoulder and upper arm, on the side not laid upon; on turning, the pain went to the other arm,

Arm.

Frequent, sudden, very violent cramplike pain in the middle of the outer surface of the right upper arm; even after the pain had disappeared the spot remained sensitive (seventeenth day),

Sudden tearing and jerking in the right deltoid muscle, in the evening,

Frequent jerking-tearing from the right shoulder to the elbow (eighth day),

Elbow.

Pain in left elbow, for several hours (second day),

Pain in elbow-joint (thirty-first day),

Drawing and tearing in the right elbow, extending into the hand and right lower leg, preventing the bending up of the foot, after midnight (eighteenth day),

Darting pain in the outside of elbow-joint (half an hour after third dose),

Shooting pain in left elbow,

Forearm.

Pain in a circumscribed spot on the extensor surface of the upper third of the right forearm, more in the muscles and partly in the upper arm; the place is also sensitive to touch (thirty-fifth day),

Burning pain, extending from the middle of the forearm to the wrist, as though the parts had been scalded, lasting two days (after five weeks),

Burning pain in the lower end of the left forearm, though there was nothing visible on the skin; evening (thirty-eighth day),

Dull painful sensation in the forearms during the day, though never violent (sixth day),

Drawing in the bones of the right forearm, on the radial side (forty-second day),

Drawing in the aponeuroses of the muscles of the right forearm (forty-fifth day),

Tearing in both forearms; after awhile tearing in the left shoulder (fortieth day),

Tearing in the forearm (twenty-fourth day),

Tearing in the right forearm and right side of the occiput (forty-sixth day),

Tearing pain in the right ulna, on waking in the morning; after a time it disappeared here and appeared in the right tibia; after rising the pains disappeared entirely (sixty-first day),

Acute tearing pain the whole length of the bones of the right forearm (one hundred and seventeenth day),

Wrist.

Dartings in right wrist (one hour after third dose),

Severe throbbing-darting pain in the left wrist near the pisiform bone, continuing for nearly half an hour (eighth day),

Cramplike tearing above the left wrist, in the evening (third day),

Hand.

Great weakness of the hands, so that he was unable to hold a paper without resting the hand upon a table,

She let things fall from her hands, with weakness and drawing in the arms and distension of the veins of the arms (fourth day),

Drawing in the left hand, after dinner (one hundred and twenty-first day),

Drawing pain in the left hand, in the forearm, and nape of the neck (forty-seventh day),

Sticking in the metacarpal joints, in the morning on waking,

Violent tearing pain on the radial side of the left hand made me groan (fourth day),

Hands and arms feel bruised and lame (sixth day),

Hands felt as the bones as if they had been bruised (45 drops, fourth day),

Fingers.

Twitching of the little finger of the left hand (third day),

Both thumbs are especially painful (sixth day),

Slight aching pains in the second joints of the fingers of the left hand (eighth day),

Drawing in the right index finger and in the spine, in the evening in bed (first day),

Drawing in the little and ring fingers of the left hand, afterwards in the left side of the face and in the right knee, soon after rising in the morning (eighty-first day),

Drawing pain in the right thumb (fifty-seventh day),

Acute pains in the bone of the first phalanx of the left little finger, so that I was obliged to rub it constantly, which brought relief; this pain was seated in the bone itself, was a gnawing-boring pain, and extended towards the tip of the finger, and lasted an hour, in the evening (one hundred and thirty-first day),

Transient but piercing sticking through the bone of the first phalanx of the right middle finger (thirty-eighth day),

Repeated stitches in the metacarpal joints of the right middle finger, towards evening (forty-eighth day),

Tearing in various phalanges of both hands, wandering and transient (twenty-fifth day),

Tearing in the right thumb, afterwards in the left upper arm, then along the arches of the ribs of the left side (seventeenth day),

Tearing pain in the right thumb, lasting through the day with transient intervals (twenty-fourth day),

Lower extremities

Objective.

Trembling of the lower extremities (fourth day),

Giving way of the legs, with necessity to sit down,

Subjective.

Sudden transient cramps in the lower limbs and back of the neck (0.12 grain),

Drawing-tearing pain in the lower limbs, especially in the right great toe (third day),

The whole right leg, especially the hip, was sensitive, so that I was unable to lie upon the right side at night; in the morning a burning pain on the inner side of the right lower leg; in the evening, after walking, a very distressing, tensive, drawing pain in the whole right leg (seventy-third day),

Hip.

Rheumatic pains in hip, coming on at night,

Aching pain in right hip-joint (after three hours and a half, third day),

Aching and jerking pains in the hip, felt only in the day,

Drawing pain in the right hip, extending to the knee,

Pressive pain in the right hip-joint (fifty-fifth day),

Violent pressive pain in the right hip, after dinner (seventy-fifth day),

Drawing-tearing pain in the left hip-joint, lasting a quarter of an hour (thirty-first day),

When sitting, a bruised sensation in the right hip-joint, so that he limps in walking,

Thigh.

Pain in the course of the sciatic nerve (twenty-first day),

Sciatica,

Rheumatic pains in right thigh,

External burning and smarting sensation over the right trochanter major (fourth day),

Feeling of coldness in the right thigh, while the rest of the body was warm (fifteenth day),

Great tension on the anterior surface of the right thigh (fifteenth day),

Sudden tensive pain in the middle of the right musculus sartorius, worse when walking, and especially when ascending steps, relieved when sitting and lying, lasting till he fell asleep,

Drawing pain on the inner side of the right thigh, in the evening (fifty-fifth day),

Darting pain down outside of left thigh (sixth day),

Tearing and drawing in the muscles of the anterior surface of the right thigh (one hundred and fourteenth day),

Transient tearing pain on the inner side of the right thigh and lower leg (seventh day),

Bruised pain in the middle of the right thigh (one hundred and fourth day),

Knee.

Rheumatic pains in knee and hip-joints (fourteenth day),

Rheumatic pains in knee and chest (twelfth day),

Acute rheumatic pains and stiffness in the knees, without swelling, felt only in walking, and not at night,

Tensive pain in the right knee (twenty-seventh day),

Pain in the left knee, as though it were sprained, on rising from sitting a long time; this feeling lasted the whole afternoon; at times associated with a similar pain in left ankle,

Sharp pain in knee (eleventh day),

Sharp pain in right knee and hip-joints, and left breast and shoulder (tenth day),

Sudden tearing in the left knee, in the evening, very painful, and preventing any motion of the joint, lasting some minutes, and reappearing after half an hour,

Sore pain in the right knee, especially noticed on sitting down and rising up (twenty-second day),

Leg.

Heaviness of the right leg (thirty-sixth day),

Heaviness of the lower legs, with burning pain in a corn, on sitting down after going into the house (thirty-third day),

Heaviness and tension in the right lower leg (seventh day),

Great heaviness and tension in the right leg, especially in the knee (forty-third day),

Pain in the bones of the lower leg constant, totally preventing rapid walking, almost intolerable on bending the ankle upward (seventh day),

Violent pain in the bones of the lower legs, extending to the ankles, feeling as though the feet had been broken or bruised, intolerably increased on moving the ankles upwards, so that walking was difficult (sixth day),

Burning on the inner surface of the right lower leg (fifty-fifth day),

Burning on the outer surface of the left lower leg, in the forenoon (twenty-fourth day),

Tension and heaviness in the right leg, in the evening, after a long walk (fifteenth day),

Severe tension in the right leg, in the evening (fifteenth day),

Cramp in his legs and thighs,

Drawing and tearing in the right lower leg, in the tibia, as if in the periosteum; afterwards in the bones of the right forearm (twenty-eighth day),

Tearing pain from left ham down the leg,

Pain in the bone in the middle of the left tibia, suddenly appeared, and after lasting a few seconds suddenly disappeared, but afterwards returned; once this same pain attacked the frontal bone along the left eyebrow, lasting four or five minutes, and did not return (fifth day),

Drawing pain in the right tibia, and drawing in the right hand, in the morning (fifty-first day),

Tearing in the right tibia (twenty-fifth day),

Tearing and pinching above the external malleolus of the left foot, as if in the tibia in the evening (third day),

Bruised pain in spina tibiae, first in one leg, then in the other (thirty-first day),

A pain came on, in the afternoon, in the tendons of the muscles of the calf, as if stretched, much felt in walking, and causing lameness; it extends up to the ham and down to the tendo Achillis; it continued two days,

Cramp in calves of legs,

Frequent twitches in muscles of calves of legs,

Ankle.

A small hard swelling on the inner malleolus of the right foot, only somewhat painful on hard pressure (fifteenth day); this swelling increased, was very hard, and of a rhomboid form, immovable, seemed to be seated on the bone, and only painful on hard pressure (seventeenth day); somewhat decreased (eighteenth day),

Pressive pain on the inner malleolus on the right ankle (forty-eighth day),

Foot.

Sudden numbness and crawling in the forepart of the right foot, while sitting (thirty-eighth day),

Paralyzed feeling in the right foot (twentieth day),

Burning of the feet, especially of the soles (one hundred and fourteenth day),

Feeling as though the muscles in the sole of the foot were cut across, very decidedly hindering walking, in the right foot (after five weeks),

Soreness in the heels in walking, continued for some days after the proving,

Toes.

Pains, heat, and throbbing in the toes,

Acute gouty pain in ball of right great toe, precisely like the pain in left foot, and succeeding the other after an interval of four or five minutes (fifteenth day),

Acute twinging pain in a ball of left great toe, lasting four minutes (fifteenth day),

Painful shooting in the second joint of the great toe, at night, in bed,

Sore pain in the right great toe, in a spot on the inner side where the nail joins the flesh, in the evening (seventy-second day),

Remarkable weariness in the evening (ninth day),

Weakness of the whole body, especially of the thighs (second day),

Weakness, particularly in the region of the navel (eighth day),

Constant weakness,

Great weakness, lasting till noon,

Weakness, even to sinking down (fourth day),

Very decided weakness and sleepiness (though I had walked but little during the day), so great that I was unable to read or write; the eyes closed while sitting, and I nearly fell asleep while eating supper (fortieth day),

Great weakness, so that he was obliged to give up work,

The attacks of vomiting ceased after a sleep of an hour and a half, but there followed great weakness and exhaustion,

Exhaustion (fourth day),

General exhaustion, especially of the limbs, after rising (fifty-fourth day),

General exhaustion and indolence; afterwards, as I began to work, this indolence disappeared, and I was able to work easily, in the afternoon (ninety-ninth day),

Great exhaustion (twenty-sixth day),

Prostration, ; (fourth day),

Great prostration, ; (after one hour and a half),

Great prostration after the slightest motion,

Great prostration, weakness, and sleepiness, with incessant and distressing yawning (after one hour, twenty-third day),

Great prostration with great excitement, so that I was prevented from falling asleep for an hour; it was a sensation as though I were about to be seriously ill (first day),

Extreme prostration of strength (with frontal headache, after vertigo), (30 gtt., 1st dil.),

Quite prostrate (after half an hour),

Very prostrate,

Very uneasy, rolling over, tumbling about, and extremely nervous, for an hour (after one hour),

Very sensitive to the cold air, in the afternoon (eighth day),

Moderately cold air was very distressing, so that I hurried to get into a warm room, where contrary to habit I had a desire for beer, which relieved me (third day),

Almost complete insensibility,

Great venous excitement at times; paroxysmal, with great uneasiness, in the forenoon (one hundred and thirty-second day),

A peculiar sensation through the whole body; it seemed as though an acridity, an impurity, or diathesis, or (what would be an intelligible word to most of us), as if psora had been aroused by Kali Bichromicum, and was giving rise to all my symptoms (seventy-seventh day),

Great disinclination for exertion, lasting for four hours (after fourth dose),

Great disinclination to rise from bed and move about (tenth day),

Desire to rest and sleep; lying down for an hour put an end to the suffering (eighth day),

Feeling of great weakness over the whole body, especially the lower extremities (thirty-fourth day),

Felt weak and was obliged to lie down, almost immediately,

General discomfort, with uneasiness in the morning (one hundred and ninth day),

Great discomfort after rising, a prostration especially felt in the extremities (forty-ninth day),

Indescribable sensation of general discomfort (thirty-first day),

Health gradually declined,

General sick feeling (fourth day), ; without definite symptoms, in afternoon (ninety-ninth day),

Very sick and weak the whole day, so that she feared that she would be really sick, with pale, sickly expression; though she had but one diarrhoea-like stool (second day),

Awoke with all the feelings of having caught a severe cold (thirty-first day),

Rheumatic symptoms (distant pains, etc.) reappeared,

Rheumatic pain in different parts of the body (twentieth day), ; (twenty-second day),

Occasional rheumatic attacks,

Severe cramp in various parts of the body, chiefly calves of legs and inner parts of thighs, with very severe gastro-intestinal inflammation,

Drawing pains, especially in the extremities and other parts of the body, during the day (forty-second day),

Drawing pain in various parts of the body, but uniformly near the bones, as if in the periosteum or in the tendinous expansion lying near it, on waking in the morning (thirty-ninth day),

Drawing pains in the hands, feet, occiput, and face, on waking in the morning; after awhile pressure and drawing between the shoulders, and some tension in the pectoral muscles, before dinner (forty-first day),

Very distressing drawing pains in various parts of the body, especially in the bones of the face, though also in the long bones of the extremities, after rising in the morning (forty-third day),

Stitches in different parts of the body (sixty-first day),

Drawing tearings here and there in the body, especially in the limbs, in the forepart of the chest and between the shoulders, on waking in the morning (twenty-second day),

Drawing-tearing pains alternately in various parts of the body, and suddenly jumping from one place to another (thirty-first day),

Wandering pains in various parts, especially in the joints of the upper and lower extremities; a drawing-tearing pain, which lasts for a short time in one place, and suddenly jumps to another, and disappears on moving the affected part (fourth day),

The pain is much more severe in winter than summer,

All the pains gradually ceased towards evening (second day),

All the pains disappeared permanently, after dinner,

All the symptoms disappeared after a short but refreshing sleep (seventh day),
