GENERALITIES

Fatigue

Very much fatigued, in the morning (fourteenth day),

Dreams of danger from water, fire, and the like,

Dreams of sickness, or of the breaking of one of her teeth,

Generalities

Complained of great burning pain in the stomach, and in about five minutes vomited some glairy fluid. Some slight shivering and tremulous motion of the hands occurred, with an unsteady attempt at walking. Pulse quick and feeble,

Experiment 1.

About an hour after I had taken the first draught, I took a second. My pulse beat 70 before I took it, but in one minute after no more than 60, though it soon became quicker, so as at the end of ten minutes to beat 68, and in a few minutes more 70. As soon as I had taken it I felt a chilliness all over my body, but more particularly at my stomach, which continued for about twenty minutes to give me a good deal of uneasiness. It then began to decrease, and in little more than half an hour was entirely gone off.

Experiment 3.

The next day I repeated the same experiment. Before I took the dose my pulse beat 64; the second minute after the strokes were reduced to 60; the fifth minute after they were 63, and soon came to 64, as before I took it.

Experiment 4.

The day following I took a drachm dissolved in 2 ounces of water. Before I took it my pulse beat 73; the second minute after it feel to 66; the fourth minute after it rose to 69; and from that time became still more frequent, till at the end of nine minutes it had recovered its usual strength and was at 73.

I dissolved 6 drachms in a quart of water, which I began to drink early in the morning, and by taking small draughts of it as often as I had convenience. I finished the whole at 8 o'clock that night without feeling any uneasiness from it, or being sensible of its having operated any other way than by urine.

Experiment 8.

Two days after I dissolved 1 ounce of Nitre in the same quantity of water, and drank it in the same time; it gave me no uneasiness, nor had any sensible effects.

Objective.

The whole body, neck, and legs were swelled so rapidly, that it was with difficulty that she could be undressed,

Trembling over the whole body,

Trembling of the nerves of the whole body, with great general restlessness (second day),

Involuntary trembling of one-half of the body,

Twitchings,

Jerking without pain here and there, over the whole body,

Rheumatic, somewhat painful stiffness of almost the whole body, especially of the arms, neck, and back, worse in the cold, better in the warmth,

Paralysis of the organs of sense,

General weariness and numbness of the lower extremities (first day),

Weakness so that she could not stand and could scarcely sit,

Weakness of the whole body (second day),

Weakness continued long after the attack,

Weakly for a considerable period,

Great weakness (thirteenth day),

Great weakness of the whole body, especially of the limbs (second day),

Great weakness, a peculiar prostration of the whole body (fourth day),

Great weakness of the whole body, from afternoon till evening (fifth day),

Paralytic-like muscular weakness,

Tremulous weakness, with frequent hard pulse and rapid respiration, in the morning (fourth day),

General exhaustion (first day),

Great exhaustion after mental labor, in the morning (tenth day),

Great prostration and weakness, with unusual paleness of the face (eighth day),

Great prostration, as after violent exertion, with heaviness of the head; she stumbles over everything while walking,

Quite unable to move for about a week,

State of collapse (after four hours),

Lying on her back in a collapsed state, with her legs drawn up, as in peritonitis (second day),

Faintness,

Attack of faintness at 10 P.M. (while blowing on an instrument with tight clothes); it seems to him as though everything in the room turned around; he sank down, but caught himself while sinking; therewith the head was at one time hot at another cold, with unsteady standing, and a sensation as if the attack would return,

Fainted away (a few minutes after second dose),

Subjective.

Suddenly she became so sick, weak, and sleepy, that she was obliged to lie down without being able to open the eyes; she slumbered, and after she awoke, was unable to collect her senses,

Chronic illness,

Painful tearing, which always intermits for some time, torments him day and night, only transiently dissipated by rubbing (twenty-second day),

(The bruised feeling of the body became worse), (after four hours),

Pulsations, here and there, after the midday nap (ninth day),

Smelling Camphora ^camphor aggravated the symptoms,
