The action of the drug on the eyes was very marked at the time the proving was made, and the symptoms have since been so persistent that I fear the results are permanent. The eyes feel constantly weak, as if the lids must be kept closed to protect the ball. The conjunctiva seems dry and painful. When reading or writing, the eyes soon become tired and painful. A slight exposure to cold or wind produces congestion of the conjunctiva. After looking at an object a short time it becomes blurred and indistinct.

the eyes are very sensitive to light. All the eye symptoms are worse in the morning, become gradually less severe, and disappear towards evening. The eyes do not suffer especially from artificial light,.

Eyes congested. eyes and orbital region much swollen. Agglutination of the lids on awaking in the morning. Eyes sensitive to the light. Eyes smart as from wood smoke. OEdema of the orbital region. most of the soft part of the palate is thickened, and presents to a degree the same appearance as the fauces.

color deepest on inner edge of tonsils and uvula, and pales more the farther from that point till lost well up on the arch (eighteenth day).

throat not so dark and rough in appearance (twentieth day).

pillars of fauces, uvula, and surface of pharynx, so far as can be seen, are still a little thickened and of a pale-red color, and some mucus is seen in places adherent to the surface of the pharynx (twenty-fifth day).

fauces and soft part of palate and pharynx, so far as can be seen, are of a pale-red color, and the vessels are full, and the parts just named oedematous (twenty-ninth day),.

Thirsty, dry, stiff feeling in the fauces and pharynx. Hawking of tough yellow or grayish mucus. Thickening of the uvula, tonsils, and pharynx.

irregular on the surface, swollen purplish-red, and covered with an abundance of yellowish-gray mucus. Soft parts of the throat thickened. Difficulty in modulating the voice. (The thickening of the mucous membrane of the fauces and pharynx did not entirely disappear for more than six months after I stopped taking the drug, but there was no soreness felt at any time),.

Feeling of soreness and oppression through chest during motion or exertion. Taking a full inspiration increases the soreness (eighth, ninth, and tenth days).

chest feels sorer (fifteenth day).

entire chest feels sore on taking an inspiration of any depth whatever (seventeenth day).

has felt sore through the entire chest all day (twentieth day).

soreness of lungs, as for some days past (twenty-first, twenty-third, and twenty-fourth days),.

Quickly passing pain in anterior part of chest, below seventh rib, about two inches from sternum, on each side, but not in both sides at the same time.

Ever since taking the drug the respiratory mucous membrane has been unusually sensitive to the influences of cold and irritating dust or vapor. Every day for two years I have hawked up more or less thick white mucus, while thick yellow mucus has been discharged from the posterior nares. These symptoms are aggravated by the inhalation of dust, smoke, etc. There is a tendency to the formation of dry crusts in the nose.

when these are removed blood follows. There is a pretty constant compressive pain at the root of the nose. After a trifling exposure to cold my throat assumes the red puffy appearance noticed at the time of the proving.

no pain accompanies this condition,.

Pain between scapulae quite severe, causing an inclination of shoulder forward for relief.

it is felt at every inspiration, the deeper the inspiration the severer the pain, lasting form 8 till 9 A.M., and gradually passing around below the point of right scapula to a position on right side of chest below ninth and across tenth rib. The part named is very sore on taking a full breath (eleventh day),.

Severe pain between the scapulae, causing an inclination of the shoulders forward for relief, felt at every inspiration, and gradually passing around below the point of the right scapula to a position on the right side of the chest, below the ninth and across the tenth rib.

soreness commencing at the lower cervical vertebra, and extending as far down as the points of and under both scapulae. On taking a deeper inspiration than usual, a stitching pain is felt in the space between the scapulae,.

Tenderness in entire epigastric region, most marked immediately below the ensiform (eighth and ninth days).

tender on pressure, in epigastric region for some days past (twelfth day).

quite tender, on pressure, in epigastric region, in the morning.

less so in afternoon, but still distinctly felt on pressing the part (twenty-fifth day),.

Quite a tender feeling in epigastric region felt all the time, but worse on pressing over the part (fourth day).

feel quite well, but soreness on pressing over epigastrium, extending to upper part of ensiform (sixth day).

tender to touch in epigastric region (seventh and eighth days).

Appetite not good. could eat, but had no relish for the food (eleventh day).

had an appetite for breakfast (twelfth day).

the pain in abdomen seems to be caused by gas, as much of it is passed at stool. Waked at 3 A.M., by sharp cutting pains in abdomen, relieved by passing off flatus (fourteenth day).

Abdomen painful and swollen.

passage of gas afforded some relief, but straining pressure on walking produced sharp pain (third day).

wakened three times by the pain during the night. It did not come so often as during the day, but was just as severe and lasted as long. This pain continued at intervals of about an hour, and of the same degree of severity as yesterday, till 4 P.M. (nineteenth day),.

Awakened by pain in abdomen, and soon after had a copious lumpy stool, which came on so suddenly as to hurry me out of bed. At 8, and also at 11 A.M., had loose lumpy stools, with some wind (fifth day), Pain and irresistible desire for stool, the discharge being large and soft.

Urine light-yellow, cloudy, and a precipitate seen after standing two hours.

reaction acid. sp. gr. 1029. Heat precipitates a dense, white granular, which dissolves when mixed with or when Nitric Acid nitric acid is used, leaving the urine clear and of a reddish-brown color. A few epithelial scales, a cast, some fat-globules, and some phosphates seen under microscope. Urine at 9.40 P.M., opaque, but of natural and strong odor, acid reaction, and sp. gr. 1030. No albumen, but large quantity of phosphates (second day).

Dull aching pain across sacrum and down outer sides of thighs as far as the knees, the whole of the thighs partaking of the feeling (twelfth day).

weary aching across sacrum and down the limbs, the same as yesterday, till 10 A.M. From that time was walking nearly all day, and felt better while walking, but on sitting down the same feeling returned (fifteenth day),.

Sharp pain on moving, below trochanter on left side, reaching through to left spermatic cord, which feels a little sore to touch.

the pain came on twice suddenly, lasted but a few moments, and disappeared, returning on crossing the thighs (fifteenth day).

pain under trochanter felt occasionally through the day as a moderate aching (sixteenth day),.

Dull pain for half an hour on inside of popliteal space of right leg, came on about noon while lying, and was accompanied by a disagreeable feeling through the muscular part of the posterior portion of the leg, which passed off while walking (twelfth day).

pain in popliteal space, while walking about, lasting about five minutes, and not affecting this time the posterior part of the leg, followed very soon by cramp in the plantar surface of the right foot, between the os calcis and metatarsal bones, lasting at intervals the rest of the evening (had felt something like it while swimming), at 7 P.M. (thirteenth day).

pain again about mid-afternoon, for an hour (seventeenth day),.

Some pain in left leg, which commenced soon after rising, in morning, in outer part of knee-joint, extending to tarsus, and is felt over all the aspects of the leg (anterior, posterior, and lateral). It is most severe just below the popliteal space at junction of heads of gastrocnemius muscle.

feel sore all over, but left leg feels the worst. Pains in legs have disappeared, at 8.50 P.M. (forty-third day).

pains in knees and legs came on about 3 P.M., just as before, but worse in left hip-joint, at 4.50 P.M. (forty-fourth day).

neuralgic pains in knees and legs, as before at 7.05 P.M. (forty-fifth day),.

A corn has appeared on the bottom of each phalanx of each small toe. Never had any before, except one which left in a few days. Am wearing the same shoes as for months past.

felt no friction till the formation was completed.

sick at stomach, without nausea, at 1.40 P.M. Sickness of stomach continues, at 9.45 P.M. Nausea not sufficient to cause vomiting (forty-second day),.

GENERAL SYMPTOMS.

A remedy for nasal catarrh, with headache, pain at root of nose, dry and painful eyes. Psoriasis ( Arsenicum Album Ars.; Chrysoph-ac.; thyroid.) Bronchitis of children over seven years. Facilitates the termination of the cold and conserves strength and appetite ( Cartier.)

Sodium arsenate. Hydric, di-sodic arsenate. Na2HAsO412H2O. Solution. Trituration.

Nat ars. has been very extensively proved, notably by Imbert Gourbeyre. The irritating arsenical effects preponderate. The principal clinical use of Nat ars. has been in diphtheria (dark purple throat, great swelling, much prostration, not much pain) and in affections of the eyes and nose, and root of nose. Some of the Peculiar Symptoms are Wavering, floating sensation on turning head. Eyeballs feel stiff feel too large for lids to close over. Scratching beneath lids on rolling eyeballs. Pain at root of nose. Feeling as if thyroid body were compressed by thumb and finger. Feeling of lump in throat.

of blow on testicle. as if smoke inhaled into lungs. Emaciation. OEdema. Pain between scapulae amel. bending forward. There is the restlessness of Arsenicum Album Arsen.

and the thirst, and also the chilliness, with the hot head and headache agg. by heat. The symptoms are agg. on pressure. agg. By motion.

jarring. least exertion. Interscapular pain amel. bending forward. agg. On moving is very prominent throughout the proving.

also agg. during the day. Nasal, obstruction and chilliness agg. at night. There is the Arsenicum Album Arsen. chilliness and sensitiveness to cold air.

but itching is agg. when heated by exercise.

warm things = burning in stomach.

and cold drinks agg. nausea. Wind = conjunctivitis. Right side of head.

left testicle. and left leg most affected.

Modalities The symptoms of Natrum Arsenicum appear in the daytime, in the MORNING, in the forenoon, evening, night and after MIDNIGHT

The symptoms are worse in the cold air, but warm open air ameliorates; the mental symptoms are better in the open air; worse from cold in genera l; in cold air; becoming cold; in cold, wet weather; the patient takes cold easily.

The symptoms are worse ascending. Anemia and weakness and dropsy of the limbs. Complaints worse after eating. The body is losing flesh. The symptoms come on FROM EXERTION Worse from butter, cold drinks, cold food, fats, fruits, milk, pork, vinegar.

Formication all over the body and in the limbs; induration of glands; inflammation in any part. Marked physical irritability and irritable weakness. Jarring aggravates many symptoms. Lassitude prevails throughout the provings.

Desire to lie down and not be disturbed; yet lying often makes the symptoms worse and aggravation is marked after lying. Still many symptoms are worse from motion; there is a strong aversion to motion.

Mucous secretions are copious. After exposure to cold he becomes rheumatic. Aching, burning and pressing pains; sore pains; stitching pains in all parts; darting pains in all parts; downward and upward. Perspiration does not ameliorate. Pressure aggravates. General pulsation.

Pulse irregular. Rheumatic and malarial patients, oversensitive, internally and externally. Electric shocks in the body. Symptoms predominate on the right side. Wants to sit or lie and not be disturbed. There are symptoms before sleep, during sleep, and on waking; trembling is a strong symptom. Twitching of the muscles.

Walking in the open air increases the physical symptoms, but improves the mental symptoms; walking fast excites many symptoms. Weakness in the morning, during menses, on slight exertion, while walking Wet weather brings out the symptoms. Worse from wine and in winter.

Anxiety in the evening in bed; at night in bed apprehensive anxiety; during fever; on waking.

Concentration of mind difficult in the house, better in the open air.

confusion of mind in the evening. Conscientious about trifles. Discontented.

discouraged and, at times, in despair. He is easily distracted. Dullness of mind, better in the open air. Easily excited, Mental exertion makes the symptoms worse. Fear in the evening on going to bed.

in a crowd. of impending disease.

Easily frightened; forgetful; he feels constantly hurried. Hysterical and her mind is very active; ideas very active. Imbecility, irritability, impatience; indifferent to all joy. Aversion to mental work and to business; aversion to reading; indolence; memory weak

Lamenting, laughing, loathing of life, loquacity. The mental symptoms are all mild. Mirthful, hilarious; prostration of mind. She becomes quarrelsome, Restlessness; nights, tossing, anxious restlessness. Sadness in the evening; during fever. Sensitive to noise; startled easily, by noise, on going to sleep, from sleep.

Suspicious. Indisposed to talk; disturbed by the conversation of people. Timidity with a vacant feeling of mind. Weeping. Vertigo while walking. When the above general symptoms are present in any considerable number the following particulars will yield to Natrum Arsenicum.

Sore and tender scalp; forehead. Stitching pains in the head; stunning pains in the head; tearing in the head; in the forehead; in the sides of the head.

Perspiration on the forehead Pulsation in the head; forehead, temples, vertex; with fullness in the forehead.

Dryness. Sensation of enlargement of the eyes in the morning on waking. Granular lids. The eyes feel hot. Inflammation of the conjunctiva from cold or wind.

Redness of THE VEINS Staring eyes; stiffness of the lids; of the eyeballs Strabismus. Swollen eyes; LIDS; oedematous lids; supra-orbital oedema Ulceration of the cornea. Weak eyes and vision; vision blurred; tires out when reading.

Dark colors before the eyes. Vision dim, on looking long; wipes eyes for relief. Flickering, foggy vision. Hemiopia. Myopia. Sparks before the eyes.

Noises morning, evening, with vertigo, humming, ringing, roaring, rushing in the right ear; singing. Pain in ears morning, stitching, tearing, behind the ears. The ears feel stopped. Hearing acute; for noises; impaired.

Coryza worse in open air, with cough, fluent or dry, fluent alternating with dry; discharge copious, crusts, dry bloody crusts, hard bluish mucus, offensive, purulent, suppressed, thick, viscid, WATERY, yellow.

Dryness in nose. Epistaxis after removing crusts from nose; bright red blood. Obstruction of nose at night (right); morning on waking; mucous membrane thickened and it is difficult to breathe through the nose. Ozoena.

The nose is red. Pain in the nose, in the roof of nose; burning, pressing at root of nose; rawness in nose. Smell acute at first, later wanting. Frequent, violent sneezing.

Discoloration of the face; bluish, around eyes; earthy; PALE; red; yellow; liver spots. Face is drawn. Eruptions on the face; forehead and lips; AROUND THE MOUTH; on the nose; comedones; herpes on lips; moist eruptions; pimples; vesicles. The face is hot and itching.

Pain on moving the jaw. The face feels puffed. Stiffness of muscles of mastication. Swelling in the morning on waking; molar bones feel swollen; oedematous; swollen parotids. Twitching of face. Ulcer en the lips.

Aphthae in the mouth; bleeding gums; cracked and corrugated tongue. Discoloration redness of mouth and tongue; white tongue; yellow tongue. Dryness of mouth; tongue; flabby tongue. Inflammation of mouth and tongue. Salivation and saliva is viscid.

Stammering speech. Taste bitter in the morning; metallic, saltish, SOUR, Sweetish. Ulceration in mouth. Vesicles in mouth and on tongue; burning. The teeth become loose. Pain in the teeth; night; pulsating; warmth ameliorates; jerking pains, tearing pains.

Sensation of a lump in the throat; gray exudation in the throat. It is said to have cured diphtheria. Mucus in the throat; tough gelatinous, grayish, yellow, white, from posterior nares. Pain in throat on swallowing, on empty swallowing, but no pain on swallowing food or drink; burning, sore, stitching.

Roughness in the throat; scraping in the throat. Swallowing difficult. Swollen pharynx, uvula and tonsils; oedematous. uvula hangs down like a water bag. Constriction in the region of the thyroid gland. Stiffness in the sides of the neck.

Desires beer, bread, cold drinks, sweet things. Disordered stomach; by milk. Stomach is distended; sensation of emptiness; eructations afternoon, after eating; empty, tasting of food, SOUR after, eating, waterbrash.

Fullness in the stomach after eating. Heartburn. Flushes of heat, heaviness after eating. Hiccough after eating, indigestion is very marked. Loathing of food. Nausea; after eating; constant; during cough; after cold drinks; with headache; during menses.

Pulsation in the stomach. Retching when raising mucus from the throat. Sinking sensation. Sensation of a stone in the stomach. Tension in the stomach.

Thirst morning; evening; night; burning thirst; extreme thirst; unquenchable thirst; drinks often but small drinks. Thirstlessness. Vomiting on coughing; after eating; bile; bitter; blood; mucus; sour; watery.

Heavy feeling in abdomen. Inflammation of liver; spleen. Liver affections. Pain in the abdomen; at night; after eating; from flatus; before a diarrhoea; before stool; better after stool and after passing flatus; in hypochondria; hypogastrium; in region of umbilicus.

Cramping. before stool, better by passing flatus and stool. Cutting.

Burning in the urethra when passing urine. Urine ALBUMINOUS; burning; dark; pale; copious at night; clear as water; offensive, scanty; with mucus and phosphate, Specific gravity decreased; 1050.

Inflammation of glans penis, prepuce and testes. Stitching of the genitals, penis, scrotum. Sore ness left testis. Seminal emissions. Swollen penis and testes.

In the female the desire is increased. Leucorrhea; copious; offensive; thick; yellow. Menses copious; too soon; protracted; scanty Metrorrhagia. Pain in the uterus.

The symptoms of the larynx are worse from dust, smoke or cold air. Voice hoarse ness with coryza; lost; weak. Respiration is fast and deep; miner's asthma from coal dust; difficult on ascending, short.

Oppression of chest on exertion and deep breathing; heart.

Pain in the chest, during cough; in the heart; burning, cutting below the seventh rib; pressing; rawness; sore from coughing; stitching Palpitation of the heart; night; anxious; ascending steps; exertion; tumultuous. Sensation as if he had inhaled smoke.
