Dear Sir,

Suffering from Chronic Constipation. Suffered from Annal Fissure for last 4-5 months. All the tremendously paiful symptoms have subsided by 80%.

Constipation is something that is troubling me. Although bowel passing happens every morning, the stool is inconsistent and hard, with not very strong urge to pass stool. Discomfort in Anal area after bowel passing, though not as bad as it used to be when I was suffering from fussure a month back.

My toungue is white with sediments. Stool of less quantity, small volume and inconsistent, yet hard - that hurts, and creates and irritation throughout the day. In fact, during last three months I have had couple of occassions, where I had liquid stool for couple of days and then again went back to hard stool, without any change in routine.

Currently having Ayurvedic medicines - Pirrhoids Tablets (2 Tabs, twice daily), Abhayaristha Tonic (2 spoons, twice daily)) I was also advised to take Panchsakar Churna 1 spoon daily before bedtime (purgative), but since I thought it is habbit forming I have it only 2/3 times a week maximum. I also take psyllium husk (Isabgul)-I spoon before bed-time (2 times a week).

I have also given some homeopathic medicines by my local doctor (Bryonia Alba 200, every morning, 4-5 globules and Nux Vom 30 , 4-5 globules, every night before going to bed.

I have fish (1 pc maximum 3-4 times a week), no meat for last 3 months, daal, lots of veg/fruits, atleast 5 litres of water daily, and no spicy outside food, less rice, more brown bread chapatis.

I do exercise/yoga for about 45 minutes atleast 4 days a week.

My routine for last 3 months has helped me reduce fissure dramatically, but the conmstipation is creating a lot of problems. I need relief from constipation as it is affecting my personal and professional life.

I have a very stressful professional life and my parents have history of constipation & piles/fistula.

Pls help.

Dear Dr. Mahfooz,

My homeopath doctor intially prescribed a combination of Sulpher 200, Bryonia-200 and Nux Vom 30, but stopped Sulpher after a week since there was no sign of reduction in pain/itching/ tenderness in the anus. He then prescribed Bryonia-200 in the morning, Acid Nitric 200 in the afternoon and Nux Vom 30 in before going to bed in the night. This did help a lot in reducing the pain, burning sensation and itching, although I would still be constipated without the Ayurvedic Purgative.

Last Sunday I met another homeopath, who asked me to stop all medication and prescribed me the following:

Acid Nitric 1000 : 4 Doses (prepared by the pharmacist, C Ringer and Co.), to be taken in the morning, empty stomach on alternative days.

Chelidonium (Mother Tincture): 7 drops in little water, every night before going to bed.

I have had two doses on Acid Nitric 1000 and 3 doses of Chelidonium till now, and have stopped, Bryonia, Nux and other Ayurvedic Medications completely since last Sunday.

My concern is that all of a sudden again from last 3-4 days I am having very strong constipation. I feel the urge every morning, but have great difficulty in passing the stool, as if the stool is not being able to come out of the rectum. Sometimes the stoll seems to retract into the rectum out of fear of pain. I have to put pressure to evacuate and that is again hurting me in the rectum and creating irritation in the rectum.

I need your advice.

I also need to know, if it is ok to take Nux Vom 30 along with Acid Nitric 1000 (I felt Nux Vom does help me quite a bit). Or is it better to go for the combination of Bryo-Acid Nit-Nux Vom?

Is it ok to continue using Ayurvedic Laxative / Purgative?

Doctor, I would look forward to your advice.

Thanks a lot.

Dear Mr. Anbazhagan,

Thanks a lot for your advice. But, I have achieved great relief from my local homeopath's prescription. Although initially the symptoms increased greatly and I have had great pain for about a week, I persisted and today I feel much much better and still improving by the day. I guess my doctor currently identified that the main problem lies in a my troublesome lever (the cause), constipation is the effect while fissure was the painful outcome. The following was the prescription given:

Acid Nitric 1000 : 4 Doses to be taken in the morning, empty stomach on alternative days.

Chelidonium Majus: 7 drops in little water, every night before going to bed.

Currently I am continuing with Chelidonium Majus (I have been asked to continue the same for about 3 months).

I am really greatful to my homeopath as well as all the well-wishers in this useful site who tried to suggest remedies to pull me out of the pain.

Thanks a lot to all.

Best regards,

Dear Mr. Murthy,

If you re-call this string started with my case of anal fissures and Dr. Mahfooz suggesting medical a medical remedy.

I did update the forum that my homeopath, asked me to discontinue all medications for a week, including use of laxatives / purgatives, etc. Subsequently he prescribed me Acit Nitric 1M (4 doses, to be takem on alternative mornings) and Chelidonium Majus (7 drops of the same in little water before retiring to bed in the night.

The conditions initially got aggravated, and I had a sore anus for almost a week, but could feel that the fissures were getting cured from within slowly down the canal. After the 3rd dose I started feeling better and after 4th dose I felt much better. I have been advised to finish off the 30 ml of Chelidonium as per the suggested dosage.

Since then 60 days have passed and the symptoms have swayed like pendulum. I would be feeling great and no pain while passing stool or irritation afterwards for 4-5 days and then i would have 2-3 days of discomfort (the degree much lesser than before though) and then I would feel better again. Constipation and lethargic peristalsis has improved by leaps and bounce.

My homeopath, didn't prescribe anything further, even when I informed me of the developments.

I hope I will be able to recover completely without any further medication. He has asked me to take 1 drop of Acid Nitric in the morning for two consequtive days, if my discomfort is too much (which is not), otherwise refrain from taking anything further.

Just for your information, I have suffered from IBS all my life ... sometime constipated, sometimes dyssentric, sometimes loose motion, etc. Infact I used to be dyssentric just before getting attacked with fissures and constipation. While I was having dyssentry I used to have dark, inconsistent stool, couldn't control urge especially after major meals.

Now my stool is atleast yellowish and more or less consistent, except for the days I feel discomfort (when the stool gets a little large and hard.)

FYI, my earlier doctor had prescribed a combo - Bryonia 200 (4-5 globules every morning) and Nux vom 30 (4-5 globules every night).... these initially helped but became virtually ineffective after 4 months of medication.

Sir, your thoughts pls on my condition.

Vaskar

Dear Mr. Murthy,

This morning too I have had some discomfort while passing stool. The urge was there, after I had about a litre of water (which I have every morning). But I had to exhert some pressure while pushing the stool out of the rectum. The first block was little hard (this problem persisits since the start of the problem, though the hardness of the first stool has reduced.), followed by softer stool. But the damage is always done by the first burst of hard stool.
Now I am at office ... and having irritation in sitting on my chair (cushioned). Faced the same irritation while coming to office by bus. The irritation starts after 15-25 minutes after passing stool. Couple of days a week when I have softer stool for some reason, I feel no irritation throughout the day. Earlier the irritation was great and unbearable, is as if someone has put glass splinters in my rectum, with a lot of throbbing pain and burning sensation ... couldn't sit at all. Now the irritation, I would say is about 20-25% of what it used to be earlier after my local homeopath's medication. In fact earlier, irrespective of the hardness/softness of the stool, the pain/irritation was unberable. Now atleast I don't feel any irritation when the stool is soft.

The problem of my stool getting retracted back has reduced considerably, if not been cured completely.

Kindly ask me more questions so that I can clarify further.

Vaskar

Sir,

I can't decipher the reason for my stool getting hard at all.

I don't have red meat for last 4 months (I was never a regular on red meat).

I have brown bread chapatis. I drink atleast 4-5 lirtres of water. I almost regularly sleep 7 hours.

i have a lot of dal. I have a lot of vegetables and fruits.

I can't understand what makes my stool hard.

Sir,

Just wanted to give you a few ques:

1) I am with the software industry ... very very stressful job ... as if i am fire-fighting 24*7 ... 5-6 hours of sedantary work.

2) I was always a bit temperamental, but since of late have grown extremely irritable.

3) I am a very nervous person and i guess many a times take undue tension and worries.

4) My wife is currently expecting our first baby and I am always worried thinking if everything's fine at her end (she's at her parents' place).

5) I exercise regularly ... atleast 3-4 days a week ... yoga / walking on treadmill / light resistance training ... alternatively.

6) I have always been suffering from some problem or the other with my health from childhood. And my stomach problems have always been a bother. But never suffered from such constipation in my life before ....

7) I am 34 yrs old.

8) I do stay with my parents ... but very unfortunately don't share a great relationship with my parents ... we are just OK. In fact I have never had good relationship with my dad (I am not sure if this has go to do anything with my health).

9) During last 5-6 months, may be due to my illness or due to change in food habit (having completely stopped junk , fatty, oily and spicy food, high protein food, no dairy, etc.) my weight has reduced by almost 11 kgs.

Pls let me know if you have any querries ...

Hi Vaskar

Let me go through this. I will come back.

When did you take the last dose of Nitric acid ?

Nitric acid was the correct medicine for you, but a better method of administration would have led to a cure faster.

Any way,let the symptoms stabilise atleast for a week.Don't take any medicnes including aurvedic.

Let all the symptoms come out. We have to give sometime to let your body give out the masked symptoms, if any.

You have to bear with it, even if it is a bit painful. We can't do a good job with homeopathy, if we hurry.

Thanks for your reply, Dr. Murthy. Well, I am being patient and I promise I can continue to be so, irrespective of the discomfort.

I had my last dose (of 4 doses) of Acid Nitric in the second week of June (can't recall the exact date though). The soreness of anus increased after the first dose and I bled a little bit after the second dose. After that, I started feeling better a day after administration of the third dose and experienced great relief for a period of about 5-6 days from the 4th dose.

Since then it's like a pendulum .... 2-3 days of soft, consistent stool (with absolutely no irritation), followed by 2-3 days of slightly harder stool (with the irritation/discomfort ... though much much lesser in intensity than before taking Acid Nitric 1M).

I have stopped taking all ayurvedic medicines, way back in early June.

I do take psyllium husk (2 spoons in the night) 2/3 times a week. Is that OK?

I am on Chelidonium Majus (7 drops in little water at befoire retiring to bed at night). Do you suggest I stop this taking this medicine as well?

Thanks,
Vaskar

Dr. Murthy,

I thought of adding a couple of points:-

1. The discomfort startes 20-25 mins after bowel movement and reduces slowly through the day. It reduces fastest if I rest/lie down for a few hours.

2. These days I feel very lethargic and tired at the same time impatient. I don't enjoy the heat at all and love colder weather.

3. Initially, prior to the treatment of my homeopath, I felt discomfort all around the inner walls of my rectum, and deep. I could feel occurance of multiple fissures all around.

Now it seems, there are couple of fissures or may be one that is troubling me on the right side of my rectum ... may be just one of them which has not got healed yet and won't get healed unless I have atleast 1 month of soft, consistent stool.

Thanks,
Vaskar

O.K.

The last dose in 2nd week of June, means a fairly resonable gap of about 6 weeks.

You can continue taking the husk. Stop taking Chelidonium.

Once you are without any medicines (husk is not a medicine), for a week, we will review the case.

For your information I am not a doctor. See my profile for more details.

However, I have handled cases like yours and am confident of handling your case too.

Let me know ,if you want to go along with me.

In which country you are located at present?

Dear Mr. Murthy,

Is lever damage (simple to advance) reversible?

Yes. Liver is a wonderful organ which has lot of resilience.

Dear Mr. Murthy,

This morning the stool was more consistent than yesterday but not very soft. I felt lesser discomfort than yesterday, hence I am having lesser irritation in the rectum today.

This goes on like a pendulum.

This is FYI.

O.K.

For the sake of record you can post the day to day variations here.

We will however wait for a week without any medicine for the symptoms to stabilise.

Dear Dr. Murthy,

I thought of bringing another recent health problem of mine to your notice. I am not sure, if it has go any relationship whatsoever with my constipation/fissures, but still I thought of mentioning the same.

Since last 4-5 days I am having dental problem. A portion of my gum (lower jaw, middle to right portion) has become sore. A portion of gum has actually come down exposing one tooth's base quite a bit. The gum is bleeding with touch from finger/brush/ food. My teeth feels very sensitive to cold/hot drink and while chewing food. In fact I could see a small white mark/patch (like some infection) on top of the gum portion that has come down.

The gum portion is sore, swollen and painful.

I have stopped using the brush and have been using paste on my finger. I have gurgled with Listerine solution in normal water last two nights.

Pls advise.

Vaskar

You need Carbo.veg 200C.

Buy the liquid potency. Mix 1 to 2 drops in about 30ml. of water and take as a dose.

You have to repeat this medicine twice a day, for three days.

Before taking the next dose, succuss the capped remedy bottle for about 5 times,by hitting it firmly against a bound book. Mix 1 to 2 drops in 30 ml. water and take it.

You have to do this succussion without fail, before taking a fresh dose.

Take a maximum of six doses and stop.No other medicines.

Make sure that there are no odors on you(perfumes etc), in the room (sprays etc), and in your mouth before taking the medicine.

Report after three days.
