Acute pain on upper arm and knee

My mother-in-law is 54 years and is a very hardworking & strong lady.She is overweight to about 72 kgs(approx).Suddenly 1 month back in the evening she complained about severe pain in her right arm which is unbearable and she was unable to move her hand.The pain was so severe that she even had fever.After visiting an orthopedic doctor,she was confirmed as having spondilosys and was advised physiotherapy for 10 days.After taking medicine & undergoing the therapy within a few days the symptoms disappeared and she was normal.
Again a few days back she complained of the same pain in her arm which was equally severe in nature and again brought fever with it.A homeopathic doctor in our neighborhood advised some medicines to her which she started taking.Simultaneously,she also saw the same orthopedic who gave some medicines and pain killers.However, the next morning she complained of a very sever pain in her left knee which was again very very severe and unbearable.It was so painful that she was almost about to cry.She was unable to walk or even move on the bed.She complained of heaviness around the knee and her knee was badly swollen almost to 3 times the normal knee.Entire night she coudnot move and it was very painful,after which she had to take pain killer.
Since the next day she is now better in terms of pain and the swollen knee has reduced a bit,but there is still a feeling of heaviness and she cannot walk normally.
X-ray report for the knee shows there is a growth of bone inside which is clashing against nerves giving rise to pain.However, this is the version of the radiologist and the doctor is yet to confirm the same.
Can anyone plz confirm a remedy and whether this is a serious disease or curable? Another thing that is cropping up in our mind is how can two separate regions have pain at a same time when the reasons for the problem are different?
