Please help me figure out my son's constitutional Page 9 of 32

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi Sameer. It's been another three nights. First night was the same as before. Second night was terrible - he woke continuously for three hours in the middle of the night and even pain relief wouldn't settle him. He eventually settled after a drink of warm milk. Last night was like other nights previously - gave pain relief on second wake up.

I wanted to mention other changes. He didn't have a bowel movement for three days, and finally had one today. It was quite unpleasant, but not like the chamomilla ones. This was preceeded by a lot of smelly gas over previous 24 hours.

His appetite has diminished over the last couple of days.

He also seems a little bit more irritable than usual (especially today) and his nose is a bit runny again.

It's funny, but after my post the other day when I said he is quite mild and yielding these days, he suddenly began entering a new phase of behaviour. He is being quite defiant and assertive with me - trying to hit me when he's not happy, chastising me (in baby gibberish) and saying no a lot. I have friends with toddlers the same age who say they are experiencing it too at the moment, so it might be just a normal developmental thing, but I thought I would mention it as it is new for him/us.

One of his left side molars is finally cutting through (as of yesterday), which could explain a few things.

These are only minor changes, but I thought I should mention them before I jump in and give him something as strong as a 1M.

Go ahead with the 1m dose.

sameervermani last decade
Ok. Will have to wait a couple of days now because it is dinner time here, and for the next two days he is in daycare all day, so there's no opportunity with an hour either side of food at home until Wednesday.

Hi Sameer, I need your advice again.

It is Tuesday night and I had planned to give the puls 1M to my son on Wednesday morning.

However, his condition is worsening and I'm starting to wonder whether it should be chamomilla I give him again.

Over the past 24 hours his runny nose is getting worse and his bowel movements are again dark in colour, loose, and foul smelling. He is irritable, off his food, and waking more frequently during the night. His cry is also sounding much more angry and demanding.

I should have added that he is cutting at least one more molar and it looks very sore, but I suspect there are more coming.

littlefinn last decade
Hi Sameer. I hope you are around soon!

littlefinn last decade
Please give him a half teaspoon dose of Chamomilla 200c.

sameervermani last decade
Hi Sameer. It's good to see you back. I was worried something had happened to you!

My son's condition has not deteriorated any further since I posted on Tuesday. He seems to swing back and forth between that state and the previous state, which is not as bad.

We have given him pain relief on several nights over the last week because he kept waking up, crying, and going back to sleep, only to repeat it 15 minutes later.

Knowing this, do you still think the 200C is appropriate or should we try for another 30C? I'm not sure I would describe his condition as acute, but I also don't know enough to know whether giving him pulsatilla at this time would actually help with the teething pain/symptoms.

Hi again. Things seem to be worsening again this afternoon, so based on previous advice, I have given him the 200C. I'll report back in a few days.

littlefinn last decade
Hi,

Actually, I have been traveling, hence the replies have been sporadic.

Keep in touch.

Sameer

I hope you are somewhere nice. :)

I'll let you know how things go.

Hi Sameer. I hadn't intended to report so soon, but things haven't exactly gone as planned, so I thought I'd better update you on the situation.

We gave the cham 200c on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday night: no change

Sunday: crusty, water eyes, with a bit of yellowy discharge, mostly on left, but a little bit on right side as well.

Sunday night: slept all night long without needing us at all - first time in weeks!

Monday: one of the carers at daycare reported that he had woken from his daynap in a good mood. Although he is back to doing this at home, he NEVER does it at daycare. He never sleeps well anywhere but home, and always wakes screaming the house down when he is there. They commented on it to us because it was unusual that he had woken and just played in his cot happily for 30 minutes. Eyes are clear again.

Monday night: Woke around midnight, very unsettled, hard to get back to sleep. We gave pain relief and he was up and down for about 1.5 hours.

Tuesday night (tonight): He woke after only being in bed for 40 minutes. Again crying very hard, very distressed cry, very unsettled in my arms, but went back to sleep in about 10 minutes. He has now woken again 2 hours later, same situation. My husband is with him as I type this, so I don't know how the rest of the night will go.

This distressed, unsettled night time behaviour is something we haven't seen for quite some time, and it worries me a lot.

There have been no other changes of note.

Do you think this is an aggravation?

littlefinn last decade
Keep waiting, things should improve by the end of this week.

sameervermani last decade
OK. Do you think it's an aggravation then? I was surprised that he seemed to react positively almost straight away and THEN things got much worse. Is that expected/normal?

littlefinn last decade
This is his body responding to the dose.

This is not an aggravation. An aggravatuion happens straight away with centesimals.

sameervermani last decade
Oh ok, gotcha. I will update you again in a few more days.

On another matter, we had a long awaited appointment with an ENT today (we'd been on a waiting list for 5 months) and he said his ears, nose and throat are all really healthy. There is no sign of scarring from the ear infections, and his drums are moving nicely - excellent news!

And thanks to you and all your help, I now feel well equipped to deal with any ear infections if they reemerge next winter.

Good to hear :)

Hi Sameer, it has been another three nights and the situation is actually worse.

There is one minor improvement, and that is that when he wakes crying, he is resettling a little quicker.

But in other ways the situation has worsened.

- He is waking more frequently during the night (last night three times, and started the day very early because he was unable to get back to sleep at 5am).
- His day sleeps are disturbed.

When he wakes he is screaming/howling in pain. He is really pulling at his ears a lot. I can see that the top two molars have only cut through fully on one side, and the other side the flesh is still quite thick. I suspect that pain is referring to his upper jaw and ears.

He is still fussy with his food. He still has a cough and runny nose occasionally through the day. His bowel movements are unpredictable - about once every two days, and differ hugely in colour and consistency.

His mood is variable, but generally good.

Would you expect the situation to improve? Or perhaps cham was the wrong remedy or isn't working?

littlefinn last decade
Let us give this 4 more days to be sure.

We will make a call at that time.

sameervermani last decade
Ok. Can I ask what your suspicions are?

One more change since I posted. He appears to have a cold, but goodness knows where he got that from at this time of year. He's very snotty.

littlefinn last decade
Another 'teething bowel movement' this morning - foul, dark, loose. First one like that in a while now. Nose still running a lot (clear) with blood inside one nostril. His spirits are good.

I wonder if he has hayfever...? It does run in the family.

littlefinn last decade
Sameer, the situation is becoming quite serious. I don't know exactly what is happening, what the cause is, or what to do.

In the last 12 hours, my son's cough has worsened to a very bad state. This cough has been going on now ever since he had the flu (around the time we gave him puls 200c) in September. It comes and goes, and the cham 30c seemed to really help it. To be honest, I thought it was a hang up from the flu as I know many toddlers have prolonged coughs. Then I thought it was a side effect of teething, which can also be common. But tonight this is the worst it's ever been. And I wonder if there is more to this situation than meets the eye.

He has been coughing virtually non stop for the past hour and a half. Very, very distressed, hysterical the whole time - probably partly because we were out earlier tonight and he is very tired. We have given him antihistamine to see if perhaps his symptoms over the past day or two have been brought on by some sort of allergy. He is also rubbing his nose and eyes as if they were itchy.

Even after everything we've been through, I feel at a loss to deal with this, and both me and my husband are very anxious and worried. Please tell us what you think might be going on, and if it is related to a remedy, or if we should seek medical advice to see if we can find out what is going on physiologically first.

littlefinn last decade
Just to update on our situation. The anti-histamine did it's job, including suppressing the coughing and he slept without any major disturbance until morning. He is now coughing again, almost constantly.

Awaiting your thoughts and advice.

I'm back. I've been talking about this with my husband, and we have come to 2 possible conclusions. I'm interested in your thoughts on this:

1. The previous homeopathic treatment (puls and cham) have done their job and now revealed a new 'layer' of complaints/illness that now needs a new remedy. Perhaps these complaints consist of some kind of environmental allergy.

2. This cough is a new manifestation of his previous chronic ear condition. It is interesting that ever since the ear infections were cured, the cough has persisted. Even though it has gone away, it keeps coming back, especially when something else is under strain/unwell. Eg, when he was teething acutely, and also when he catches a mild cold, which is perhaps what happened this time. As if his throat is his 'new' weakness now that his ears are well.

The events that led to the frightening situation last night were that he developed a snotty nose, and then we went out after dark (unusual for him) where he played at a party in the backyard for a couple of hours before we went home. He was exposed to nothing unusual that we could tell, he played on the grass, he played with a dog, and he played with a dusty old brush and pan.

The cough is really exactly the same as the cough that he was left with after the flu, back in September when we gave him puls 200C, and also the same cough that he had when his teething became very acute in late October. The cham 30C really helped with it then, but since having the cham 200C it has gotten worse and worse.

The cough sounds wet, and definitely from his throat, not his chest. He coughs in groups of 2 or 3, sometimes so violently he gags as if he were about to bring something up (but he never does). Usually the cough just comes every couple of minutes, but at its peak last night, it was constant. During that time, he was very flushed (almost splotchy) and his eyes were red. I believe that his eyes, inside his ears and inside his nose are all really itchy.

I haven't found what makes the cough better or worse yet. It seems just as freqent during the day as it does at night. Sometimes it will go away for an hour or two for no reason we can tell.

I hope this info gives you some more to go on. I'm looking forward to your valuable opinion and guidance. Thanks in advance.

I will analyze this tonight, as I just saw your posts.

I was in a long flight.

Hi Sameer. Thanks a lot for your time. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
