Pet rat with a strange problem

My pet rat (approx 1 year old) who is never afraid of the vacuum cleaner started running around his cage frantic when my husband started to vacuum on 4 days ago. He immediately stopped the vacuum and caught him in the midst of his running and he calmed down. He was breathing hard and just kind of of laid over. within about 5 mins he had recovered but still very sleepy. My husband kept him in his lap for a few hours and he just slept. He perked up and ate that night as normal ( big appetite ) The next day is seemed a bit sluggish we thought he might have wore his self out the night before. The next day when he walks he tends to stumble and lean to the side, he seems a bit lethargic and is having a bit of trouble holding food in his hands. His legs don’t seem to be working very well. What can I do for him? My vet cannot get me in till Thursday ( this is Tuesday)

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I don't profess to be an expert here but it sounds like what happened to a friend's dog who was traumatized. The trauma induced shock which led to a stroke. Everything you described, the stumbling, leaning to one side, difficulty holding food, and difficulty walking all sound like your pet rat had a stroke but only on one side of his body.

As for my friend's dog, they brought him out of it with blueberries(fresh but if you can't get fresh then unthaw whole frozen blueberries- not in any kind of syrup though and if you can't get fresh or frozen health food stores have it in tablet or capsule form) and Transfer Factor Plus. TFP is non-toxic but consider starting with about 1/32 of tsp to start(a pinch or two) and building up to 1/16 tsp or so once or twice a day(too much too quickly can make the immune system zoom up too fast). It can be sprinked on the food or mixed with a little water and given VERY CAREFULLY with an eyedropper or added to the water supply.
