The ABC Homeopathy Forum

post-op care for an animal

Hello to all.
I have a 2,5 years old pet rat with tumors, that she's going to have removed tomorrow. It will be done by a very good veterinary surgeon, who assured me the surgery will be OK, but the recovery poses a problem - there might be complications.

The rat has two subcutaneous benign tumors, one on the belly, the second one on the butt. The second tumor has grown into the muscle and in the last two days necrosis occured, accompanied by infection. The rat wasn't eating well (but was), is weak and pretty old, but has no other ailments. She was always very energetic and quick, and very friendly to other rats and humans.

The question is, how can I help her with the recovery? Any meds to speed up the healing and especially fend off infections, her body is weakened by the tumors and I'm afraid it may lose the battle.
She's getting inhalation anesthesia, meaning she will be awake right after the surgery, there will be no long waking period.

Wheatgrass. You can get it as a powder, tablets, or grow it like cat grass ( the best way for pets to take it if you can find the seeds for it). Excellent for recovery and increased vitality and health. Just excellent. It fights infections too. If powder, mix it in whatever way your pet rat takes it best. 1/4-1/2 tsp once or twice a day. Mixed in the food, or water,or mixed in some water and given with an eyedropper(very carefully. Actually, your pet rat should take to it right away and eat it without assistance needed.
It's available at any health food store.

In the immediate aftermath of a surgery, Arnica and hypericum can be given. If there's nausea from anesthesia, then nux. vom can be given. After arnica and hypericum, to heal the surgery site, calendula shall be given. 30c may be used.
