The ABC Homeopathy Forum

about my 6 1/2 -year old son:

Main Concerns: Wheezing. Below Average height-weight. Lack of strength/Stamina.

About My Son:
6 1/2 years. 43 lbs. Only boy. 2nd child of three. born normal delivery.
Most of the time joyful nature. not much temper tantrums.

When he was born Doctor said he had eczema. Cleared up. And have not experienced again.
As child used to get sore throats more often. At 2 1/2 developed severe cough after cold.
The doctor said he had wheezing. And that he had less oxygen in blood after testing.
So they gave hi oxygen and a nebulizer to take home to use for 5-7 days.

April 2007-April 2009 we were in India for schooling.
My son often developed wheezing after a cold, starting from runny nose.
In the beginning before this problem started, I would gave him bath in cold water. I did not know at that time.
And also putting fan direct on skin or keeping windows open directly near him while he slept,
or eating cold curds from frig, or icecream/juice would give him a cold and then it would turn into cold and then wheezing cough.

The pediatrician prescribed Asthalin 2 puffs daily every 4 hours.
Or when the severity was less described Asthalin as and when needed.

No steroids was given. Although the presciption was there in case of any emergency.

His wheezing meant he would develop very shallow breathing. ALso fast breathing.
His notrils would flare while breathing which he normally does not do.
He would cough often during night time while sleeping.
I would sometimes wake him up to give him Asthalin puffs at night.
Would have severe bouts of coughing after waking up.

My son had more than 4 episodes in 1 year and hence the doctor termed it as Asthama.
I still don't know what the difference is between brochitis and Asthama.

Last 4 months since we have traveled to USA to be with his father, he has not had a single episode of wheezing.
He had a runny nose once (before I came to know about homeopathY) and I gave him ester-C and zinc 5mg and the runny nose problem got solved.

My son is slightly below-average height (40th percentile) and weight is 25th percentile. Which is very much below-average.
He seems *very* small and skinny as he has a very narrow-body, and a thin neck. His ribs show. I feel quite bad when his friends 1-2 years younger
start to compare their height with his. My friend said Asthalin medicine could be responsible for low-weight. Also his US doctor said that when wheezing is not treated correctly with
steroids then a small-body is the result as the body did not get enough oxygen.

He seems healthy in other ways. Although he does get constipation (pebble-like) once in a while.
He does not drink water much, and I know when the body is
dehydrated the inflammation increases in body and hence wheezing can happen. But he takes a only few sips when I force him to drink water.

He likes to eat: chicken more often than other food. He likes lady's-finger(okra or bhindi) vegetable very much. And bread toast etc.
I make regular Indian food (roti/brown rice/dhal/beans/vegetables/vegetables). I make sure he eats lots of fruits.
I avoid most junk food/juices/fast foods/preservatives/hydrogenated fats(dalda). only once in a week I allow some sweet treats/salty snacks.
He drinks milk 2 times a day. He does not like butter and cheese, sour yougurt.

Nature:
Quiet though not timid. Shy but also able to overcome. Very sweet natured. Loving. Would get blanket/pillow for me without asking. He would share his candy to even neighbouring AUnty without anyone prompting his to do so.
He is concerned about his sisters. Always watches out for baby sister even without being told to do so.
Likes to draw pictures of super-heroes and bad-guys/aliens. Likes super-heroes. Would wear a cape and walk around. Also likes to fight he says. I put him in taekwondo martail arts for a while. He would get really tired. But expressed his interest to continue to the next class.
Also likes to swim. He never asked for anything when a toddler. Only from 5 years he wants to buy something whenever he goes out which is discouraged by us.
He wants a guitar. Likes to sing, keeps making up own songs.

He likes reading and good at it. Math he is good, but no interest as such.
Does not complete what he starts. Does not like to 'work'. Avoids work. Takes up reading whe asked to learn anything.
Developed his motor-skills kind of late. He is slow in writing. And his teacher would complain that he would lose his focus and never complete his writing.
Other than this he did not have nay problem at school.
Sometimes have problems paying attention. Loses things very regularly
Sometimes feels helpless when he is asked why he loses things often, and starts to cry that such is happening.

Very flexible during play-time. Easily gives-in to others. Cries easily - mostly I feel due to helpless feeling stemming from lack of strength/stamina.
Likes sports like football and cricket. Enjoys it. But lack of stamina after a shile he just wants to sit and play in sand alone.

Not demanding. Only sometimes he insists on somethings and when it is not met, he cries for a loong time. Does not whine.
Sensitive boy. Everybody says what a sweet boy, as he makes few demands of other people in terms of attention of any kind.
No one even knows he is there sometimes as other kids (even his sisters) take up lot of adults' attention.

Loves to watch movies. Which is again restricted at home to only friday-night movies.

Not fearful. WHen is is faced with something new he is ready to try it out without fear. LIke rock-climbing. He went all the way to top of tall wall the very first time.

Yet he is scared to be in bathroom by himself for long. This happened during last 2 months be'coz his older sister is very fearful, and it kind of like rubbed onto him. Because he would go to bathroom by himself 4 months back.
He is scared to flush toilet when noone is around.

Very Slow in eating. He never completes meal by himself. Takes a long time. Picks only a small amount with fingers each time to eat. I feed him in the end.

I gave him Mullein extract 1 ml/day for a while to build his respiratory system strength.

He does not like to wear blanket at noght. Removes his shirt. But gets cold by morning. He tosses around bed when cold. He sleeps on knees and hands under face when cold.

He grinds his teeth at night sometimes. And sometimes in the day-time too.

***My COncerns***

Q1) I am concerned he is not growing to his potential. PLease help him enhance his growth. To increase his weight.

He plays well. But cannot for a long time. He gets tired easily. And when this happens he cries.
Q2) How can I increase his strength and stamina?

Q3) Also are there any medicines (like mullein) in homeopathy to build up his lung strength?

I am particularly worried about his immune-power, as the autumn/Winter season is starting in US when he starts to go to school(Sept 10).
And given that Swine flu is making the rounds, and that it affects people with a tendency to have Asthama(or so I have read),
I want him to have a good immunity.

Q4-8)
WHat should I give him if he develops a runny nose symptoms next time?
What should I give him for sore throat ( he gets this often)?
What should I give him for fever?
What should I give him for productive cough?
ALso for dry-cough?

Q9)
How do I prevent wheezing when he gets a cold?

Q10) Is his teeth-grinding a symptom of something? What should I do for this?

I just want to make sure I have all the medicines before-hand as it takes 3-5 days for products to arrive after I order them online.
WHich sometimes feels forever when the child is sick! Ans also sometimes the remedies have to be given with the first observation of symptoms.

I appreciate anyone reading this lengthy post and addressing my concerns.

Thank You for your patience!

God Bless,
M.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
One other thing I forgot to mention for whole of the last week he kept saying his chest hurt pointing right below his ribcage at the center where his diaphragm is, and says that it hurts more after eating food. He has not mentioned it today. This has happened before also.

He also sometimes complains of headache mainly forehead at the same time.

What is the pain near the diaphragm a symptom of?

Thank You,
God Bless.

Hi,

Carb-v is not his remedy. If you can wait, for a day or 2, I will analyze this in detail, and get back to you.

And, we never give remedies like this, 7 doses of unchanged potency.

Once the body has started to respond to a potency all further doses are useless and can be harmful.

Dr. Sameer,

Yes I will wait for you to get back to me on this.

Hi M,

Please answer the following:

1) Can we say his overall temperament is very mild and yielding ?

2) So in general, we can say that he is aggravated by cold weather, cold food and cold drinks ?

3) How is his confidence level ?

Sameer

sameervermani last decade
Dr Sameer,

Can we say his overall temperament is very mild and yielding ?

Yes, overall. There are times when he yells at his li'l sister who is very naughty and makes it a point to bother him when he is in playing by himself with some toys/action figures etc, and when he seems very focused on what he is doing.

Recently he even pinched her because she bothered him, and that was a surprise to me.

Most of the time when she goes and hurts him, he prefers to cry and complain to me rather than hit her back. He almost never raises his hand against her.

2) So in general, we can say that he is aggravated by cold weather, cold food and cold drinks ?

Yes.
We recently(Aug 7) went camping, and I thought that the smoke from the camp fire or dust inside the tent would cause some problem. But he did not seem to react to it. But he also had popsicle as it was a hot day, and that did not create any problem. Maybe his immunity has improved after coming to US as I make sure he eats a lot of berries and other fruits.

3) How is his confidence level ?

His confidence level I think has been good. I have not seen him not want to try something new because he is scared(rock-climbing, boating the first time, etc).
Yet on the other hand, sometimes it gets shaky during physical fights( friendly or not) with peers as he is not as strong. He gets frustrated(losing confidence in himself?) with his losing things by not paying attention and had a crying spell with 'I keep losing things' .

I remember in India he would come home often saying some boy kicked/punched him etc at school. I think he would cry rather than fight back. He would come home and cry about it too. I had advised him to tell his teacher.

More info that may help:
He sometimes gets very adamant about buying some new toy(frisbee/fishing pole, skate board etc) but after it is bought for him then he loses interest in it after a few attempts to use it. His interest maybe is in possessing than in wanting to learn.

Notes:
Sept 2nd: He went to bed complaining of aching legs(both. all over from thighs to feet). He was kind of moaning a little before going to sleep. We did not go for too long a walk, or he did not play for too long either. So I was kind of puzzled by this. He said he did not have the diaphragm pain, when asked.

He also has been asking me for sweets a couple of times this week which is unusual. Today also he had a slice of bread with jam and banana slices after dinner. Usually if he does not eat dinner properly he asks for milk.

Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks Dr. Sameer.
God Bless.
M.

Okay, good.. so please follow this prescription to the letter..you can buy this remedy at health food stores like whole foods...

Three doses of SILICEA 30c to be taken for ONE single day ONLY as described below.

Dissolve 2 pellets of Sil 30c in a 250 ml spring water bottle. If leave the pellets in water for 20 mins, they will melt. You can shake it gently after they have dissolved.

Take a teaspoon from this bottle using a disposable spoon 3 times, spaced by 30 minutes. This is to be done for one day ONLY. From next day, no more doses.

Let me know in 10 days after these 3 doses.

Restrictions:

1/. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.
2/. Do not touch the tablets with your hands, tip them into the cap of the container they came in and then into the water .
3/. Avoid coffee, tea (including green), and other sources of caffeine such as some fizzy drinks and large amounts of chocolate, except where this would cause a drastic change in consumption
4/. Avoid wearing perfume/aftershave, or exposure to anything with a strong smell on the day and 3 days following the remedy administration. This includes any and all essential oils, and incense.
5/. Avoid the consumption of excessively spicey foods
6/. The use of medicinal herbs, either as 'teas' or supplements should be avoided during Homoeopathic treatment, as should the use of over the counter medication, unless this has been recommended by an MD.
7/. Nothing of a medicinal nature should be applied to the skin

Dr. Sameer,

I have not yet had a chance to give my son this remedy.
I have the medicine with me now but my son had developed a runny nose and cough after a dip in the cold pool at a camping site.

I gave him ferrous phos 6x just after this and it helped take care of the cold and sore throat.

But not he has developed a cough that is dry and says his throat itches that is why he coughs. Also he says his chest hurts when he coughs.

I do not notice any wheezing yet. He does not have a runny nose or a nasal congestion.

I am not sure what to do. Can I give him silicea 30 now? Or should I wait until his cough symptom subsides? What should I do if the cough gets worse, or turns into wheezing?

Thanks for your help.

Also, it was his first day of school today and he thought it was fun. But he said he was slow in completing his work and all other kids were onto new things before he could finish.

He did not feel like going to nearby park later. He also whined that his li'l sister was asking him to do too much work when she asked his help to shut off the tap.
His explains he is feeling weak since yesterday.

Other wise he seems okay to play his video game.

Just to make sure I cover all symptoms.'

Thank You,
M.

You can proceed with Silicea.

sameervermani last decade
Dr. Sameer, Greetings!

I gave my son the Silicea 30 dose as you mentioned on the 11th of Sept.

There was a definite change in that he seemed more active than before. He was like a toy whose old batteries got replaced =:0
- just running around and climbing on everything etc.

Yesterday on 14th, he came home and said he felt very weak. And he cried that he could not play during recess time at school as his 'bones' felt weak (his words), and he felt his whole body was hurting. He said after he ate food at school his felt like there was a lump in his throat 'like a golf ball' and his head hurt too (forehead) as well as his chest after eating. He said the same during dinner time that his chest hurt. In bed at night he again cried (sobbing away) as we had missed going to the park, and said he wanted to go to the park everyday as he wants to get stronger. Again he mentioned feeling weak and not able to do anything. It is quite heart breaking that he has the interest to play but not able to do so.

Otherwise he seems ok..

What should I do now Dr. Sameer?

Thanks for all your help.
God Bless!

Hi mimo,

The remedy is working, please let his body respond.

Do nothing, just wait for 10 more days and then update me.

sameervermani last decade
Hi Dr.Sameer,

I am writing as it has been 10 days since I gave my son the medicine, and also after the initial high energy display his behavior has been back to his earlier behavior. He was complaining of weakness at school only yesterday, today he seems like he played at school.
SO there does not seem to be a major change.

What should I do at this time?

Thanks for your time.
God Bless.

Dr. Sameer,

Phosphorus has many symptoms that my son is exhibiting which I have inadvertantly left out:

1) My son had been saying he is hungry even right after I gave him a snack or a meal.
2) His eyes seem to get red in the evening - night. Sometimes he rubs it as well. But even without ruing I have noticed it being red when he gets sleepy.
I have never seen such red eyes in my other two children.

He also sometimes complains that one of his eye is burning and then keeps it closed for a while. It gets better by itself.

Even when he was a child he would rub his eyes a lot before going to sleep.
3) He does ask to eat icecream sometimes even after telling him it might cause a cold.

4) He seems to have a slight forward curvature of the spine, which makes him look like he is sticking out his tummy forward with chest slightly back. I keep reminding him to stand straight at times. His father also has the same kind of spine, as well as my sister in law.

And many other symptoms made me feel like this is a brilliantly thought out remedy (since I had omitted so many symptoms)!

Thank You, Dr. Sameer, I will let you know as soon as I give him the Phosphorus dosage as you mentioned.

I need to order the medicine from the online store which will cost me the shipping cost each time. So are there any medicine that I need to keep at hand that I could order right now?

Thanks Again!
And God Bless!

You can buy this remedy from Whole foods.

If you order online, you can order Phos 200c as well.

I am ordering online, and I came across 2 dram /1 ounce / 2 ounce to select from against the Pellets 30C. Which should I choose, Dr.? Same for 200C pellets.

Thank You.

Should I select 2 dram /1 ounce / 2 ounce for the pellets?

Smallest size.

sameervermani last decade
Dr, Sameer,

Sorry about the delay!

I gave my son the recommended dosage of Phos 30C on October 7.
Observations made after that:

- Complaints about chest pains almost NIL.
-Complaints about feeling weak almost NIL
- Sensitivity to other's(friends'/sisters'/mine) comments increased.
- More weepiness in the evening on a REGULAR basis.
- Eyes NOT red during nighttime before bed.
- Slightly better concentration during studies.

Today: October 23:
Started complaining of chest pain.
I also noticed slightly red eyes yesterday and today.
Also he did not seem his usual 'happy' self after school, even while playing his favorite Wii game at home.

He sits around and plays with sand in the playground most of the times than run around.

Dr. Sameer what is the nest step?

Thanks' for your kind attention!

God Bless!

And Dr. Sameer,
I forgot to mention, my son had a whole cup of frozen flavored ice yesterday (oct 22), and just when he was having it fog rolled in. After this he also developed a cold and a cough which has subsided now. I don't know if this was the cause of the chest pain he is feeling today.

Thanks.

Hi mimo,

You can give him a single dose of Phosphorus 200c, by dissolving 2 pellets in 250 ml spring water, and giving a teaspoon from there ONCE.

Report after 2 weeks.
