Eye sight....

This is concerning my son. I have made a thread concerning his eczema once before but this is not concerning his eczema.
I am wondering about his reading. He does really well in school. He is a very well mannered kid and a good listener, he sits nicely when being taught. He does well in computer, gym, sience, math and is an excellent speller. He has a problem with reading. He is not at the level that he should be and I am concerned about it. I believe that he is a good reader because he an spell words so well.
His problems:
He has a problem with W words: why, what, where, when.
Yesterday while reading with him I noticed that he was replacing the W with a T and reading that, there, then, instead of what, where, when.
I asked him this morning if he was seeing blury and he said no, I even tested him by asking to read a couple of words for me from differnt distences away - he was getting it right.
He gets easily stressed out and does not like to sound out words, he rather wants me to tell them what the word is right away. If I hold out and ask him to sound out the letters he is frustrated and seems to shut down. After that he will make mistakes even with little words that he has known for years.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Have him checked for a learning disability. There are so many kinds that can be diagnosed now. This also causes the child to refuse to try to "figure" it out and want you to help too soon.

When something like this is known, the correction is taught and the child has tools to replace the confusion that stopped him before.

He needs to be assured that this is common and when he has his "way" to understand, it is the solution and no longer a problem.

An eye examination can tell you if there is anything amiss behind the eye physically. So this will rule out glasses or a growth, etc.

Had a couple of problems like this and found a way to deal with them .
Part of the problem is the position of the letter in the alphabet .

Write the letters of the alphabet on the edge of a circular piece of cardboard .
With no distinction as to where the alphabet starts . Then run him through the alphabet starting from differing points all the time . Stop when he gets fed up.

Passkey, I will try it. But he knows all of his letters. He is 7 years old and very smart. He is an excellent speller, top in his class. Why would he be replacing w with t?

Some adults cannot tell their right from their left...Why?

Some well known doctors, well respected, never learned to read...Why? (and "how?")

He may be looking for attention...Why?

There is no answer for "why."

This is when you ask a small child "why" he did something, he sees so many answers in his head, he replies, "I don't know."
