hi
i wanted to know if thers any permanent cure for hereditary hair loss? im 22 yrs old. my hair started falling when i was around 14. i havent had severe hair loss, just disperse hair loss and thinning hair. no bald patches. i went to a hair specialist and they said that it was due to the lack of iron and also that it was genetic, but only slight. im taking ferrous sulphate 200mg a day. and for the hair loss im using MINOXIDIL 5%. but its too costly for me. is ther anything else that i can use from which i can permamnenetly recover from this problem. your response will be greatly appreciated.
thnx

thanks passkey..:)

ok - to start with ferrous gluconate is heaps better than ferrous sulphate.
arnica has been known to help hair loss.

erika last decade
thnx alot! but ive been told that thers no permanent cure to hereditary hair loss and the only effective remedy is minoxidil which im using. once i stop using that my hair will go back to the same as it was. will arnica permanently cure my hair loss eventhough it is genetic? pls do let me know

No-one knows as this is so individual. It obviously hasn't helped everyone who took it or the pharmacies would be selling it now at great cost and making a fortune?!! But try it and see, it will not harm!
By the way bald is also beautiful!

erika last decade
thnx, but its not for me

Isma1 last decade
do you mean baldness is not for you or the arnica? :)

erika last decade
baldness...definitely not! and arnica..im not sure, dsnt seem like it will be very effective for hereditary hair loss

Isma1 last decade
that's possibly true - altho arnica is a general good skin and soft tissue healer an could definitely do no harm while we tried to suss out whether another remedy might help. there would be no promises as hair loss is a tricky one if hereditary - BUT let us know a lot more about yourself, your personality, your food preferences, weather preferences, other skin problems and particularly your other family medical history (parents, siblings, grandparents) and we'll see if we can help. :)

hi erkia
thnx alot for ur prompt responses! im glad that some1 on this forum is trying to help me. well ,my hair loss all started when i was 14(22 now).my hair was very thin and used to fall, but i never had any bald patches. last year i went to belgravia centre in london, and the said i had a genetic tendency of DISPERSE HAIR LOSS, but that it was only mild. they prescribed MINOXIDIL 5%. i have been using that since last yr. my hair has totally stopped falling and is in a very good consition. my head seems fuller with hair than it did before. but ive been told as soon as i stop this medicine my hair will revert back to how it was.
with regards to family history, none of my siblings have this problem and neither do my parents. my dad's sister, has it and her's is quite severe.
In addition i dont have any ilnesses except the fact that i suffer from mild acne. i have oily skin and oily scalp.
food prefernces, i mainly eat asian food(chappati etc), and also italian, thai and chinese food. although i dont eat much meat. but i compensate for that by taking ferrous sulphate tablets. i have been told that i do have iron defficiency, so i am taking the iron tablets regularly for that.
weather prefernces wise, i like mild waeather, spring is the best season, although im not too fussy about it.
Pls do let me know if i have missed anything out. I'll be happy to giv u further details.
Thnx,
Isma

sorry, i totally missed out the bit about describing my personality. im a friendly person. serious nature but also have alot of humour in me.one thing though i do get angry quite quickly. that i admit is one negative point about my personality.im also veryyyy lazy. i take my time to do things unless im pushed.i think thats about it really...its not easy describing urself!:)

Hi Isma - are you a chilly person or generally quite warm? do you suffer from headaches?
what are your hobbies - indoor or outdoor? books or windsurfing? mountain climbing? study?
where is your acne usually?

also with reference to the iron - you do not have to eat a lot of meat to help this, there are plenty of vegetarian sources.
does the iron supplement help the iron deficiency - do you ever get it retested?
spk soon :)

hi erika
i am generally quite warm. i dont suffer from any headaches. hobbies wise, i dont have any specific hobbies. like watching films, and trying new recipes. i dont do any indoor out door sports. i stopped that a long time ago. used to do it alot in school. after that havent had the time, or u could say havent bothered. study wise, iim an average student studying final yr LLB law. i tend to leave things to the last minute as i mentioned before that i am lazy! with regards to iron, yes it does help but as soon as i stop taking it my iron count goes low again. i got my iron level checked around to mnths ago. he iron count was 5. the nurse told me that that was quite low and that i had to take 200mg of ferrous sulphate twice a day. ive been taking that now since 2 mnths and will get my blood retested maybe end of nxt mnth. i do eat vegetables, but dont eat green vegetables much. my acne is on mainly on my cheeks and jaw lines. i hardly get many spots on my chin or forehead. and if i do get the occasional spot on my forehead it dsnt seem to leave any mark, which is quite strange cos my cheeks and jaw line are full of red marks. Thnx once again Erika.

5 is ver low for iron count and I am very glad that you have regular checks for this. In addition to what might be suggested here you should look to your diet and add in more iron rich foods. Also consider supplements in Vit. C, zinc and selenium (and/or foods rich in these). It might be worth getting a hair sample tested to see what minerals/vitamins you may be lacking. Again, if you take an iron supplement, ferrous gluconate is better than sulphate (this can also be prescribed by GP) - it is nearer to natural iron and does not cause constipation or headaches like the sulphate and is also absorbed better (taken with Vit C it is absorbed a lot better also).

To the homeopathy - have you got history of TB or typhoid in the family or have you had vaccines for these diseases? What vaccines or illnesses, or emotional stress did you have when you were 14?Can you tell me other family medical history for close family? As this seems genetic it needs also to be addressed so with homeopathy.

erika last decade
is there any supplement in which i can get vitamin c, zinc and selenium together? my mum has had typhoid once in the past and my cousin from my dad's side. other than that arthritis and heart attack, are one of the ilnesses that run in my close family. when i was 14, i did go through emotional stress with regards to school. i had just come to uk then and was finding it very difficult to adjust in school, due to the difference in the culture. also i was getting bullied in school due to which i used to hate going to school. but i didnt suffer from any illnesses as such during that age. i had a minor surgery done to remove a tooth that was growing inside my gum. i have had vaccines that usually every1 has at the age of 13/14 and during the early yrs of being a toddler, but i cant really remember what they were, sorry. i hope that wont affect ur analysis greatly.

Isma1 last decade
yes you can get selenium, zinc and c all in one. Pharma Nord make one called Bio-Selenium + Zinc (in UK this can be found in health stores) and I'm sure there are some from other companies.
I have a suggestion for homeopathic help - BUT I can only find Minoxidil in the ref books as used for severely high blood pressure - do you have this??, in which case my homeopathic advice would be quite different as regards how to take the remedy/potency etc.....pls let me know if you have blood pressure problems before I suggest homeopathic..:)

erika last decade
thnx alot erika!
no i dont have high blood pressure at all. as far as i know minoxidil is only used for hair loss. its in a liquid which u put on ur scalp via a syringe(without the needle:)) if u want to find out more about it, just type minoxidil into google or u can go on www.belgraviacentre.com. they prescribed it to me. any more questions, pls feel free to ask.
Kind Regards
Isma

sorry erika, u were right. i found this:-
Minoxidil was first used in tablet form as a medicine to treat high blood pressure, but it was noticed that some patients being treated with minoxidil, experienced excessive hair growth (hypertrichosis) as a side-effect. Further research showed that by applying minoxidil in solution form directly to the scalp, it could prove to be beneficial to those experiencing topical hair thinning.

Ok - thanks isma. I'll look on that website...I thought you were taking it orally so it would have made a difference to the homeopathy!
Even putting it on your scalp may mean however that you will not know if the homeopathy is working or not, so , if you can bear to stop this while on homeopathy I would suggest you take:
Thyroidinum 1M - take just one dose of 3 tablets/pillules on one day - this would mean 1 tablet morning, one around noon and one in the evening for one day only. You would have to wait several weeks to see if it changed anything and probably take another dose a while later before you began to see changes - so the changes may not happen for a couple of months or more.

If you do not want to stop taking the scalp preparation you could take the thyroidinum more frequently in a lower potency - but really you still would not know if it were having an effect or whether it were still the minoxidil! So it would be a very frustrating thing for you and for homeopathy.
Let me know what you decide!
Oh, also - did you ever have your thyroid levels checked?
erika

erika last decade
i did get my thyroid level checked last yr and i was told that it was ok, but i can get it rechecked again. is this thyroidinium, for low thyroid level? and supose if my thyroid levels are ok, then what would you recommend? i still have 1 bottle of minoxidil left which will finish by august and after that i would like to try homeopathic medicine. will i get permanent results with homeopathic medicine?

Isma1 last decade
Homeopathic thyroidinum is indicated for a lot of the symptoms that you have - this does not mean that it treats low or high thyroid, and it does not necessarily mean that you have a thyroid problem, but it will help to balance the thyroid if there is a problem.
I always suggest a thyroid test if this remedy is indicated, just in case there is a problem that hasn't been detected.

If you do not take the homeopathic remedy suggested now then you will need to get another suggestion in a few months time - as your symptoms may change and indicate another remedy, especially if you have used the minoxidil for a longer time as this could have a subtle effect on your system. It may be that the remedy suggested may still then be thyroidinum but it could be another. With homeopathy the symptoms are assessed in the 'now' and not for the 'future' - so please do not just take the suggested thyroidinum in a few months time without coming back here and seeing if the symptoms still fit, or seeing a homeopath in your home town.
I honestly don't know whether homeopathy will give permanent results - homeopathic medicine is an energy medicine, it helps the body's vital force t help itself heal itself.

Other thought - a lot of UK homeopaths run low cost clinics if you cannot go to normal priced clinics. This may be a good option for you as you would be able to talk things through very thoroughly....

erika last decade
thanks erika
but i cant afford anything nat the moment, so u think i shuld try thyrodinium, is ther anyu other remedy that you can recommend and also, i know i have askd this 1 b4 but if my htyroid levels r ok, which i think they are, then do i still use thyrodinium?

Isma1 last decade
thyroidinum is the remedy I think suits at the moment - but another homeopath may see it differently or have other recommendation, so maybe you can wait to see if any more suggestions are offered. If your thyroid levels are ok that's good news for you and it's still fine to take thyroidinum...
