The ABC Homeopathy Forum

for Dr. Kadwa - low thyroid/frozen shoulder

Hi Dr. Kadwa,
As you requested I am starting a new thread for myself - Here is the one from my son where I got your advice to take the Nux v. : http://www.abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/267904. I have filled out the questionnaire you sent also. Under point 2 I have put any changes in the symptoms to my low thyroid after taking the recommended doses of Nux Vomica 200C.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help me.
Sincerely,
Jean Ann

Rishimba has designed a very good Questionnaire (Set of Questions) for case taking. He designed this long back. i have been using these questions whenever i think that full case taking is needed.

These questions are designed to get the following information from the patient
1. Mental State of the patient
2. Physical Ailments
3. The likely cause for above problems
4. The modalities like whether the patient feels well or worse in hot weather, cold weather etc., he is relieved by / worsenened by hot applications, cold applications etc.

i also thank Rishimba for designing such wonderful tool for case taking. i can also understand the hard work that he has done for desiging these questions.

Patients can use this questionnaire for submitting their cases. The effectiveness of remedy selection is directly proportional to the details provided by the patient while replying these questions.

Patient ID: Sex: F Age: 61

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experiences and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering? At the present it is a frozen shoulder, right side. Started approximately Dec. 1, 2010. While stretching it my grandson tripped and fell on it which seemed to make the pain worse. Have tried massage, chiropractic, steroid shot, ultrasound, and electrical stim. I went to an orthopedic doctor who ruled out a torn rotator cuff. He said it was a frozen shoulder. He said it comes in 3 stages - freezing, frozen, and thawing. I am still in the freezing stage.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body? Symptoms of hypothyroid and symptoms of adrenal fatigue and possible pre-diabetes.

• Dry skin and hair
• Hair thinning/hair loss
• Depression
• Fatigue - Seemed better after the nux v. but these last several days the fatigue has become very bad due to a heavy work load. I could almost fall asleep standing up.
• Foggy brain
• Loss of memory - slight
• Difficulty concentrating
• Intolerance to cold - this is the main difference that I noticed. My hands and feet are not cold at all. I'm actually having to throw off the big blanket at night.
• Low body temperature
• Poor circulation/ cold hands and feet
• Muscle cramps with no exertion
• Weight gain and difficulty losing it
• Constipation - I am more regular now
• Gallbladder discomfort - I have not noticed any pain on my right side.
• Chronic digestive problems such as low stomach acid

Symptoms of Hashimoto's
• Heart palpations - I have not had any heart palpations. I usually would have these when I would lie down and take a deep breath.
• Anxiety, nervousness
• Insomnia - This has actually gotten quite a bit worse. For instance last night I woke up after 3 hours (I had taken a melatonin before bed) and stayed awake for several hours, even after taking coffee cruda when I couldn’t get back to sleep, and slept fitfully the rest of the night.
• Muscle and joint pain

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings? I have periods of depression especially in the evening. The pain from my shoulder seems to wear on me by the end of the day. I am one of the primary caregivers for my special needs grandson (3 1/2 yrs old.)

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? I feel extreme fatigue where it is just a chore to get ready for bed. I get depressed just knowing that all the work starts again in the morning. But in the morning I feel recharged and ready to go - no depression.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease? I realized some time ago that I could trace it all back to when I had mononucleosis when I was 19 years old. I was hospitalized for this. After I recovered I started getting migraines and extreme fatigue, cold hands and feet. I went to the doctor almost yearly to get a thyroid test but it always came back negative. Every thyroid test since has always come by fine. Also around 25 years ago I was diagnosed with systemic candida throughout my whole body. It took a long while to get this cleared up and a lot of the fatigue cleared up. I had to change my eating habits and tried to avoid sugar as much as possible. I also developed shingles in 2005 along the ulnar nerve in my left arm.

6. Which time of the day you are worst? Evenings

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Fatigue - Worse when I don't get enough rest. I feel better after taking a nap. Shoulder - Worse after I exercise it and sleeping makes it worse because I can't find a position where it doesn't hurt. Better when I apply a heat pad ( although the doctor said I should use ice).

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)? It seems that the cold rainy days seems to make the fatigue worse. Sitting for too long seems to make my shoulder worse.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather? I definitely like the warm/hot dry weather the best. Cold windy weather especially when I'm out in it will trigger a migraine if it hits my forehead for 20-30 minutes.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc. It seems that I portray happy on the outside but inwardly depressed. If I tell someone I'm depressed that they always say I seem so happy all the time. I have to be doing something all the time or I get depressed. The depression is for no known reason, it's just there. I don't argue. I keep things to myself until I can calmly and logically talk about it. I don't like change that is spontaneous. If I have time to accept it I am ok. I get nervous about not being prepared for emergencies. I like to plan for different scenarios - then I am more relaxed. I have started bach remedies which has seemed to help some.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm? I don't seem to feel different with thunderstorms. I actually like them.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times? No, I like being left alone. I know it will be better in the morning.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc? I have quite a few sensitivities especially to chemicals: synthetic fragrances (candles, air fresheners) trigger migraines; various chemicals to clean, wash clothing with, bathe, shampoo, makeup etc will leave dry scaly patches on my skin. Strobing lights trigger migraines. When I'm having a migraine loud sounds and light make it worse.

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless weeping, talking to one self etc? I pick my cuticles, shake my foot when I sitting and am nervous. I don't cry easily. I do talk to myself - usually to tell myself to shape up and how blessed I am.

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife? My family is my life. I've been very happily married for 41 years. We have 3 grown sons. The oldest, his wife, and child live with us now so I can help with my grandson's care. He was born with several health issues. I don't demand a lot of attention from my kids but love seeing them whenever I can.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly? I’m not a fearful person. The dreams I have had lately seem all about being overwhelmed - so much work to do, no one helping me, can’t get everything done.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions? I crave meats and fatty food. I feel better after eating a meal that has more meat and less carbs. I used to crave sweets - magnesium has helped with this. When I’m really tired I still do crave sweets though. Aversions - tomatoes, onions, broccoli, kale, lima beans, peppers, cucumbers

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive? Less. I have to remind myself to drink more water. I don't drink sodas - only water, 2 cups coffee, occasionally raw milk and kefir.

14. How if your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive? Normal. I can skip a meal and not worry about it.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand? Peppers and cucumbers really make me belch.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs? I rarely sweat but when I do it's more my head.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type? Mostly I'm constipated unless I take adequate Vit. C and magnesium. They are rather hard and not stinky.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping? Until my shoulder problem I slept well. I wake once a night to use the bathroom. I take a melatonin before bed. I sleep on my side usually but now that my shoulder is hurting so much I try also sleeping on my back but then my arms go to sleep. The last several nights I have slept very poorly getting only around 3-4 hours of sound sleep.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general? Yes.

20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all? I like being by myself and don't like going to parties. I don't have a lot of typical 'fun' things I do. My interests are more like bird watching or researching natural means of health care.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication? I haven't taken any medication for thyroid or my shoulder. I have taken adrenal supplements. I'm almost afraid to take medications because of all the side effects so I search for alternative solutions. Instead of medications I try and find supplements. I drink apple cider vinegar tea, have painted on iodine on my feet 3 x week, bach remedies, various homeopathic remedies.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
Mental problems are the most prevalent - bipolar, depression, suicide tries. Father had a heart attack. He was treated for low thyroid, Mom had a light stroke.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance. I'm 5'4', 135 lbs., olive skin when a young person but not so much anymore. I have partly grey hair, wear glasses for both near and far.

24. (ONLY FOR FEMALES)

If you are not having normal menstrual cycles, please answer the following questions: I had a hysterectomy 14 years ago.

- Are the periods early, regular or late in general? How long do they last?
- Do you suffer from any kind of physical or mental discomfort before, during or after the periods?
- Is the flow scanty, normal or excessive?
- Is the blood thick bright red or pale watery?
- Do you notice any clots in the flow?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please take three doses of Calcarea Carb 200 as follows and report back after 15 days.

day 1 morning
1st dose

day 1 evening
2nd dose

day 2 morning
3rd dose

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 4 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 3-4 drops in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

You may also take Arnica 30 in the morning and Rhus Tox 30 at night for 3 days every week for few weeks and see whether it helps your shoulder.

You should start Arnica Rhus after a gap of 7 days of taking Calcarea Carb 200.

Hello Dr. Kadwa,

I am late getting back with you. My husband had to have emergency heart surgery. Until this happened I had followed you prescription. Here are some things I noticed:

* The heart palpitations - illregular heart beat seemed to normalize. I did not feel any fluctuations when I would lie down.

* I also was not extremely fatigued. Still very tired but not the go to sleep standing up tired like I was.

* My hands and feet were not cold all the time like before.

But after I started on the Calcarea Carb I did notice my heart rate increased to the mid 80's but my blood pressure remained low, sometimes in the 80's over 50-60.

In the middle of this 15 day period of taking the Calcarea Carb is when my husband had to have his surgery. My body became extremely erratic - shaking, very irregular heart beat, dizzy, hard to breath. I stayed with him at the hospital the whole time he was there so I got very little sleep day or night. These symptoms continued for the whole week we were there. Once home I took the Nux V. to see if that would help (3 doses like the first). I noticed the heart beat started to stabilize although the heart rate was still high. I am still extremely fatigued no matter how much sleep I get at night. (I'm only getting up once or twice at the present to assist my husband, and I have no trouble falling back to sleep.)

The pain in my arm is not there unless I sleep on it the wrong way. The orthopedic doctor I went to said I am now in the 'frozen' stage. I will start physical therapy in the next couple of weeks for this.

So at the present I guess my main concern would be the fast heart rate and the fatigue.

Thank you so much for your advice.

Jean Ann

Please take a single dose of Calcarea Carb 200 and see how that affects in next one week.

Hi Dr. Kadwa,
It has been one week since I took one dose of Calcarea Carb. I have noticed that my heart rate is slower and not erratic and I don't hear it in my ear when I lie down to sleep. :) I am still very fatigued though. I have also started using my adrenal support supplements again. I took these a year ago with good results for the fatigue.

I am not sleeping very well probably due to my husband still not sleeping soundly because of his surgery. I'm sure this has a lot to do with my fatigue. Some days all I want to do is go to sleep. I am one of the primary caregivers for my grandson who has special needs so I do have a lot of demands. I am able to take a one hour nap during the day while he naps.

Thank you for helping me through the problems. I can see a lot of progress. Now all I have left is the fatigue.

Sincerely,
Jean Ann

Please take Kali Phos 30 in the morning and evening for 3 days and see how that affects in a week.

kadwa last decade
Dr. Kadwa, I took the Kali Phos as directed. It did help. Although I was tired it wasn't as intense as previously. I didn't start feeling the all consuming fatigue again until the past few days.

Also I noticed that my heart was throbbing hard only a couple of times and the irregular beat only once.

Should I use the Calcarea Carb and the Kali Phos on an ongoing schedule?

Thank you for you advice.
Jean Ann

Yes. You may use Calc Carb and Kali Phos for your symptoms when there is a significant relapse.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Hi Dr. Kadwa,
I had a question about taking the Kali Phos for fatigue. Do I need to take it every day until I start having more energy or just a few days a week.

Thank you,
Jean Ann

If the remedy works for you, you should feel better within few days of taking kali phos as suggested above. If you don't feel better we need to review the case.

Hi Dr. Kadwa,
I have been taking Kali Phos for a couple of days and I do feel better. Should I stop taking it now? Do I just take it a few days at a time if the fatigue gets worse?

Thank you.
Jean Ann

You should stop taking it now. You should take it for few days every time your fatigue gets worse.
