The ABC Homeopathy Forum

4 month old with reflux

I have a four month old daughter whose behavior has slowly and dramatically changed over the last month 1/2. She had symptoms of teething and after seeing a naturopath we received remedies that seemed to reduce the drooling and irritability including a low potency teething tonic (dont' know what it is), white willow (we cook off the alcohol because she was vomiting up every bottle) and an overall remedy for her that I'm not sure what it is.

No teeth have come in and new symptoms have started.

She has an aversion to eating. She is hardly eating at all. She is taking in about 15 oz of formula. She screams and arches her back. She won't eat when she should definitely at least be thirsty. She cries even before reluctantly taking the bottle. Just being put in the feeding position would illicit crying. This is very unlike her mellow and smiley personality. She is not a colicky baby. She sleeps through the night and has done so for a long time. Will not nap during the day unless she is upright.

She is 15lbs+ and 26" tall. She was always a great eater but always spit up. I was told she would grow out of it. She continues to spit up and it seems worse now. Occasionally she vomits. We have to drape ourselves and her at every feeding and use bibs afterward for all the spit up that comes much later.

She has been formula fed since birth starting with Enfamil Lipil and then switched to Nutramigen in hopes that her gassiness/spitups would subside but mainly that I was told it's better than regular formula if one could not breastfeed.

I could not breastfeed because I am ill with chronic Lyme Disease and could pass it to her. I used antibiotics to prevent transmission during my pregnancy. I had a natural childbirth with no medications involved. She is not vaccinated. She has cradle cap on her forehead that flares. Head is clear now. A remedy for that would be great. Daily shampooing has helped but its still quite itchy for her when it flares.

I cannot really afford another consultation with the naturopath as he has suggested. I'm hoping I can be steered toward a reflux remedy to try.

I have tonics from the naturopath... do remedies come in liquid forms I can put in her bottles or do I make them from the tablets?

Thanks for any info.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
if the formula is made from cows milk then it is worth checking whether she may have a dairy intolerance.

The Nutramigen formula was supposed to address that issue.

Since I posted, we have gone back to the old Enfamil Lipil and she is eating! The suggestion is that she was on the regular formula for so long that she refuses to accept the taste of the new formula. However her skin already seems worse (cradle cap on forehead that's she's had since birth).

I'm at a loss. A baby that won't eat (after five weeks!) is worse than a baby with dairy intolerance symptoms. You should see her today so happy after a full belly of food. A changed baby.

Is there something I can give her to lessen the affects of the formula on her system. She is now on a low potency teething tonic (don't know what it is) and white willow in every bottle for pain and immunity.

I'm in the process of ordering a book on homeopathy for infants and children to learn more and a general book. Any info you can give me now will help. Thanks!

is the cradle cap the only symptom from dairy intolerance? Or are there other symptoms?
If it is then the cradle cap can sometimes be due to the shampoo?

I am a bit bothered about the white willow she is taking although you get rid of the alcohol. The reason is that I was taught not to give herbal remedies to children under 2.

I recently had a patient - a baby with reflux and it was cured by changing to a soy milk formula

Thanks for the info. It seems that she is doing fine on the old formula now.

I've tried different shampoos (always most natural but now use Aveeno baby wash/shampoo and I've tried no shampoo at all and the cradle cap on her scalp is gone (by physically but gently scraping off the flakes) but the extended cradle cap on her forehead and eye continues to flare at times. It's worse when I don't shampoo her head every day to decrease the oil.
