Eating Issues/Swallowing

Hi,

I am going to try and describe my history and symptoms as
best that I can and follow the guide. I will start with a
summary history and then go into details with the symptoms.

Sorry in advance for such a long post, but I have tried so
many things to completely fix my problems and I think that
including all these details would be good.

It all started about 7 years ago at the age of 21. I had
just started a new job doing IT work, which was the career
I was starting back then, while going to college at the
same time. I would say that it was definitely a stressful
time for me.

I was an intern, so I was definitely worried about whether I
was doing well or not. I was depressed from the job and my life
in general. I am not sure exactly when the symptoms started,
but I do believe that it was a few months after starting this job.

I remember that I had lost my appetite considerably. I remember
eating half of everything, so half of what I would normally eat
for lunch. I usually do lose my appetite when I am depressed or
upset, but this was happening everyday for a while (at least months).
I lost a good amount of weight. My pants would barely fit.

I got over this and was determined to do the best work that I could
and not worry about it. I ended up doing great and was acknowledged
for it. I think my next symptom (phlegm) started after this. I really
cannot remember if the phlegm started around the time I lost my appetite,
or after conquering that issue.

Anyway, I still continued to have stress at work though. I think I
even struggled socially and that affected me at work and life in general.
The symptom was phlegm and/or mucous in my throat. I had to hack this up because regular coughing would not bring it out. I had to carry around
a napkin to cough the phlegm into. It was really embarrassing and I also
had to talk on the phone for my work. I had to clear my throat a lot too.

I worked there for 3 yrs, had some good times and bad. Ended up being
very confident in my work, felt very positive at one point, and even
gained weight to a size I never was before. I have always been thin, around
120 lbs. at a height of 5'6 or 5'7. I think I gained to around 125 lbs,
which was the most I had ever been.

Then I had problems again at work and was let go. I was unemployed for a
about a year after that before finding IT work again. I didn't really
enjoy the IT work and felt it wasn't my purpose in life. That I should
be doing something creative and artistic, such as music.

Anyway, the phlegm continued on and it was a daily thing. I suspected
allergies, but it seems to happen every where I work and at home. Nothing
like this (phlegm/mucous) had ever happened to me before. So, the first
time I was chronically sick or had chronic symptoms was around age 21
at that first job. I went to different doctors, GP, ENT. They all said
things that didn't make sense or I didn't think applied to me.

Things like drink more water. I had been drinking water all day at work
and home. Only some soda at lunch and dinner. Black tea in the mornings.
One ENT recommended nasal surgery for deviated septum. Did not do it as
I don't think that has anything to do with this. My nose has always been
like that and I never had issues my whole life.

I just ended up dealing with it and hoped to find a doctor to fix it
eventually one day. I got used to it. I did not have steady work in the
following years. I ended up quitting or getting fired from work for
various reasons. This put more pressure, stress, and anxiety on me and
my parents.

Around the age of 25 or 26, I noticed that my phlegm was worse, there
was more. I even had one incident where I though I was going to choke
on the phlegm while I was driving. I had to pull over, stop the car
in the middle of the street, get out of the car and continuously hack
up for a few minutes. I was barely able to breathe. I would get a few
seconds of breath and it just kept coming up. I was really scared and
luckily there was a woman standing outside her house who saw all this.

She asked me if I needed help, if I needed emergency and if I was choking.
I said no, but I asked if I could use her restroom. The phlegm was so
thick that I had to pull it out with both hands and use a mirror too to
see far back in the throat. Horrible experience. Then it was all out after
a few minutes of hacking it all up.

Went to doctors again and they didn't know what it was. I am trying to
remember the events in the correct order. I believe after this, I noticed having difficulty swallowing. It was weird when I first noticed it. Like
my swallowing wasn't smooth. I have always been a fast eater, but when I
get depressed, I end up eating a lot slower and less. I was depressed again
around this time, having no job or school, the phlegm issues, and nothing
else really going on.

So, I noticed that the food was not going down smoothly. It's hard to
describe. It's usually a process that you don't notice or think about
and the food just slides down. But now it wasn't going smoothly and was
causing me to notice the food. So, I started worrying about it going down
the wrong tube. The swallowing would get progressively worse, whether I
though about fear of choking or not.

This became the most serious symptom which I still have. I ended up eating
a lot less and this started around 2 yrs ago, I am 28 now. I have lost about
20 lbs from my normal weight and I am around 100 lbs now.

My diet has also been good I would say for the most part. Eating a lot
of home made foods, rice and lighter meat like chicken, sometimes beef,
sometimes stews, etc. Anyway, I had no reason to suspect food or diet
could have anything to do with this and neither did any doctor. There is
more about my life that I can include, but I think that these are the most
important things to include and just a lot of stress, anxiety, depression.

Now, the closest diagnosis that I have gotten is LPR Reflux. It seems to
match my symptoms and when I follow the diet recommended for it, it does
seem to help. The phlegm is pretty much gone, there's a little bit here
and there, but the swallowing issue remains. But even the swallowing gets
better the more I follow the diet, which is a very restrictive diet.

But the LPR diagnosis for me doesn't make sense, because I do not feel
anything coming up to my throat or esophagus. Unless, the phlegm has
weakened that area all these years, but how can it if it is not acid? If
it was acid, I definitely would have felt the burning. No burning in my
throat ever or heartburn.

My dad has acid reflux for the past 20 yrs or so and he's controlling
it with pills and not eating as much. He started having this in his early
20s, but he said it might have started even earlier in his teens. My mom
and sister have no health issues at all. My mom can pretty much eat whatever
she wants and whenever. I always felt that I was like her before all this
started, before the age of 21.

The most recent symptom, started about 6 months ago or more. It is like
a vomit burp. Only while I am eating. I start to eat, after a few bites,
I feel a burp coming up. But it is more like a vomit burp into my mouth.
It slowly comes up, then I burp, then its like the food or liquid vomit
that comes up stays in my throat for 5-10 seconds, then I swallow it back down. During this time I cannot talk either. Then I stop eating for a few
minutes, usually 5 min, then I am able to eat again, take a few bites and
the same process. Takes me an hour to eat and not even a normal sized
meal.

This happens with any food. Even the healthiest veggies. So does the
swallowing issue.

The diet I referred to earlier, which kind of helps is a low-acid, low fat diet. It will alkalize the body and it does seem to help. The more I follow it, it does seem to progress, but a very slow progression and I don't think
its the answer. The longest I did it was a few months I believe and while
it helped reduce the symptoms and help me eat more, it never completely
made it go away and I don't think its a permanent solution. I can provide
more details about the diet if needed.

I don't even get how it could be reflux, as I have never felt any kind of
reflux all these years. Even if it is something else that is refluxing,
not acid, I should still feel it come up. Like feeling a liquid or something
come up, but all these years I never felt anything, just phlegm. Clear, or
white phlegm most of the time. Rarely other colors. There was nothing to
ever suspect it to be reflux or related to food, or else I would have noticed.

I ended up finding about LPR reflux on my own after searching online about
a year ago. An ENT confirmed it after scoping my throat, gave me PPI and
diet. The PPI did not help, barely if anything. I think they made things
worse. But I stopped it after a month or so, not taking any medication now.

Before the swallowing issue started about 2 yrs ago, I had one incident of
a lump in throat. It was like a golf ball or tennis ball was stuck in my throat. Was worried about eating and swallowing. Went to doctor and he said
its anxiety/stress. Deal with it and it will go away. As I did whatever I
could to relax, it went away a few days later. So, when the swallowing thing
happened later, I thought it was the same thing, caused by mental stress or
anxiety, etc.

That is why I did not go to the doctor for a yr after the swallowing problem
started, because I thought they would say the same thing. So, I just tried
to deal with it on my own. It still happened everyday. Then I diagnosed myself with LPR. So, I am not sure how chronic stress could cause this as I
don't think that I have been stressed every day since the age of 21. I know that I have gone through moments of positivity and negativity. Even with the
swallowing thing, I was really positive at times and it made no difference.
Same thing with those early years with the phlegm only as symptom, there was
a lot of ups and downs. It wasn't all down everyday.

I'm extremely sorry again for this long post.

I don't know. Hopefully you can help me with all this info.

I have tried so many things, different diets, supplements, herbs. Some
things that seem to help is chamomile tea, DGL, marshmallow root. I just
started Slippery elm today. All of these seem to help a little but even
if I take them consistently, doesn't get rid of the problem along with the
diet.

Thank you so much for any response.

THANKS......

Hello

thank you so much for responding. I will try to answer the questions as completely as I can. Thank you again for your help I really appreciate it. I hope I answered everything
with enough detail.

1. Age,sex, weight, body and face appearance, country, occupation.

I am 28 years old. Male. Current weight: 100 lbs, Normal weight: 120 lbs,
Weight has usually been in the 115-120 lbs, even before health problems started, so from teenage yrs and on.

Always struggled to gain weight and sometimes to maintain weight.

If I am happy or content, I tend to eat more. Opposite moods I eat less.

Thin body (currently underweight, about 20lbs less than normal), steadily lost weight over the past 2 yrs due to swallowing issue, I guess oval face, light skin, look a lot younger than I am.

Live in the United States. I am an I.T. Professional, doing Help Desk and System Administration. Involves a lot of analytical work, problem solving, talking on
the phone or sometimes in person with computer users.

2. Main complaints and other associated troubles.
a)Where is the trouble; The exact locality of the complaint like hands, legs etc; duration of trouble.

It seems to be mainly in the throat and esophagus area. For the swallowing issue, I would think that it is at the top of the esophagus, when you first swallow. At the time of the gulp.
It feels weird, doesn't feel smooth, food will usually stick, have to re-swallow a few times or drink water to make it go down.

I end up chewing a lot more than usual and there are times when there is hesitation to swallow.
I have always been a fast eater my whole life before the swallowing issue. Even when I had the symptom
of phlegm only and no swallowing issue, I was able to eat fast. But now I eat very slowly.
I take small bites too.

Swallowing issue has been going on for the past 2 yrs.

The other symptom, vomit burps, occur in the mouth. Feel it rising up through the throat and feel
the liquid vomit fill the mouth after I burp. Never actually vomit, but it will come up to the mouth,
pools there for 5-10 seconds and then I swallow it down.

Vomit burp or regurgitated burps has been going on for the past year.

Phlegm in throat started about 7 years ago. First symptom of a chronic illness for me in my life.
Also, there was a lot of clearing the throat. I did notice that it would occur more right after
lunch and after breakfast. Would wake up in the morning and have to hack it up. Clear white phlegm.

It is one of the first things I would do when I went to the bathroom in the morning. It would happen
throughout the day randomly, but maybe that is because this was the time that I am digesting my food
after eating my meals and the result was phlegm? So, I guess I'm saying it would happen in between
meals too. It didn't happen as much in the evening, didn't happen after dinner or at night from what
I remember.

Phlegm has decreased in the past year, due to changes in diet. I still have some throughout the day,
but it is a lot less than before. Usually have some in the mornings but now it is yellow. Has been
that way for the past couple of months I think.

For the past 2 years, since the swallowing issue and vomit burps, I have had to eat a lot less than I
would normally eat for my whole life or for any adult man. About half of what I should be able to eat.

Initially, it was for fear of choking and not knowing what was going on. So, I ate less and tried to
calm myself down and deal with any mental problems that could be causing it. This caused me to
gradually lose weight to what I am now, underweight. This and the vomit burps have made it worse.
All these symptoms get in the way of me eating a normal amount for an adult or getting enough calories.

I never suspected reflux. There was one suggestion I read about a yr ago saying that it could be related
to reflux. I thought I could try taking Tums since I was so desperate, even though it didn't make sense.
Around this time, I even started to have difficulty breathing. I took one Tums and felt a million times
better within a minute or two. The breathing issue went away. But it lost its effect after a few weeks or so. Same thing with the PPI pills, helped initially, even improved the swallowing somewhat, but then
lost its effect and I had side effects too. Went off the pills since then.

b)What exactly do you feel, Sensation as pain, how pain feels or burn etc.

Reflux still doesn't make
sense to me as I have never felt anything, no pain or burning on the insides anywhere.

c)What are the factors that causes this trouble according to you.

It seems to be related to diet. Not sure if it's the root cause though, because I eat a very
healthy diet now, even a vegetarian diet and I still have symptoms and cannot eat as much as I
should like a normal person or adult.

The root cause may be the result of chronic stress, anxiety, depression. Not sure at this point.

Diet changes: No caffeine (no soda, no caffenated teas, no chocolate), no juices, no tomatos and nothing
related to tomatos (used to eat a lot of home made food with tomato paste, sometimes spicy tomato paste),
No red meat or beef. Would eat chicken and fish or turkey as main animal meat for the past year or so.
Currently eating vegetarian foods. No acidic fruit (blueberries or any berries, citrus fruits, etc),
no high fat foods (easier to eat foods boiled in water only or baked, cooking oils are harder to digest
and I get more of the vomit burps), no more nuts and seeds.

I have been pretty much following the Koufman diet for LPR Reflux. Here is the link for more info.

It is a low-fat, low-acid diet with eating high pH foods, so avoiding the things I listed above and eating
more alkaline foods (avocados, melons, bannanas). Avocados don't really agree with me too well. I eat
very small ones and sometimes can't finish that. Hard to digest for me.

Lifestyle changes: Not eating after 9 pm or not eating 3 hours before bed. Laying down at any time of
the day will make things worse, especially after a meal. Eat every 2 hours, smaller meals. Used to eat
large meals most of my life and usually 3 large meals a day and not much snacking in between.

All of these changes seem to help but they have never cured me. Maybe I haven't done it long enough.
Seems to be taking way longer than it should and meanwhile I am very underweight and it doesn't seem
right.

d)Condition under which the complaint is reduced or you feel better like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.

Just the diet choices that I mentioned in the previous question. Walking or moving around can help. Feels
like I'm digesting more.

e)Condition under which the complaint is increased like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.

Also, laying down makes it worse. Will have more of the symptoms or symptoms get worse after laying down.
I sit as straight as possible all day as even slouching can make it worse, especially at night around 8 or 9 pm and after.

Cannot exercise now. Feel too weak, like I won't be able to keep up. Sometimes even walking will do that to me.

f)Any other complaint any where in the body.

Sometimes breathing issue. Like I'm not getting full breaths from the stomach/abdomen.
Will happen if I eat a lot or if I eat late at night, laying down can make it worse.
This happens rarely now after dietary changes and lifestyle changes as mentioned before.

g)Onset time of troubles in detail, i.e which came first, after that what problem and so on.

I believe that I covered this in question 2a and did not want to post a duplicate.

h)Treatment method adopted and its result.

Covered in question 2c.

3. History of diseases in family.

My grandmother had leukemia. Father has acid reflux, used to have high cholesterol but that is gone
after dietary changes and eating less. Cousin from mom's side has diabetes.

That is all I know.

4. Personal History.
a)About childhood.

Very good childhood. Some of my happiest times in life. Liked to play a lot of games
mainly video games, watch t.v. and also really affected and enjoyed music a lot.

In general, a very happy kid with a lot of energy. Talked a lot too. I could be
very emotional at times. Appetite seemed to be effected when upset. Ate less.

Also, very thin as a child. Probably underweight. Always told that I was too skinny
by many people. Started to eat more as I got older, pre-teens and teenage years.

Didn't like to sit down as a child. Always liked to move around. Liked to talk a lot
and make noise. Didn't like being told not to talk in school.

b)Academic performance.

Good student and good grades for the most part. Always payed attention in classes
as a child to later on, high school, etc.

Father was strict and told to do well in school and how it's important.

c)Any major incidents in life and the effect of it on life.

First time I played piano. Really liked it. Bought my first keyboard at age of 21 or
22, when I felt that I shouldn't be doing IT work the rest of my life and that I
was meant to create music.

Also always wanted to be a singer and have written songs/lyrics, music, and want to
do it professionally. Feel like I was meant to do this.

d)How you are satisfied with your sex life, friends, family members, company etc.

It is fine. Friends - Not too many friends or much of a social life in the past couple
of years or so. Have one friend who is close to me since childhood and now. Have two
other friends who I see occasionally.

No longer see friends from high school. Used to be close with them but friendships
ended around the age of 19 or 20. Felt very alone around this time. Hard to trust people
and hard to make new friends.

Family members - feel like I have a great family, good relationship with parents and
sister. Feel that I am lucky to have them. Not always supportive, but they are helpful
and there for me for the most part.

Enjoy meeting new people for the most part.

5. Habits/Addiction.
a)Smoking, Alcohol,Sleeping pills, Laxative etc.

Do not use any of that. Do not like smoking or even being around it. Same thing with
alcohol. Never used sleeping pills, no need for laxatives or anything else as a habit.

b)Masturbation and frequency.

A lot less than I used to do. Has been this way for the past 2 yrs since having the
swallowing issue and eating less and illness has become even more serious.

I do it once in a while, maybe once a month or so. Its not consistent. THere is
low libido in general now. Before the swallowing issue, before 2 years ago, used to
do it much more often. Sometimes almost everyday. Or a few times a week.

6. How is your Appetite and Thirst.

Used to drink water more throughout the day, back in my early 20s and before, such as
my teenage years. Used to always want to sip water throughout the day and after eating
anything, even small snacks, such as a few cashews or nuts, some fruit, grapes, or
anything sugary. Wanted water to rinse mouth or wash it down, especially if something
was too sugary.

Now, my thirst is a lot less. I don't like the idea of drinking 8 glasses of water or
more everyday. It would be really forcing myself. Never liked drinking water with my
meals, always drank soda before. For the past year or two, water is all I drink all
day including with meals and I enjoy it now, but can't drink a lot like around 7 or 8
cups a day. Only other thing I drink is chamomile tea, usually at night.

Appetite - barely any appetite now or past 2 yrs. If I do have appetite, I want to eat
quickly but can't because I have to eat slowly now. In the past, I have always had
appetite, very good and strong appetite since teenage years I would say. Always felt
hungry, even shortly after a meal. Appetite was good for the most part during the
time I started having phlegm issues and years that followed, but greatly reduced
around the time the phlegm increased a lot and swallowing issue started 2 yrs ago.

Used to eat very quickly before to satisfy hunger. Used to force myself to eat as much
as I could during meals, lunch and dinner, in order to gain weight, even after I was
full. Would eat until I felt I could explode and was very bloated.

Didn't snack much during the day as a result of this. Forced myself to change lately,
by eating smaller meals and eating every 2 hrs. Actually, kind of started to do that
before the swallowing issue, when I was starting to workout and wanted to eat more by
spacing things out. Gained weight and muscle, but stopped working out months later
after depression. Ended up eating less, having more phlegm, and swallowing issue started
after that.

7. Likes and Dislikes.
a)Alcohol Bread Butter Bitter Salt Sweet Sour Fats Milk Mud Chalk Egg Spicy food Meat Fish Fruits Fried Food
Warm food-drink Cold food-drink Ice Ice cream Chocolates Tea Coffee.

Never really liked alcohol. Would drink only rarely with friends when they wanted to. Didn't
drink much and doesn't take much to effect me.

Ate rice most of my life with meals, white rice. Could not eat bread if having rice, would
feel too full. Usually one or the other. Always liked sandwiches, especially when going out
to eat, so softer sandwich bread.

Do not like the oiliness of butter or some other oily foods. Mom used to make oily macaroni that
I did not like. Hated the feeling of oil on my lips and hate the feeling of oil on my hands.

Used to drink tea every morning. Really needed warm drinks in the morning. Helped my voice
which was usually rough or hoarse in the mornings. Could not drink black tea by itself, too bitter
for me. Used to put 3 or 4 teaspoons of sugar. Drink chamomile now only and forced myself
to drink bitter. Got used to it. Still like to put a little sugar once in a while.

I like some salt. Not too much, lightly salted nuts. Can also eat nuts unsalted. Hated salted butter.

Don’t like sweets in general. Always kind of been like that. Don’t like too much sugar. Would
make my head spin, must have a full meal before eating any sweets, or else head would spin,
or slight headache or feeling light headed. Only liked certain sweets such as chocolate chip
cookies or oatmeal cookies. Do not like raisins with oatmeal cookies, too sweet for me.

Never liked sour foods. Liked some fatty foods, fatty meat (beef, beef stews using fat from
steak or beef and some vegetables, including potatoes to make stew broth).

Did not like milk for most of my life. Always gave me stomach issues, diarrhea. Did not
like cereal, especially in the morning. Only occasionally as a snack around night time. But
it would cause me to immediately go to the bathroom. I think my body might have gotten
used to milk and it does not happen like that as much anymore. Like milk with cookies.
More recently, crave milk and cereal and dairy in general.

Really like other forms of dairy, such as cheese. Melted cheeses, grilled cheese, etc. All kinds
of cheese.
Not sour yogurt though and only plain yogurt. Love heavy cream with bread. Preferred bread
to have more dough.

Always preferred hot or warm meals to cold. Hated cold food, desire to eat would be reduced.
Don’t like cold sandwiches for most part, always hot sandwiches. Loved spicy food, not too
spicy though such as spicy peppers.

Always liked eggs for breakfast. Especially scrambled eggs (2 eggs). Prefer the yellow yolk
to the white part. Eggs would always make me run to the bathroom too, sometimes while I was eating it and have not finished yet. Seem to cause diarrhea stools immediately after.
Would cause discomfort, gas for hours following the meal.

Always liked meat (beef and chicken), ate those two most of my life. Do not like dry chicken though or meat. Felt that I would not have energy if I did not eat meat with meals.
Like I did not have a full meal, headaches, lack of energy and light headed.
Do not eat as much meat now due to diet changes and do not feel that way now.
Liked ground beef or burgers the most, more than steak or any other part. Do like shredded meat too, beef, pork, or chicken. Something juicy, not dry, and like it more with sauces such as bbq sauce.

Never liked fish most of my life. Hated the smell. Forced to eat rarely. Like some fish now,
especially Salmon, Black cod, sometimes halibut.

Do not like fried foods too much. Did not like fries too much, especially if they were too oily
and I could never finish. Always ate the burger and then a little bit of fries. Could never really
finish both, it would be forced. Do not like oily pizza. Liked mayo a lot on burgers or sandwiches.

Disliked fruit for most part of my life. Would cause me stomach issues, such as diarrhea or
gas, or stomach upset.

Love nuts as a snack. All kinds (cashews, pistachio, peanuts, almonds, macadamia, etc).
Prefer roasted. Like some seeds too. Roasted sunflower seeds. Sesame seeds on a burger bun.
Walnuts have never agreed with me. Always given me heartburn, even after one or two walnuts.

Avocados are the only other food that I noticed would give me heartburn, especially if I ate
a medium to large one. If I ate too much of pizza, more than usual, then it can also give me heartburn.

Like room temperature water the most. Do not like ice or icy drinks.

Like chocolate once in a while. Not too much, too sugary. Feel the same about ice cream, the
sugar has kept me away from it. Do not like chips, never liked it even as a kid. Did not snack
much or like junk food too much.

Always hated coffee and still do. Never attracted to it.

Certain foods gave me gas and diarrhea like stools, such as milk.

b)Anything else about like and dislike of any activity with you or surrounding.

Like to play sports once in a while. Basketball and tennis. Do not like sitting around
all day, especially in front of a computer monitor.

Like to sing. Like to listen to music. Like all genres of music, rock the most. Usually
prefer to listen to music with head phones in a closed room by myself. Some music
on the speakers.

8. Bowel movements.
a)Nature of stool, frequency, satisfactory or not.

Two ways to answer this. The way it used to be and the way it is recently and now.

Used to be (most of my life): Very frequent, averaging two or three
times a day. Would compare my metabolism to a Ferrari. Not always satisfactory, but
not too much of an issue for the most part. Felt that I did go too much though, it was
exhausting. Not always smooth. Would occur a lot in the mornings most of my life.
Usually right after breakfast.

Recently (Last 2 years and more): Slowed down in my early to mid 20s, which was when the phlegm issues started. (once a day)

Really slowed down recently after swallowing issue, which started about 2 yrs ago. Probably because I’m eating less. (once every 2 or 3 days).
Eating more vegetarian diet recently, past month or so, more oatmeal and beans/lentils and I am more regular now (everyday, once or twice). Much smoother when eating foods with more fiber.

b)Any discomforts associated with stool.

Occasional diarrhea like stools once in a while. Usually depending on what I ate, eggs, milk, or
too much spicy foods.

Some straining and slow bowel movements. Common to take around 30 min for most part of my life.

9. Urine.
a)Frequency, nature, volume.

Normal for most part of my life. Usually light yellow. Go regularly since I sip water throughout
the day most of my life. Drink less water throughout the day more recently, past yr or two, probably because I’m eating less in general, so don’t go as much anymore and not as much volume as compared to the past.

b)Any discomfort before, during or after urination/odour

Not really. Been normal for most part of my life. Had some issues starting in the past
couple of years. But that passed also, it might have been related to stressful times. Odor is rare.

10. For men.
a)Any difference in erection/want of erection/weak erection/Ejaculation early/late.

Weaker erection when stressed or anxiety. Would occur in the past couple of years,
it would happen once in a while, come and go. Low libido, especially now.

b)Any other trouble in sex.

No, not really active recently.

11. For Females.
a)Menses, Regular, Irregular,Early, Late.
ANS.
b)Duration of menses.
ANS.
c)Nature of flow, Scanty, Blood colour, Consistency, Odour, Staining, itching/ when and what makes it worse/better.
ANS.

12. Sleep.
a)The quality of sleep, the quietness or restlessness of sleep,
position of sleep, times of waking and reasons for waking,
need for cover over various parts of the body,
whether the window must be open or closed etc.
common dreams, peculiar sounds or gestures during sleep, etc.

It is good for the most part now. It has not always been good in the past.

Now: Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Usually feel good and rested in the morning. A little
fatigued. Voice is hoarse in mornings. Spit out phlegm or mucous immediately upon
waking. About a few seconds after.

Past: Usually got 8 hours minimum. Sometimes more on weekends 8-10 hrs or sometimes
more. Did not feel like I got good rest and felt very fatigued after waking. Did not wake up
during sleep though. Very rarely would I wake to urinate. Sometimes phlegm would wake
me up. Had to hack it up, then drink some water. Doesn’t occur anymore after making sure
that I do not eat anything within 3 hours of bedtime.

Always been a side sleeper, still am. Prefer the right side. Sleeping with my arm under the pillow. Need to cover my feet for sure, they get cold but do take socks off except winter time.
Prefer windows to be closed most of the year, except for summer time. It gets too hot and
stuffy.

Never did any sleep walking. Do not know of any sounds or snoring.

Used to dream more, many years ago in the past. Do not dream at all anymore or past couple
of years.Would occasionally have trouble falling asleep in the past, due to too much energy,
wired, too many thoughts, or stress or anxiety. Not anymore.

13. Sweat
a)How much, what parts, staining, Odour.

Very little amount of sweating. Most would be the under-pits. Rarely staining.

Used to have my hands sweat a lot in the past, teenage years especially. Does not occur
anymore. Hands are dry now and in the recent years.

14. Weather
a)Tolerance to heat and cold, dryness, humidity, weather changes, sun,
foggy weather, wind drafts, closed rooms, etc.

Cannot tolerate cold weather. Prefer warm. Prefer hot to cold. Intolerance to heat as well,
since summer weather gets really hot in Los angeles. Do not like too much sun, when
it’s too strong. Do not like dry weather, prefer more on humid. Do not like foggy, cloudy,
or rain, or wind. Like the door to be open in rooms.

Get cold easily, especially the hands and feet. Hands are usually freezing, even when
weather is not too cold or when its neutral or more on the warm side.

15. Mental Status
a)The quality of the patient's life in relationship to loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. Overall quality of energy available to function in daily life, and under various circumstances.

My relationship with friends and family is ok. Glad that they are around. Cannot enjoy
meals with them anymore due to eating issues and diet restrictions.

Energy has decreased in general. Cannot exercise, play sports, cannot keep up. Get tired very
easily. Even when walking, feel like I can’t go on much. Probably becomes I’m forced to
eat less.

b)Any mental/emotional shocks occurring in the patient's life-grief, major financial losses separation from loved ones, death, identity crisis and other stress in life.

No. Just stress, sadness, and depression because of this illness/eating issues.

The only identity crisis I had was in the past, which I covered before in my first post about
my purpose in life. Felt that I should be involved in music vs. I.T. work. Know for sure
that I was meant to do something with music in my life and determined to do so. Feel that
I will eventually.

c)Memory,ability to concentrate/comprehend.

Harder to remember things recently. Memory used to be a lot sharper in the past, years ago.

Harder to focus now, especially because I focus on this health problem. Try not to think of
it too much though.

d)Are you fearful of anything eg: Animals, people, being alone, darkness, death, disease, robbers, thunder, storm, high places.

Used to fear death for a while and thought about it a lot. This was years ago, with the identity crisis and when I was not happy with my career and what I was doing for a living. Was unemployed, did not have stable career, worked on and off doing I.T. work. Felt that I was dead
inside I guess.

Felt that I should do something creative/artistic. Become a writer or do something else until I
achieved my goals as a song-writer, etc. Wanted change in my life.

Used to fear something happening to loved ones, such as death. Do not feel this way anymore
or as much. Realized it is a stupid thing to think about too much and not too rationale, although
it was an understandable fear.

Fear of planes and high places.

Fear disease recently when issues got more serious as time went on. Don’t fear anymore.
Feel that I will overcome the disease and naturally.

e)Are you anxious about anything: if yes, give details.

Not really. I feel that I have dealt with my anxiety and stress issues, even during the past year or so while having the swallowing issues and until now.

f)Are you impatient.

Some times I can be. I am impatient about this illness and getting it fixed.

I prefer a fast paced life and work compared to a slower, quiet one.
I can be very patient at times and I feel that I have been most of my life. Especially when
talking or dealing with others.

g)Are you doubtful or suspicious.

No, not really. I feel that I am open minded. I don’t doubt that I will get better and fix this
issue. I am not suspicious about any treatment, except pills or drugs and conventional
medicine.

h)Are you hurt easily (emotionally)how do you react. Does it cause hatred/revenge.

Sometimes. I guess more often than not. I am emotional, sometimes very emotional.

Sometimes it can cause feelings of hatred, anger, and thoughts of revenge. But I feel
that I deal with this and get over it in a healthy way. Usually by listening to music or
even writing songs.

i)Does your pride get hurt easily.

Not sure how to answer this. Don’t think so, but I can get sensitive at times.

j)Are you depressed, if so, reason/circumstances.

Yes. This illness. Health concern. Feel that I am struggling and suffering everyday at
every meal. Want to be able to eat like normal and eat a variety of foods like I used to
before.

Also, depressed about the fact that these issues have been going on for so long. That it
was undiagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed for the first couple of years during the phlegm
symptoms. And now, I am still not sure what it is or if it’s been diagnosed properly.

I have always looked after my health and gone to various doctors to get see what is going
on, and I cannot believe it got to the point that it did 2 years ago when the swallowing
issues began. Not sure if that is even related to the phlegm, but it seems like it is since the
phlegm occurred during this time and even increased right before.

Even went to a lot of naturopathic doctors in the past year or so. Holistic and one
homeopath as well. I am not sure what the homeopath gave me, she would not tell me but
it did not make the problems go away.

Hard to function with life in general because of this. Or even keep a job.

k)Do you like to share your problems.

No. I tend to deal with it myself. If it is serious and rarely I feel like I need to
talk to some, then I will. It can be a friend, family member, or a stranger. Health
issues I definitely like to share.

l)Effect of consolation.

Feels very good. Feel that I need to hear once in a while.

Sometimes, it doesn’t effect me as much. Feel that it will not help with my health
issues. Sometimes feel that it is not necessary. That I can manage without it.

m)Do you ever become suicidal when? How.

No. Never. Do not like to give up on anything. Do not like the idea of it at all.
Feel that there is always hope and a solution to everything.

n)Memory- quality if poor, for what ( eg. Names, places, people, what you read).

Memory can be poor occasionally and in general.

o)Do you weep easily, effect of weeping, ie, does it make you worse or better.

No. Do not like to weep. Sometimes it can make me feel better or worse.

Do not like to weep because I don’t like to get emotional. Doesn’t feel manly to me.
Doesn’t feel strong.

But sometimes, it feels really good. Feel relieved. Like it makes me feel alive.

p)Are you easily irritated. What makes you angry, how do you express it.

Can be. I guess anger is one of the emotions I felt a lot during most of my life.
Tend to listen to more aggressive rock because of it or hard rock. Express it
by listening to music or even creating it. Sometimes yelling.

Can be easily irritated at times.

q)Are you destructive.

I don’t think so. If anything, destructive to myself. Meaning mentally.

Not destructive to others.

It is rare for me to be destructive physically, such as breaking something, but I do
get very emotional at times.

r)How good are you in making decisions.

Not good. Struggled most of my life with this. Deciding what to do with my life.

Decisions in general. Should I go there or not. Deciding what to eat, especially when
going out to eat. Tended to be very picky with food most of my life.

s)Do you like company or like to remain alone.

Need company daily, such as family. Closeness. Occasionally like to be alone but not
as much.

t)How seriously are you affected by disorder and uncleanness in your surroundings.

Not so much. Tend to be disorderly in my room and not affected by uncleanliness as
much. Do not like to clean every day or regularly. Only once in a while when too much
mess has accumulated.

u)How does failure appear to you?

Do not want to accept it. But I can accept quitting if continuing is detrimental to me
whether mentally, physically, or health wise. This would occur in a situation such as a
job. The job itself or environment. But I do no like to give up, especially something with
a bigger picture.

v)Are there any matters that you deeply dislike?

Uncertainty. Loneliness. Doing something that I am not passionate about.

Fighting or arguments in general.

Thinking about death, purpose of life and death.

w)What activities you deeply like? How does it affect your mood?

Singing. Makes me come alive. Listening to music and singing along.
Sometimes just listening to music.

Sports and exercise regularly, once or twice a week and sometimes more. Or physical
activity in general such as moving around. Feel that I am using up the extra amount of
energy that I need to release or hyperness.

x)Are you affectionate? How does others sorrow affect you?

I think so. I care a lot about the people around me, family and friends. I think that it shows.

It affects me a lot. I do not like to see people sad in the world, even strangers.

y)Any present fears in your life or future.

Being stuck with this illness and symptoms or having to change my life a lot, such as a
restrictive diet. But I can live with that as long as it makes the symptoms and issue go
away and can eat at a normal pace and normal amount.

Fear of staying thin and underweight for a while until I get better.

z)Any present life or future life desires.

Present - Take care of this illness and gain weight back to normal.

Future - Have a more balanced life. A career, social life.

Meet the right person, get married, have kids.

Make more friends. Reach my goals with a career in music.

you will not have any issues by your weight, acc. to ayurveda you have 'VATA' body type, so you will not gain weight easily, more eating will only raise health issues, so be happy with your body and don't feel inferiorty complex, you have got mutitasking brain by nature which will always be valuable to you,

for good digestion no water or anything 1 hour before meals, not to drink much water just after meals, can take some little amount, then to drink 1 glass water 90 minutes after meal, dnt take cold water and cold foods, not much dry foods, some oily will be good, seasame oil or seeds are best for you, warm fresh foods should be taken in meals,

do some exercises like SURYA NAMASKAR (google it or youtube) 10 TIMES DAILY for proper blood flow in whole body,

BHRAMARI PRANAYAM (google it or youtube) 10 TIMES DAILY for mental freshness,

Did you want me to make a homoeopathic prescription as well? This looks like the kind of case I typically handle in clinic. You can click on my name to learn more about me.

Evocationer 9 years ago

{if pills form available then 3 pills as one dose}

Thanks.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
My apologies. I thought you were just giving Ayurvedic advice. I will step away from the case.

Evocationer 9 years ago
oh.. No problem, its totally fine,

warm regards to u.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Thank you so much to both of you for your time and your responses.

So, I am assuming that I am supposed to take the 200 C dose?

So, am I supposed to just take the pellets (one dose) and dissolve this into the water. Then drink it?

Then after I take the second dose, I stop and wait for 20 days right? I should see the symptoms slowly improve during this time right?

Can I also take natural supplements/herbs during this time? Such as Slippery elm, Marshmallow root, etc?

Thanks again.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
no that is not the dosing i am telling,

yes 200 c,

if medicine is available in liquid form then you need to dissolve, if pellets form then 3 pellets as one single dose directly no need to dissolve just keep in mouth,

yes you need to analyize your overall symptoms during these 20 days,

wait for herbs, let us see how this remedy works.

thanks..

Ok excellent. Yes, I understand.

1st dose is taken right before sleeping. 2nd dose is the next morning right after waking up. Then I stop and see what happens for the next 20 days.

I will stop all the herbs.

Thank you so much for your help.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
Hi,

I got it the 200 C today. Will take the first dose tonight (3 pellets) And final dose tomorrow morning.

Evocationer - thank you for responding as well. I would like your opinion too on my case if you don't mind. No offense to Homeo.mzp, I just would like to get as much help as I can and hear different opinions.

I am just hoping that what you guys are suggesting will finally help me and stop my problems.

Thanks.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
fine..

By the way,

the one I got at the pharmacy was Causticum 200 Ck. They said its the same thing as 200C.

I researched myself and came up with the fact that it's just the same thing, but prepared differently.

Hope this one was ok. Thanks.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
yes, u r right.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
So,

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before or not. I went to a homeopath about 2 or 3 months ago I believe it was.

She gave me a remedy but did not tell me what it was. I found out today that it was Kali bichromicum. She gave me one dose and said to wait a few weeks.

It didn't do anything. Just letting you know. Hope it doesn't interfere with what I took but that was a while ago.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
no problem, keep doing yoga and report when 20 days get over,

thanks..

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Hey,

so, I haven't seen a difference yet and I'm not sure if it's working.

I can't continue like this. There has to be something that can help and right away.

I cannot eat enough calories to maintain my health. This is pretty bad.

At first, it seemed like it was helping a little, like the first 2 or 3 days, but then it just continued the same like before.

I cannot wait anymore for something to happen. Isn't homeopathy supposed to work anyway even if you try a few things. Also, doesn't it work right away if the correct medicine is chosen?

I am going to try Acupuncture on Monday and see what the doctor says.

I am still open to homeopathy and I am hoping that you can recommend something else. I believe that we can find something to help me. I can also provide more details if it helps like the ones below.

Details: Even before I swallow, while I am chewing, I can tell that something is wrong. Like it will not be a normal swallow. It's weird and hard to describe but that's what it feels like.

Liquids are better or easier to swallow, but if I drink fast or normal speed like I used to, then it will go down in a bad way and hurt too. It will be like a reflex that just sends it back up but in a painful way.

Hopefully that helps narrow it down. Sorry if I sound upset and impatient, but I'm going crazy here not being able to eat properly. Every bite is like torture.

Thank you.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
your impaitence is right,

1) are the symptoms more worse than earlier

2) any mental changes like sleep, confidence, freshness etc.

Thanks.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Thank you so much for understanding and responding.

1.) No. The same

2.) No

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
ok you can go to accupunture but please try this remedy,

take ARSENICUM ALBUM 30, 2 drops in a tablespoon water, 3 times a day for 2 days, dnt eat or drink anything 30 minutes before or after medicine,
{if pills then 3 pills as one dose}

report felt after 10 days of stopping the course,

Thanks..

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Hey,

Actually, I was given arsenic album by a naturopathic doctor many months ago.

However, I think it was only one dose, like a few pellets or something. Don't remember for sure. I can find out by emailing him? I am not even sure what strength it was. It was most probably a low strength like the 30C though.

Or I can just get the remedy again and try the dosage your suggesting. I will get it tomorrow if you think I should and its usually only the pellets that are available. So, 3 pellets as one dose?

Also, so there should be improvement in 10 days or possibly sooner right? Do the first 2 days that I take the remedy count? Or, do I start counting the next day of the final dose?

Thanks.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
yes 3 pellets as one dose, start counting from the next day of final dose,

report for everything your physicsl symptoms and mental freshness.

thanks.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Ok, thank you.

Hope you have a good weekend.

tonybaloni33 9 years ago
thanks, hoping the remedy works for u.

homeo.mzp 9 years ago
Thank you. I really appreciate that.

I just got it and took the first dose.

The only other thing that I want to add is the following.

All these symptoms, they seem to be related, even though they started a few years apart.

It seems like it is some kind of reflux because my dad definitely has acid reflux.

I read about a different type of reflux where there is mucous/phlegm and it is refluxing digestive enzymes, and other contents which non-acidic. That's why I never felt any burn.

But I'm thinking the mucous protected me from acid, but the other contents slowly messed up my esophagus over time. That's the point of mucous right is that your body produces it to protect you.

It seems to have gotten worse over time. So, that's why the swallowing issue started a few years after the phlegm/mucous/clearing of throat.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you.
