Symptoms After The Stopping of Medications

Hello

I am new to homeopathic treatment, and I am not sure if I am going about things right or not, so I would appreciate some insight. I am currently taking a few homeopathic remedies, to help me with what’s going on, and I have listed those below. I am not sure if I am taking them right for what I am going through or if there would be a better way. Or if there would be better remedies?

I currently have the following symptoms: Fatigue, Night sweats, increased heart rate at night (90-100), my normal HR is in the 60’s, lately in the high 70’s, maybe increased blood pressure it feels like it, normal for me is low 100/70 or 60, I don’t know for sure if it’s elevated, I just feel like it is, also pulsatile tinnitus, and insomnia. I don’t really notice it until evening.

Other symptoms. Cramping no period, as I said I was on Depo-provera, and did not get a follow-up shot Dec 2014. It can take some time to get the period back after taking that. Headaches 2 different types, the one that is muscular from a knot in the shoulder I have taken Kali Phosphoricum 150c, and it worked wonderfully. The other type of headache originates in the spine, from the discs bulging, I get chiropractic care and this helps with these, I don’t get them very often. I also have post nasal drip, haven’t figured the cause of it yet, but not that bad or bothersome. I get other symptoms but they are not as bothersome, aches and pains, etc. If you need to know just ask, but when they’re not as bothersome, it’s hard to remember unless asked specifically about something. Oh and I guess I had positional vertigo a month or so ago, if that makes any difference?

Current Diagnosis's - RLS, Chronic Fatigue syndrome, goiter, hashimoto’s disease, though I DO NOT currently have hypo or hyper thyroid,

For the above symptoms I am taking: evening primrose oil (night sweats), 2600mg daily and lycopodium clavatum (HR and BP) 210c 1x daily for 3 days, last dose was Sunday. But I had taken it the same 2 weeks ago, and symptoms returned after 2 weeks, so I did it again. They are much better on these 2, but they don’t completely go away. I can sleep with it, the pulse is low enough that I don’t feel all jazzed up.

Supplements: Multi-vitiman, K2, B12 lozenge, Mag, Calcium, Vit D, Probiotic, CoQ10, N-Acetyl Cystine, Milk Thistle, Calcium D glucarate, Dandelion, Fish oil, and NADH-CoQ10. My calcium has D, Mag, Zinc, Copper, Evening Primrose Oil, and I think that’s it? Chinese herbs for the cramps.

Prescription Medciation: Prilosec 1x a day.

Prescriptions I am no longer on: I was on Gabapentin 1800mg, for 2 years and off Nov 14, also on Depo-provera, on for 4 years, off Dec 14. No other meds. I was on the Gabapentin for the RLS, I now take 1000mg of the Magnesium for that.

The story: I have had a heck of time over the last few years, and if you need the full story I would be happy to provide it if needed. But the short story is, I have had fatigue for 20 years, had bad PMS for years the DR recommended, Depo-provera for this 4 years ago, 6 months later I got a stomach virus, fatigue was much worse. Drs found my Vit D was low and that I had restless leg syndrome. About 2 years ago, I was put on Gabapentin for RLS. Still had the fatigue. Got very sick this summer, with stomach ulcers, I believe because of the Gabepentin. Still seeking a source of my fatigue, a few DR’s suggested both the Depo and the Gabapentin were the source of the fatigue.

Nov 1, 2014 after dosing down for several months I was finally able to get off the Gabapentin. When I was getting off of it my withdrawal symptoms I had were, fatigue, heart racing (120+), insomnia, night sweats, and heat intolerance. This is pretty much what I am currently experiencing, just not quite as severe, listed above. Initially I was dosing down by 300mg and then when it was realized I was having withdrawal, I was given a prescription for 100mg.

It is my belief my “current symptoms” (listed above) are related to the Gabapentin. I do not know this for a fact, but it is not my thyroid, during the withdrawal episodes, I SWORE It was my thyroid. I had the DR run tests, and I did test positive for Hashimoto’s disease, I do have a goiter, but all other thyroid tests are normal. And I have had many thyroid tests over the last 6 months all normal. Well there was one episode that was not related to the dose downs because I hadn’t done it yet and I do believe that was the thyroid being over-active, but it calmed itself down after a week. I have been tested for a "C" word I can't say (system says it's not authorized) menopause (2x now), other things the endocrinologist though could cause the symptoms (before I realized it was the Gabapentin).

My understanding from what I read on forums, though other people’s experiences with Gabapentin, is that it may take 6-12 months to fully recover from this medication. I don’t think it’s technically a "withdrawal” with the Gabapentin at this point, from my understanding your brain can take a 6-12 months to figure out how to work without the medication. I do think that’s what’s going on with my “current symptoms”. My only concern with this theory of mine, is that I was fine from about mid november till the end of December, when the symptoms came back. However the time of day that it comes back is the a few hours after I would have taken my med, if I were still on it. I did take Hylands Calms from Dec until a month or so ago, I thought it helped, if it did, it then stopped working.

Do you think what I am doing is the right way to handle this? Should I be taking them differently? I appreciate any help.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
This is a complicated case - complicated from the pathology AND the orthodox medication. It would take some careful prescribing, by someone with a fair bit of experience and a good knowledge of the philosophy. These kind of cases are tricky - you have to get potency, dosage and timing right or you can get into a mess. Not just lay people doing self prescribing, but homoeopaths without those qualities.

I can try to guide you through this process if you would be willing to answer a detailed questionnaire, designed to help me find the remedy or remedies best suited to your situation.

I can try to find a suitable remedy for you. Before doing that, please click on my username to know about me & my prescription skills. Once you have done that, I will post my standard questionnaire for you to reply.

Evocationer, Maybe I should go see a homeopathic. I am willing to answer your questions. But I am thinking I should wait until after I see my DR on Thursday, and see what she says on the subject, before I make any changes.

Last weekend I took the lycopodium and the as I said, 1 dose for 3 days, and I also took the Kali Phos for a headache. I thought the headache was returning on Thursday and I took a dose of the Kali. That night the night sweats and heart racing returned. I had to take benadryl to get some sleep. Last night too, but I feel I got more sleep last night. So maybe last night wasn't as severe? I guess the next few nights will tell. Do you think possibly it was the Kali phos? Especially if I was wrong, and a HA was not coming on? Do you think a smaller dose of Lycopodium would be better, only when symptoms are present. So take it at night when it happens?

I spoke with 2 different pharmacists today and one said for sure it could be the Gabapentin, and the other said it is possibly it. I do have a follow up appointment with an integrative DR on Thursday. I'll see what she says on the subject, but I am thinking she'll agree it was at least one of the meds causing this.

Thank you

Evocationier

I do want to clarify my fist paragraph in the previous reply.

I was saying maybe I should seek a homeopathic, because you stated my case would be difficult, it was a question, even though I accidentally left the "?" out. And as far as my DR appointment on Thursday, I was meaning I didn't want to make any changes until I see her, but that I waned to get started on the questions.

Also what makes it so difficult? Is it everything combined? Is it the CFS? There is hope that the CFS could be something else, the meds I was on, if so it could clear. It could be a vit deficiency. I haven't quite accepted it yet, I suppose it's hope that it's not it. My main concern right now is the HR and NS, these symptoms that keep happening at night. The rest I was still hoping time would cure.

Anyway whatever caused the episode this weekend seems to be a little better. I did not have to take anything to sleep the last 2 nights.

What makes a case difficult? You see patterns in cases with enough clinical experience to suspect where there is going to difficulty in treatment. Of course you can't always know for sure, and people will surprise you with their reactions.

The main obstacles to cure I can see in your case are:

1. Suppression of menstrual cycle with Depo-Provera

2. Multiple pathologies (goiter, hashimoto's)

3. Suppression of RLS with Gabapentin

4. Palliation or suppression of symptoms using homoeopathic medicines.

All of these together are likely to have created a weakened vital force, and at the same time a highly sensitive one. Dosage will need to be done carefully, and there will likely be upsurges of suppressed symptoms returning which need to be properly managed.

Okay, that makes sense, thank you for elaborating.

Well I saw my DR and she recommended a few additional supplements, one was supposed to help with the HR. Well I have given it a few weeks and it has not helped.

I am at wits end at night with the HR symptoms. If I can get the HR under control, I can sleep. So the nights that happens I have no problems, but the nights were I didn't do anything, I was miserable. I can take it, I can't take doing nothing. Also I "think" that the night sweats are a symptom of the HR. Meaning if my heart rate isn't elevated, I don't have the NS, so the nights that I get the HR at least to 80 or below, I don't have NS. If I wake up sweating, think my heart is racing also.

I did enter info into the Remedy Finder:

http://www.abchomeopathy.com/go.php?sr=28718,124112,124118,1....

I tried a small amount of the Rhus Tox, 120 c for 2 nights. I didn't help. I had Arnica Montana on hand, that actually seemed to help again took 90 to 120'cs of that.

Hi,

the Remedy Finder only really works for acute
complaints, like cold, flu, etc where you match
the symptoms of those to the remedy.

In your case, one needs, the mental, physical,
emotional, better by, worse by, thermal preference
and so on for a totality.

Evocationer has been off the forum for two weeks
and not responding to his cases, don't know if
he will be returning.

Fitness was willing to look at your case. He is
a very good prescriber and has had a lot of success
on here. If me , I would ask him to give you his
intake form and work with him on this.

Regards,

Simone

From what what I read fitness seems competent, and I am willing to work with him/her, however, I thought this is a forum and that it would be free advice, no one expecting payment. I didn't see anyone else asking for payment when I decided to post my case. So I guess I didn't reply to fitness because I wasn't sure what the link to his/her website meant? I thought it meant he/she is expecting me to pay for the advice?

Hi,

You can post a thread for Fitness on here, and it is free.

If you want to do private treatment by email with Fitness
that info is on his site.

Everything done on the forum is
free- it is volunteer.
