This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Complementary means the remedy 'compliments' or aids the action of the first remedy. This may mean one of several things.

1. The whole case isn't covered by a remedy that is known, or that is known by the prescriber (due to limited knowledge of possible remedies). So several 'complimentary' remedies are used, singly, but in the correct order, to try and match different but also similar components of the bigger picture.

2. The first remedy had a beneficial effect but it didn't cure, so a new (but somewhat similar) remedy needs to be found. This may be found amongst the 'complimentary; remedies (which are all similar to each other in some significant way).

3. After prescribing the first remedy, a new picture arises, and it requires a remedy that has been seen before to appear after the first remedy is prescribed. This is a kind of pattern or order you will see in many people - one remedy leading to another - and it is based on the experiences of generations of homoeopaths.

Inimical means the remedy shouldn't be prescribed too close to the first one, and this is due again to similarity. In fact Inimical and Complimentary can be the same, which can be confusing to people who don't understand homoeopathy in a deep way. An inimical remedy is so similar to the first, that it can 'cancel it out' or produce some kind of interaction with it.

I don't worry about inimical relationships. I just prescribe the indicated remedy and it works if it is correct.

Antidote is a remedy that is meant to cancel out the first remedy, IF given soon enough (hours, days later usually). Antidote can actually be the same as Inimical and Complimentary, since these relationships are actually only about the effect on the patient as to some kind of intrinsic quality.

An antidote also has a marked degree of similarity to the first remedy, which is how it neutralizes it (but 'curing' it homoeopathically). There is a very limited window of opportunity for an antidote to work in this way. In most cases only hours or days. Rarely weeks, never more than this.

What is LM potencies.. Is this the same as Mother Tincture?

bhuptgu 8 years ago
No. Mother tinctures are the medicine made of the gross physical substance. These contain the full amount of the substance from which our medicines are made, and are not usually used by homoeopaths.

Homoeopathic medicines are processed through a series of steps, consisting of dilution and succussion, with each step resulting in a particular potency (1x, 2x, 1c, 2c, LM 0/1, LM 0/2 etc). The LM potency scale is made with a higher level of dilution than any other scale, which is meant to reduce the level of aggravation experienced by a patient.

Thank you again..

What does it mean by hit the bottle n times? and what is the effect of this

That is called succussion and it is what unlocks the healing potential of the physical material. Succussion increases the power and depth of the medicine, allowing it to overcome the natural resistance of the disease. Succussion needs to be done every time the remedy is taken, to continually match any growing resistance by your internal disease.
