Acne--does anyone know this herb?

My 23 yr old son went to homepathic MD for treatment of his acne (forehead and back only). He has been on bactrim F for 2 yrs on and off, and it calms down at first with this, then starts again...he is desperate. The MD prescribed some tablets which are "anhoxinum 12x", l tab every 8 hrs. I can't find a thing on the internet...we live in Mexico but even in Spanish I cannot find anything. Has anyone heard of this and is it recommended for acne?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I have already replied your post on another thread "Arnica pills are they safe". I shall copy my post below:

Re: arnica pills safe? From Joe De Livera on 2006-04-21
To Sangale

Arnica 30c in the liquid dose can help your son and I feel confident that in a week the acne should be controlled with no new lesions and in about 3 weeks his acne will have disappeared.

Please read my instructions on making the liquid dose and the bottle must be succussed about 6 times before a teaspoonful is sipped thrice daily for the first week and twice daily after.

After he has overcome the Acne he should use Arnica 6c also in the liquid dose once every night perhaps for life.

Thank you! Can you tell me two things please: 1) is this the same as antroxinum 12x? because I cannot find anything on this; second can you please tell me where to find instructions on making the liquid dose of arnica 30c....am I able to purchase this in a homeopathic pharmacy? Is this inconsistent or conflictive with any other drugs...the med he is taking are propecia (against my wishes) and bactrim F. He will go off bactrim F if he can find another solution to his acne problems. This MD said it was 'juvenile acne'; and that internal cleanses etc would not help him in this case (I thought he should have a liver cleanse)...thank you! S.

i think the homeopathic medicine that you are talking about is anthraxinum not antroxinum chech this out http://www.abchomeopathy.com/r.php/Anthr

Arnica is not to be confused with the other remedy Antroxinum 12x or Anthraxinum and these remedies are of no avail for Acne.

You make the liquid dose by inserting 3 pellets of Arnica 30c into a 500ml bottle of spring water. You then shake the bottle hard to bring up bubbling and a dose is a teaspoonful which you sip thrice daily later reduced to twice in a week.

You are best advised not to get involved in liver cleansing as they can do more damage than good.

Please note that if you decide to use the Arnica therapy which incidentally has helped many hundreds, you must stop all other drugs like Bactrim that your son is using.

Joe De Livera last decade
Does he have to stop the propecia as well? I know he will stop the bactrim but not so sure about propecia.

sangale last decade
He will have to make up his mind if he wishes to use Arnica to help his acne.

Joe De Livera last decade
Then arnica does not work with propecia? He cannot take it together? If the answer is yes can he stop propecia for a short time until the acne is controlled, and then when he is on a lower dosage, resume propecia? I just want to give him some options.

Homeopathic remedies do not usually work with other more powerful drugs in the treatment of certain ailments.

You state that your 23 year old son is taking Propecia (Finesteride) and Bactrim for his acne with no positive response.

The use of Bactrim which is a powerful antibiotic is hardly justified for the treatment of acne while Propecia which is usually used for helping with growth of hair, does not seem to fit into the picture in the treatment of acne.

Do you know the reason why he was prescribed Propecia ?

Also what are the doses used for both Bactrim and Propecia ? For how long has he been taking this medication ?

Joe De Livera last decade
Sorry I wasn't clear about that...he is taking propecia to control his hair fallout. The Bactrim F was for his acne. He went off the bactrim now for a few days and developed huge breakouts on his forehead and a few on his back. He is really desperate....it is so discouraging. The bactrim does help at times.....S.

Does your son suffer from Hyperacidity with burning or discomfort in the stomach after meals ?

Does he do any regular exercise to sweat it out ?

Does he drink sufficient water ?

It is obvious that he cannot possibly take Bactrim for the rest of his life. He must stop it immediately.

I believe that his hair loss and acne is perhaps connected with his stomach and after you have replied my queries, I may be able to suggest a remedy.

Joe De Livera last decade
No, he doesn't suffer from hyperacidity in general; only recently did he contract a stomach intoxication (together with everyone else in the family) on a trip to Peru and had a bad stomach. The homeopathic doctor gave him something to clean out his stomach for 4 days and told him not to take any meds now, and that he could not start homeopathic meds until 48 hours after stopping this medication (sedecal?). He used to but no longer does exercise; he does drink a lot of water. I agree and have told him continuously he cannot take bactrim the rest of his life; he has to stop at one point; that is why on several occasions he has stopped but he gets so desperate when he starts to break out again...he doesn't understand why he is still breaking out at his age. He has been taking probiotics together with the bactrim. What is strange is that it is only his forehead...the rest of his face is very clear, and his back. His hair might be heredity in that my husband lost his hair in his late 20s...my son still has full head but it appears his part is spreading slightly so I'm not 100% propecia will work as well.

I shall await your news of his reponse to the Arnica which I understand in only to help cure the Acne on his forehead.

As you will realize it is very difficult to treat a patient on a forum such as this as the prescriber cannot see the patient to identify the acne which can also be Psoriasis. However this is only an idea I have formulated as you stated that he has acne only on his forehead which is very rare indeed. On the other hand psoriasis is usually confined to the elbows and other joints.

This is the reason why I suggested you use Arnica to see if it helps as other remedies can also be suggested if the ailment is Psoriasis which will be very difficult to cure.

Joe De Livera last decade
Thank you. His acne on the face is only on his forehead; however he also has breakouts on his back as well. I am certain it is not psoriasis. He will finish his antibiotic treatment for his stomach intoxication; and then will try your remedy. Thank you. S.

It is now 2 weeks since I last reported. My son decided to try first the local homeopath suggstion of anthraxinun; I see a slight improvement but he is still breaking out. Tomorrow I am going to buy the arnica 30C and he will try this to see if this works (and stop the anthroaxinum). He is 23 and is desperate why he is still breaking out on his forehead and back. He is afraid he will be scarred and the problem is he picks at it despite my telling him not to...........

I purchased arnica 30c in the homeopathic pharmacy, but there were 2 versions, one the hard round pellet and the other the softer one. Is one better than the other for the formula which is to dissolve in water? I first purchased the soft one and it dissolved almost in 2 seconds and you cannot notice anything in the water; then I sent to buy the hard one but haven't tried it yet. My son took his first dose, but again, he breaks out ONLY on the forehead (very very occasionally he will break out with one on the chin or cheek), and his back. His forehead is red and looks inflammed, he says he gets new pimples daily. Do you think this treatment will be the best option for him? He tried the anthraxinum tablets for a couple weeks and I thought it helped but he continues breaking out. He is desperate as are we all. S.

I can see that you are most concerned about your 23 year old son's chronic ailment.

You have used the most powerful Antibiotics although the type you used was released in the Fifties and is not so popular today as it had many side effects and was gradually discarded.
You then used the homeopathic remedy Anthraxinum which should have helped your son as it was the nearest remedy to help his condition, but did not.

I have successfully used Arnica in many cases of Acne and I can only offer my experience to your son as a possible alternative to the remedies that have not worked so far and can only hope that it will help him.

Arnica works by increase the blood supply intradermally and thereby washes away the cause of the blockage of the pores which give rise to Acne.

If Arnica is his remedy your son should notice that his acne shows improvement in a week. If it does not, and there is every chance that it may not, you can then seek assistance from other homeopaths on this forum.

Please keep me informed of his response in a week after he commences treatment.

One more question please, can he continue on the Anthraxinum together with the Arnica liquid dose? Thank you. S.

sangale last decade
I would prefer that he stops the Anthraxinum as it has not helped him in weeks.

Give the Arnica a chance to help him and I am confident that it will.

If the Arnica does not work and does not show any positive signs of helping him in 2 weeks he can then use other remedies that we can consider at that time.

Ok. Just to reconfirm, this is how I made the preparation. I put 3 pellets only of the arnica 30C into a 500ml bottle of spring water and shook it very well. I did not notice any change in the water, no bubbling or outward appearance. My son shook again the bottle prior to taking and poured 1 teapsoon and sipped from the teaspoon. I hope this is correct. The water doesn't look cloudy or doesn't have any unusual appearance other than looking just like water. I hope I did this correctly. Thank you.

sangale last decade
I believe that the reason why you did not notice any bubbles is because there was no air space on top. If you pour out about 10cm of water you will then promote the aeration with bubbling which is essential for succussion of the remedy.

The water will not be cloudy at all as you have only used 3 pellets but the Arnica 30c is now integral with the water which is now the remedy.

If you are able to get Arnica 30c in Ethanol this is even better as you are sure of the quality of the remedy. If you live in India you are advised to get the Arnica in the Ethanol base and you can ask for a 10ml dropper bottle of the remedy.

All you need is just 2 drops of the remedy which you can insert into a fresh bottle spring water and you take it from there.
