Acid Reflux, IBS Page 2 of 4

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
we here a lot about Carbo veg and Lyco for flatulance.

While it is true, there is a third remedy, which needs attention, and that is china.

All three have different set of symptoms, and one won't do for others.

Lazy prescibers bunch them together, and ask you to take both. By that you lose a chance for further follow up, and will never know what to do, if the problem gets resolved a few times, and recurs again.

There are many posts here where such combinations helped for some time, but when they recur the third or fourth time, these prescribers lift their hands up.

Now, I give the distinguishing feautures of all the three remedies.

****************

Lycopodium is one of the leading trio of flatulent remedies, Carbo veg. and China being the other two.

With Lycopodium there seems to be an almost constant fermentation of gas going on in the abdomen, which produces a loud croaking and rumbling. Remember, while China bloats the whole abdomen Carbo veg. prefers the upper and Lycopodium the lower parts. With Lycopodium this flatulent condition is very apt to occur in connection with chronic liver trouble. Again this rumbling of flatulence is often found particularly in the region of the splenic flexure of the colon or left hypochondria

This is from Nash.

Another important distinguishing feature of China is great flatulence, with sensation as if the abdomen were packed full; not ameliorated by eructation or passing flatus.

Carboveg has Excessive flatulence, pressing upward, stomach and abdomen.

Carboveg is worse lying down, and likely to have a burning sensation too.

As alreay told Lyco has Great flatulence with rumbling, mostly intestinal and pressing downward. There i croaking and rumbling in the abdomen, due to fermentation of gas.

Now, see how easy it is to select a medicine depending on the symptoms?

What is the need to alternate two medicines and spoil the case?

Mr. Murthy:

Thank you for your response. I do not have flatulance or stomach ache if I don't take Nexium or benefiber. It is only with the medicines that I have those problems. My main concern is heartburn, belching and irritable bowel syndrome.

Do you think Nat Phos will help to reduce and cure these problems? What is the letter after Nat Phos 200? I will order online. As i mentioned, I am very careful in my eating habits. I take mostly organic vegetables, fruits.

Thank you.

Malathy last decade
Describe your heart burn in as much detail as possible.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is an allopatic name.

Please describe the problem with your bowel in your own words.

Describe your belching too. Is it frequent? loud? Do you get relief after belching?

To Murthy

Thank you for your input to this thread with your explanation on the relative merits of using Carbo Veg, Lycopodium and China and of course the Nat Phos that I had prescribed to this patient.

This is the type of assistance that I would like you to continue to post if you decide to continue on the ABC instead of showing off your superior knowledge of classical Homeopathy which you consider is far above that of others who have been recognized as the resident prescribers on the ABC who have an unbeaten record of success in the treatment of their patients.

It is the abrasive manner that you have adopted that has given rise to the many protests from various members who have been on the ABC for as long as I have been on it, and I hope that you will continue in this manner in the future as well.

Please be assured that I do not bear you any ill will and your contribution is welcome if it can be of assistance whenever necessary to help with the solving of a difficult case which does not respond to the usual remedies that are used.

You must understand that each one of us who are dedicated to Homeopathy which I too entered in 1968 as a skeptic like you and later discovered that it was a wonderful system of medicine that was discovered by Hahnemann which has unfortunately been used by the classical school in a manner that was not the intention of the founder to permit to flounder as it seems to be doing today.

The main purpose of prescribing a remedy to a patient is to ensure that he will benefit from its use. There is no purpose served in one homeopath criticizing another merely because the remedy was not prescribed in the classical manner which according to the classical school will therefore render it dangerous to the patient.

This as you know is utter rubbish and it is this interpretation that has given rise to the virtual exchange of harsh words especially directed to you which I hope will cease forthwith.

Dear Joe

Any remedy taken a few times is generally not dangerous. Ofcouse it depends on the sensitivity of the patient. Some people do react on the first dose itself.

Too much repetetion, and combining two potent remedies together, may harm majority of the patients.

I explained many times, why unnecessary repetetion is dangerous, and the problems associated with taking two remedies together.

The only exception I give is to tissue salts, as thy act on a different plane.

I appreciate your intention of helping patients. arnica is a good medicine, for many complaints.

Do prescribe it, where you see fit. But, tell the patient to stop it when they have aggravation/appreciable amelioration, or if they get new symptoms.

Murthy

bandarbabu2000 last decade
Dear Murthy

I agree with your advice about repetition of remedies but I do not agree with including Arnica into this list as I have used it for 11 years and have over 100 patients who are using it as I do on a nightly basis. They have all reported that they have benefitted from its use nightly and some cannot do without it as they cannot enjoy the deep sleep that it promotes.

It is possible that I have quite accidentally discovered that elusive 'Fountain of Youth' which has been the subject of so much investigation and research in the past and I would recommend that you too use it and verify for yourself if you too experience the same beneficial effects that I and others who use it nightly have observed. It is understood that you will have to stop your coffee and other items that antidote homeopathic remedies.

Thank you Mr. Murthy:

3 years back I developed sensitivity in my teeth and also had severe shoulder pain due to over activity. I had to go through a lot of root canals. For both problems, I was given very heavy dosage of pain killers, antibiotics which started my heart burn.

So I was given Nexium. But with the antibiotics and pain killers, the heartburn had not stopped. Nexium causes severe stomach cramps, bloating, gas.

Since 11/2 years I have stopped all pain killers. Tried to stop Nexium too but severe heartburn caused me to go back to Nexium. It is mostly in my throat and middle chest. Sour belching. no relief after belching but severe heartburn.

IBS: If I don't take benefiber, bowels do not evacuate properly. frequent bowel movement, feel stuffed, and obstructed. With fiber it is normal. But get stomach ache in the middle abdomen.

Do the above descriptions help you to identify the problem and cure? If you would like I can send an email if you give your email address.

Dear Joe

'tell the patient to stop it when they have aggravation/appreciable amelioration, or if they get new symptoms.'

This is what I said.

If the nightly dose of Arnica is helping them, and they are not getting any new symptoms, and they are happy with it,let them continue.

However, it is better if they stop it, when they are relieved of their complaints, and start again, when the need arises.

But,please understand that people with heart enlargement, who are using blood thinners should not use it continuously.

Dear Malathy

I will look into your case and come back tomorrow.

Murthy

bandarbabu2000 last decade
Dear Malathy

All your present symptoms, coupled with the etiology of getting them after heavy use of antibiotics, indicate China.

Stop all your present homeopathic medications, give a gap of two/three days.

Meanwhile get China( also known as cinchona) 6C,and start taking 2 drops in a tablespoon of water, twice a day.

Mix the medicine with water thoroughly with a clean spoon.Increase the mixing time with each dose.

If you have mixed 5 times for the first dose, mix 7/8 times for the second dose.
Mix 10/12 times for the third dose..etc

Take the medicine for a week, daily morning and evening. Stop taking the
medicine in case symptoms become worse and inform.

Stop taking the medicine if you get appreciable relief.

Report after a week.

Make sure that there are no odors on you, around you and in your mouth while taking the medicine.

Use of camphor, incense sticks to be avoided.

with Regards

Murthy

P.S. You can sparingly use your allopathic medicines on s.o.s basis.

bandarbabu2000 last decade
Thank you Mr. Murthy:

Yesterday the heartburn became unbearable so I had to take Nexium.

I will order the cinchona online. Should I take it on empty stomach or after food? If it helps, how long should I take it? Any food restrictions?

Malathy last decade
Thank you Mr. Joe for helping me to find a cure for my acid reflux. As my heartburn became unbearable, I took Nexium yesterday. I will try the cinchona as prescribed by Mr. Murthy. I hope it will cure me.

Malathy last decade
I see there are couple of cinchonas. Should I get Cinchona Officinalis?

Malathy last decade
Yes.Cinhona officinalis,or china officinalis both are same.

You can take it preferably early in the morning, and half an hour before taking dinner.

We will see the response after the first week, and decide.

No food restrictions. Eat whatever you relish.

Mr. Murthy:

I got Cinchona on Friday 27th. I started taking it from that day evening. Today is the 3rd day. I stopped Nexium but am taking Zantac 150 (ranitidine)because there is still slight heartburn. It is over the counter medicine. Evenings the heartburn becomes more intense. Till yesterday took only one Zantac in the morning. Today had to take one just now (6pm) Stomach pain is not there. Taking benefiber. If not bowel movement is not satisfactory.
Is there any thing in homeopathy for proper bowel movements as I mentioned I have IBS. I have started my workout in the gym. Diet is very controlled and careful.

What would you like me to do now? Continue with the Cinchona? There is no adverse effect. But I am afraid to stop Zantac completely.

Thank you.

Malathy last decade
I hope you are mixing medicine thoroughly as suggested. Each time you must mix it for slightly more time than the previous dose.

You can continue your allopathic medicines on S.o.s basis.

Keep taking China, as suggested for a few days more and report.

As being told many times, stop it if you feel any worsening/appreciable relief, and come back.

Murthy

gavinimurthy last decade
Yes Mr. Murthy, I am stirring the medicine for few times more each time than the previous dose.

What do you mean by stopping the medication if I feel better? If stopped won't the heartburn come back? Please explain. Also kindly suggest some thing for IBS. Thank you.

Malathy last decade
If all your symptoms are relieved, you have to stop taking the medicine and observe.

The heartburn may not be there for two days, and it may start on the third day.

Start taking the medicine,if the symptoms return.

The correct treatment should make you not to have heartburn, even after you stop taking the medicines. That is what we mean by cure.

You may need a few more medicines, before the problem is eradicated totally.

Cinchona works for IBS too.

In homeopathy, one medicine is selected for all the problems you are having.

The correct medicine will give relief from all problems. Some problems may get relieved fast, some a little bit later.

In the book 'The Consumer's Guide to Homeopathy' by Dana Ullman, the statement is made that a study showed that ninety-two patients with IBS were given Asatoefida 3X and experienced noticeable improvements compared to the placebo group.

MMs indicate Asafoetida has flatulence and regurgitation, great difficulty bringing up wind (trapped gas), distention and other abdominal symptoms.

Have any of the prescribers here ever used Asafoetida, and if so, what results have you noticed?

Will88 last decade
Thanks again Mr. Murthy:

As my heartburn has not gone away, I will continue the medication. Will report in a few days.

Malathy last decade
To Will

Have you succeeded to kick your smoking and do you have that craving for a smoke ?

I have prescribed Asafoetida 30c and it has helped with flatulence but it did not seem to help in heartburn in the manner that Nat Phos 6x did. The combination of the two seemed ideal.

Joe De Livera last decade
Yes, Joe, I stopped smoking last 12/18/2005 using Arnica 30C in the wet dose twice per day. The only cravings I ever have are very minor.

I wonder if others have any experience with Asatoefida. It has many of the symptoms of IBS and other intestinal problems, but it's not mentioned very often here. I've tried several remedies that help with the chronic bloating, but none that eliminate it entirely, even for a short time.

I have several remedies that I could try again or in some rotation: Nat Phos 6X, Asafoetida 3X and 30C, China 30C and 6C, Carb Veg 30C, Lycopodium 30C and 6C, Berberis Vulg 30C, plus Sulphur and Potassium that are occasionally mentioned.

Other than Nat Phos, I haven't tried any of the remedies I have on a scheduled basis.

Symptoms are:

Chronic bloating, pressure builds throughout day and is worse after supper, or toward bedtime.

Almost all flatulence must come upward. At times, trapped air that can become very uncomfortable, has to be relieved by something: herb tea, Rolaids or maybe a homeopathic remedy, or all of these in combination.

Have had gallbladder scan, Cat Scan, Colonoscopy and Endoscopy. Only thing detected was some inflammation of stomach lining, but not enough to call it gastritis. Gallbladder sludge, but no hard stones. (But my retired GP thinks sludge could be causing symptoms).

Given prescription for IBS drugs that didn't help. Default diagnosis is minor inflammation and IBS, meaning they don't know exactly what the problem is.

Does anyone have suggestions for the remedies or have, or others that might be tried?

Will88 last decade
One more symptom. I cannot do hard physical work because anything very strenuous will cause a rapid build-up of pressure in my stomach, that will soon make it more difficult to breathe and I must stop all exertion until the pressure in stomach is relieved upward.

Will88 last decade
I presume that you are still taking Arnica 30c in the wet dose .

For your gastric problem I would like to start you off on Nat Phos 6x as this has helped many patients in the past as you can read on the GERD threads. Dose is 3 tablets taken twice daily.

Do not sleep for at least 2 hours after dinner and have a light dinner.

Your report of the gall bladder sludge is of concern but let us treat your problem with NP and then watch your response.

Hi Will88

I am opening a seperate thread 'Asafoetida and IBS' for you. Please continue your discussion there.

I am copying all the relavant posts there.

Dear Murthy,

Here is another case where you have tried to butt in to dominate the scene as far as the patient is concerned.

You may like to know that I have helped Will to QUIT smoking as he has confirmed in his post above and he has lately developed a gastric problem for which I have prescribed Nat Phos 6x.

I do not see any reason for you to take over the case without my permission and to order Will to go to your thread which you have opened up for him.

This is the reason why we have all ganged up on you to prevent you from dominating the ABC as you have done on the Hpathy which we will not permit here.

You may suggest some alternate therapy for Will's gastric problem but I would be surprised if he follows your order to him to respond to you on your new thread.

You may like to know that I prescribed Arnica 30c in the wet dose to him many months ago and he has confirmed that he has QUIT smoking with my therapy which was based on my Joepathy approach to homeopathy which invariably works.

I shall be very surprised if you can equate this cure of a chronic smoker with your classical case taking procedure.
