The ABC Homeopathy Forum
Blackheads, large pores, oily skin, hyperpigmentation
I am a African American female, 37 years old.I have extremely oily skin that looks greasy in the summertime and has very large pores on my entire body. My pores are very large on my breast, back, and inner thighs also which turn to blackheads in nearly every pore in those areas. When I squeeze them, they are sometimes very hard, white in the inside while dark on top and stubborn. When I squeeze them my skin leaves dark spots. I have less acne on my face but also have large pores and some blackheads on my cheeks. I also tend to grow fine hair on my neck, chin, and chest.
I do not smoke or drink alcohol. I tend to eat fried chicken, fish and vegetables. Love spicy foods. Acne is worse just before my menses. Prefer cool air of fan. Hate stuffy rooms and tight clothing. I rarely eat red meat. I love cheese but do not drink milk. I am overweight and am very mentally active. I meditate on a regular basis, am very philisophical, and can be talkative. I set my own work hours and do not stress at work.
I hope this is enough information to help me with clearing my skin. I am opento any help anyone can give as I have had this situation for years.

Hi,
Your acne and hair growth pattern, especially accompanied by obesity, sounds like hirsutism (hi level of male hormone which women normally have low levels of). If you have not been to a medical doctor about these issues then please do so. They can do simple blood tests to determine the cause and thus treat it. It may be as simple as determining that you are pre-diabetic but it also may be a tumor in the ovaries or adrenal gland. Thus I recommend an MD rather than homeopathy till you have further info on your condition.

I had blood test a couple of months ago. I am not prediabetic. I have low cholesterol, normal BP, and all the blood panels come back normal. The only thing they suggest for my acne is antibiotics. I had an ovarian cyst about 16 years ago which dissolved after a couple of months of acupucture. I have not had any more issues since. My primary doc doesn't think there is a real problem with the hair so he won't do anything about it. He just suggests waxing it off if it bothers me.

Just to clarify, the blood panels you speak of found your testerone and DHEA levels to be normal?
Do you have menstrual irregularity as well?
Have you noticed any hair loss on your temples or crown of your head?
When did your symptoms start?

Did not test the testosterone levels. My hair issue is a family trait passed down from my mother so they did not test for it. My mensus are regular every 28 days for 3 days. No hair loss on my temples or crown. I have very long hair..about 24 inches. This has happened gradually over 17 years. My hair started very slight and as I got older it increased. My skin has always been oily. The large pores started 13 years ago when my child was born. Over the years the blackheads began.

Your mother may have passed on the hair growth AND the health issue underlying it. If we consider the hyperpigmentation and that the symptoms started right around the time the cyst began to appear on your ovary it looks like mild ovarian dysfunction. Then looking at obesity, acne and hair growth pattern and it really looks like that. This can cause the hirsutism and hyperandrogenism (hi level male hormone) but it is an issue where its not a danger to your health so your doctor will naturally want to avoid drugs. However, if it is impacting your quality of life it is treatable. First line treatment is birth control pills (combination estrogen-progestin).
However, I think its a fantastic idea to try homeopathy too (or instead of). Click on the Homeopathy Tool link above and enter all your symptoms (try to include some mental stuff about you too). Or you could fill out one of the lengthy forms floating around in other posts and make a new specific request to the homeopaths on this forum.
Good luck!
