wasting away
I hope an experienced homeopath can help me.My 85 year old dad is currently hospitalized. He has been increasingly wasting away for about the past 18 months. He was very active with walking, taking care of the yard, etc. He has a great appetite and eats plenty (he can hardly lift the fork to his mouth!)
He had colon cancer surgery about 7-8 years ago. Part of his colon was removed. There is no sign of cancer now, though he has never really been the same since (he never stood up straight after that.)
He is now very frail, thin and weak. He really can't walk. His vital force seems to be slipping away. He is hospitalized because he fell down at home and couldn't get up. He has no broken bones and all xrays and cat scans are negative.
He cannot use his bladder and has catherized himself every 8 hours for about 7 years. He takes maintenance dose of allopathic bactrim against possible bacterial infection.
He has had carpal tunnel for many years and currently cannot reach his arms up or back.
His mind is sharp-no dementia. Has bent-forward back and osteoporosis.
For the past 13 years he has taken care of my mother who was partially paralyzed by a stroke. It has been a hardship, but he is dutiful.
He tells me he is not really concerned about anything any more. He is in constant pain.
I am having a difficult time understanding the workings of this.
Is there a remedy I can give to help him get back to functional life? It is a shame to see such a smart and sharp guy in this shape. joy55

In the absence of proper case taking which I think would be impossible for such a case as the patient cannot describe things well.
I personally have seen such a case (for my grand-dad) and 1 single dose of Sulphur 1M brought him back from death bed to a decent enough functional life.
If we cant do case taking and I had to pick one medicine to rouse someone's vital force , I would always pick the king of anti-psorics Sulphur.

I totally understand your situation.
What we did for my grand-dad was to stop all allopathic medicines and give him a SINGLE dose of Sulphur 1M.
That started a process of continuous improvement and then we repeated one more dose after 6 months. That pretty much completed the cure.

I wanted to add that , the stopping of allopathic medicines was a risk we took with the knowledge that it might work negatively too.
But, the life he was having at that time was worse than death, hence, it was worth taking the risk.

Hello again. After uti, dad was treated for pneumonia and began regaining strength. Gave 1 dose sulphur 1M.
But, now dad is in the hospital with very serious case of inflamatory bowel c.diff. colitis. He is miserable and in pain. I need suggestions. joy.

Very sorry to hear this. Since he also has a history of colon cancer, a good medicine to try would be HYDRASTIS CANADENSIS, as it has both Colitis and Colon cancer.
Also the mental state is in words of Boericke
Mind.--Depressed; sure of death, and desires it.
Give three doses of 200C potency in one day and hope for the best.

I cannot quickly get the medicine you have suggested-HYDRASTIS CANADENSIS 200c.
Would you please give your opinion regarding giving possibly ARSENICUM or NUX V.? In my area of US I can only get 30C without having the mail-order.
MD's here avoiding all homeopathic treatments are foolish and hurtful.

HYDRASTIS CANADENSIS 30C is ok too.
I do not think Nux-V is indicated. But, Ars. also has this condition. However, Hydr. would be the first choice.
