Sleeping problems and irritability

I'm looking for a homeopathic therapy for a series of problems that I have, specially insomnia and irritability. I'm a 36 years old female, mother of a 9 months old baby, having normal family life and sedentary but satisfying job. My problems with insomnia start in 2003, with apparently no reason. At the beginning it was occasionally (2-3 times/month) and I wasn't able to fall asleep and/or I was sleepless after 2-4-a.m. During the breastfeeding period (I was waking up every 3-4 hours/night) it aggravated, I wasn't able neither to fall asleep, nor to sleep after 2-4 a.m almost every night. Now I don't breastfeed anymore, but I still have problems with insomnia almost every night: can't sleep after 2-4 a.m. I have palpitations, headache, thoughts about things to do or small everyday problems. Sometimes I fall asleep around 5-6 a.m., sometimes not. In the morning I feel very tired and irritable. I tried to use valeriana (before pregnancy) and antistaminics lately, but without satisfying results.

Here is some other information that could help you out: I'm very tall, slim, vegetarian since I was 13. In 1996. I was diagnosticated with hiatus hernia and since then I have to eat small frequent meals. Before pregnancy I was suffering from constipation, now I'm regular. I don't smoke, don't drink coffee (stopped during pregnancy, before 2-3 cups/day), dont' drink alcohol (stopped during pregnancy, before 2-3 glasses/week). My cycles is six days long, very regular, very painful before pregnancy, now painless but abundant.
I'm going to the gym twice a week.
I am a hard worker, aggressive and strong-willed, concerned with small details. I have a strong temper and can be unapologetic. I tend to expect the same high standards from others, both at work and at home.
When it comes about my dreams, they are very realistic. Cold weather makes me feel worse.

Thank you in advance.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
take a dose of NUX VOM 30C one or two doses before sleeping.

do it for a day or two..

post back your condition after a week.

Both are good suggestions. Try nux first, and wait for a week.

If it doesn't help try coffea as suggested by Dr. Faisal.

This is a case of insomnia with irritability, things-to-do thoughts, worse at 2-4 am, etc. Nux is more indicated.

Nux Vom 30C 1 hour before going to bed for a week. Repeat a dose if you wake up and cant fall asleep.

Coffea would work in insomnia with an inability to relax.

Nux might even address the hernia issue. Lets see...

Thank you all, I'll be back in a week :-)

Mimil: You may stop taking the medicine the moment you notice improvements either in mental or pathological symptoms.

Please report changes periodically.

Good luck...

I've been taking 1 dose of Nux Vomica 30 CH before going to sleep for 4 days but the results were not as I expected: almost all nights I was having strong palpitations before going to bed and had difficulty to fall asleep (which I didn't have before). I was waking up around 2 a.m. having very strong headache, palpitations and things-to-do thoughts; fell asleep at 5-6 a.m. completely exhausted. In spite of all, during the day I felt less irritable but far away from what I would like to be.

Last night I didn't take Nux Vomica as I was feeling very excited (with apparently no reason) before going to bed. there was no way to fall asleep, I was having very strong palpitations and what-went-wrong thoughts, couldn't sleep almost all night. I'm completely destroyed, mentally and physically.

So, what went wrong?

You were supposed to take Nux only for a day or two.

Read Rishi's post once again.

Why did you take it for four days continuously?

Now don't do anything. Wait for a week and come back.

Tell us more about this problem of yours:

'I was diagnosticated with hiatus hernia and since then I have to eat small frequent meals.'

Give detailed symptoms ( what is the body experiencing).

I got several different answers regarding how many days I should take Nux Vomica and didn't know whose answer to consider the most reliable. Since after 2 days I didn't notice any improvement, I've continued (I'm not very familiar with how homeopathy should be practiced, sorry).

Hiatus hernia was diagnosed by gastroscopy when I was 25. after I was having serious digestive problems: I was vomiting almost any kind of food. After eating, I was feeling acid in my stomach, having a very strong stimulus to vomit. I've lost 10 kg in approx. 3 months (from 74 to 64 kg/ 181 cm height). I was tolerating only wheat-based foods (bread, simple cookies) during acute phase and, after an anti-helicobacter therapy, almost all kind of food in small portions. Even today if I exaggerate with food, or eat potentially dangerous food like chocolate, I have a stimulus to vomit. I still don't know what to attribute hiatus hernia, since I don't smoke, drink coffee or alcohol. Maybe a difficult childhood?

Back to insomnia, what should I do know?

Sleep and digestion are linked.

What is the nature of the vomit ...and its colour. How much time after eating ...sensation is experienced ?

Do you also vomit water...

Do you have skin ailments ?

Examine your tongue...tell me waht is the colour and nature of coating on it ...in the morning.. .before brushing and cleaning.

What is your weight ?

Hiatus Hernia is the herniation of a part of the stomach into the thoracic cavity through the esophageal opening within the diaphragm. Hiatus hernia occurs at the oesophageal opening. The disease is common after middle age. It is estimated that about half the people above 60 years of age suffer from it, although most of them may not have any symptoms. The correct diagnosis of haitus hernia can be arrived at by means of berium meal x-ray test. Normally, the opening, or hiatus, is fairly tight and grips the esophagus just above the stomach. If oesophagitis is severe however, there may be pain on swallowing and eventually difficulty swallowing as the oesophagus becomes scarred and narrowed. Oesophagitis can cause bleeding but this is not usually severe.

Do you have any of these symptoms:

'.... there may be pain on swallowing and eventually difficulty swallowing as the oesophagus becomes scarred and narrowed.'

please dont take any remedy for the next 7 to 10 days and then most of your symptoms would become normal.

later, if your problems continue, we will take a detailed case and suggest a remedy on totality.

'So, what went wrong?'
You are proving Nux Vomica. Stop this remedy at once, and allow this to pass, and the symptoms to return to normal before taking any other remedies.

Several days after my last post, without taking any remedy, I started to sleep better (except for one night when I was upset about some bad news). Now I don't have strong palpitations and things-to-do thoughts before going to sleep (or if I do, they pass away quickly), so I fall asleep easily, don't wake up at 2-4 a.m. and sleep 7-8 hours in a row. Sometimes I wake up to go to the bathroom, but then I fall asleep easily. When it comes to irritability, I feel some improvement but still sensible to noises, nervous in front of obstacles, concerned with small details, expecting high standards from others...

How should I work on irritability? And what if insomnia comes back?

Thank you.

PS: PANKAJ VARMA, thanks for your research, it's what I already knew about hiatus hernia. I 'm not sure if it causes me insomnia since, if I stay on my diet, I don't have particular problems with hernia in last 9-10 years.

if insomnia returns, we will take the full case and suggest on totality.
