Homeopathy for Pets

I understand that homeopathy means "like treats like," and that you use remedies based on what symptoms the original "mother tincture" would cause, right?

So... is there a materia medica for animals?

The reason I ask is, herbs and minerals have different effects on animals than people. The best example is that chocolate makes dogs and cats very sick, but not people.

Are there special provings done for separate species of animals?

Or do you use the materia medica for animals too? If you do, do you not think it might be inappropriate?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure you have a suitable answer. :-)

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I know a lady who gives her dog chocolate all the time, it loves it and doesn't seem to be bothered by it, actually I told her that it was not good, but she just said that he likes it.
And I also know that some people cannot handle chocolate at all, it gives them much stomach trouble. Luckily I can eat as much chocolate as I like without any trouble.

OK, but that's not the point of the question.

Animals have different biochemistry than people do, so the mother tinctures would cause different symptoms in a number of cases.

How do you know what symptoms to treat with animals? How do you know what remedies would treat what ailments?

Has there been no study done with animals? If not, how can you possibly know anything works?

If there have been studies done with animals, how many species?
