Jaw Pain while yawning/smiling/on slight touh....
My mother who is over 67 years old wears dentures. She has been suffering from pain in her right face/jaw on being touched, while yawning, eating, talking etc. Sometimes she experiences stabbing pain. We have checked with the dentist and he says dentures are fine. We notices an ulcer like projection at the back of her mouth as well. Please advise solutionashram on 2008-02-27

Thanks for your prompt response, Dr. Mahfooz. We have already checked 3 times with our regular dentist and he has told us the denture is fine and that there areno visible problems that he can talk of. We are at a loss as to what we should really do. On your advise, I will take a second opinion from another dentist. Just to give you a background, my mother has been wearin a soft cervical collar for the past two years on account of dropped neck problem. Her head has continued to droop and she gave up wearing the collar when the jaw pain became unbearable and she experienced uncomfortable chest pain as well. Despite a wait of two months plus minus the collar, we find her pain has not subsided. Meanwhile, we noticed she does have a severe injury below her tomgue as well (a part of her under-tongue has been bruised badly and has a shining look - almost a full cut across). She has been using something prescribed for her mouth ulcer which she herself noticed a while ago (her dentist did not spot that either). Please do help me out - what would be the best course of action in case the second dental appointment also does not yield any results. Thanks in advance

Thanks, Dr Tahira. Will revert after 3 days to you. Today she said she experienced severe pain while blowing her nose. Meanwhile, just to keep you posted, she has been advised to take becasule tablet once a day for 15 days and stop wearing dentures for a week and apply a gel called mucopain before having food. She started her course of tablets this morning. I hope it is okay to take Kalmia along with this medication. Please advise which is the bast time to take Kalmia and should it be had after food? This is the first time we are trying homeopathy - do I need to watch out for anything in particular while she is on Kalmia?

Ashram,
she can take Kalmia along with other medicines. No specific time for taking it but always keep space between meals and homeo remedies.Better 1 hour gap before and after taking it.However, she can take water if needs.Usually i don't recommend along with conventional medicines but in chronic patients it is wise to decrease other medicine gradually.u have to notice her symtopms and upcoming changes so that it could help in selecting next remedy if required.

Thank You, Dr. Tahira. I will be able to get Kalmia organised sometime early next week and shall revert with results. She has been off dentures for 2 days now and her pain is still very much there. As mentioned she takes becasule (1 tablet a day) and mucopain is applied when required (has not brought the pain down though. I forgot to mention last time that she feels a hollow sensation in the same area. Besides, she has suffered from irritable bowel syndrome for many years now and manages it on her own. She has for some years now had a tendency to lose awareness of her surroundings from time to time for a while and come back to herself (for eg. she loses awareness while travelling, watching TV etc and has a tendency to drop whatever she is holding at that time. Head nods off and falls. She has also suffered from body itching and fungal infection in her nails which has yet not got resolved. Her legs got bloated some time last year and became blackish. She has been applying castor oil and it has become a lot better now -scaly rough skin in that area and still a little dark. I thought I ought to give you her overall health condition so that the medication she takes for her current condition does not affect/aggravate any of her other problems.

Sorry Dr. Tahira. I forgot to mention that my Mother has also been dealing with a sitauation where she has hardly any control over her bladder. She has the need to run to the bathroom all the time and is unable to control her urge to urinate. This problem has also been with her for some time now. I read somewhere that it is important to mention all health issues of a patient in homeopathy - hence these long messages. Thanks once again:)))

Dear Dr. Tahira,
Thanks for your prompt reply. As mentioned earlier, we are trying Homeopathy for the first time ever. A road accident last year has left me with limited mobility, hence these online messages to seek help for my Mother. Having read in the forum that it is essential to describe all symptoms and overall health of the patient, I decided it was best that I mention everything I could recall. Please confirm that Kalmia 30c can be commenced, given all her health condition - if so, what is the dosage per day (ie. no of tablets?) Also, does homeopathy help resolve a dropped neck/ stoop? We are very worried since the allopathic route clearly suggests a corrective surgery which I would like to avoid at all cost

Ashram,
It is ok if u have ordered kalmia because I recommend this remedy to be available in older patient's medical kit.the symptoms u mentioned later have somewhat changed the situation.I guess she has severe muscular weakness.Causticum will suit overall.2ooc once a week for 3 weeks, but if u find sufficient improvement with even one dose, no need to repeat. She may visit her Dentist to avoid any complication.

Dr Tahira,
I gave my Mother Kalmia 30c for the past two days but there has been no improvement. Please advise how many globules of causticum 200c I should ask her to take, how should it be taken, and what is the best time to take it. What would one dose constitute?

Ashram,
In acute cases and emergency cases we expect results even in half an hour, but in chronic it takes sometime to appear betterment.
Regarding the medicine, better time is after 1 hour of breakfastand doseage is 2 drops in atea spoon of water or in pellets 2 pellets are enough as per dose. After giving single dose let me know her condition.

Thank You, Dr Tahira. I complete the 3rd day of giving her Kalmoia 30c today and will get her to have causticum 200c tomorrow post breakfast, 2 pellets in 1 teaspoon of water. Do I need to ensure that the pellets melt completely? As far as Kalmia is concerned, I gave her 4 pellets per day. Hope that was okay.
ashram last decade
yes, the pellets should be completely dissolved. If u have given 4 pills, it's ok.Did she visit her dentist?

Our regular dentist who has been seeing her for years has already told her there is no dental issue he can diagnose - dentures are fine etc. He did not spot her traumatic ulcer which was spotted by another Doctor. Since she has been taking Becasule for a week (not worn her dentures for a week), her ulcer in the tongue is better but the pain in the jaw region has not come down in the least. Difficult to open the mouth wide enough while eating, especially on the right side.Pain is there on the right jaw while eating, yawning, talking, smiling, chewing etc. Even while lying down on right side, or being touched on the right cheek, she feels pain. We hope the dose of causticum will help her feel better. It is difficult to see an aged person suffer so much, although she does keep cheerful despite everything. We can all see that she is coming to the end of her patience. I will revert to you once I try the new prescription on her. Do let me know what specifically I should watch out for

After causticum observe changes in her main suffering,i.e intensity of pain in jaw.We can try our best but cure is in the hands of God.i wish her good heath. In next, describe the appearance of her ulcer and its pat detail.I can realize ur feeling.Do one more thing, mix Hypericum Q 1 ml in 5 grams of petroleum jelly stir it well with a wooden spoon and massage it externally on her painful area and report back.

I cannot thank you enough for your prompt responses and all your help. God Bless You. I shall follow your instructions and revert. I was unable to organise the medication today. Since you have asked her to take causticum post breakfast, she will now only ba able to take it on Friday. I will revert to you before evening. Thanks and Bye for now:))

Dr. Tahira,
My mother had causticum today. We also applied the HypericumQ mixed with petroleum gel - just to let you know, so far there is no change. The jaw pain still persists. She has now started wearing her dentures again after a gap of 1 week. I shall let you know in case there is any change tomorrow. Please advise what you would like us to do next. Bye for now

Ashram,
Apply hypericum ointment daily it will help to repair nerves. If she deosn't feel any improvement in next few hours plz get her check up by ur nearset good homeopath or Medical Specialist so that we could get the clear picture of her problem. This the major hurdle in Forum treatment that we can't see patient's constitution and inspite of discussion something definitely misses.
