Sleep Apnea and Insomnia for 15 Years

Please suggest a remedy for this. Following are my answers to questions suggested:

Sex: Male
Age: 40
Nature of work: Computer Programmer
Habits: Running for 30mins, 2/3 times a week; Reading;

1. Describe your main suffering?
I was diagnosed with mixed apnea, both central and obstructive apnea about 2 years ago. I have been suffering from insomnia for the past 15 years. Prescribed to use Bi-PAP machine, but cannot tolerate it more than 3-4 hours. I also have a deviated septum (narrower on the left nostril). I feel very tired most of the time. Some days I get only 2 hours of sleep at the most and some days I have trouble falling asleep.
I also feel that I am not getting enough air in the lungs and sometimes have to consciously take breathe to feel fresh and gain some energy. Sometimes after falling asleep I suddenly wake with a jerky motion, and I suspect I have acid reflux, but not sure of this.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
I was diagnosed with Gilbert syndrome in 1990. My Bilirubin count is always above 1 (~1.3). I am intolerant of fatty foods, especially gets stomach upset if I take anything other than skim milk.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
I feel conscious of myself due to lack of sleep and not able to focus much on things and on conversations.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.
I feel very tired, slight pain in the left chest area and breathless. Sometimes I feel my throat is constricted and dry.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
My Jaundice started in 1989 and it lasted over a year and tried various types of medicines and no cure and finally diagnosed with Gilbert syndrome. During this time I was down and depressed and might be the beginning of insomnia. I probably have mild apnea at that time, do not know.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
Right after waking up and also during 2-3pm.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Example- time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
My nose gets stuffy before sleep most often and that aggravates the initialization of sleep.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
I cut down on caffeine, only a cup of tea in the morning. I do not take this cup also some days.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
Not during my worst days.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
I am mostly agreeable, nervous, somewhat easily offended. I also get irritated sometimes.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
no.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Excessive

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Normal. I sometimes feel very burning sensation in the stomach after waking. May be acid related.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
No.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
Normal, limbs.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
Normal

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
I mostly sleep on the side.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
Yes.

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
Father –High BP and Diabetes for the past 20 years.
Mother – Arthiritis; recently Diabetes.

23. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.
Tests a month ago - High cholesterol – LDL – 210; HDL – 38; Low blood sugar – 53 (non fasting)

Thanks Rishimba! Couple of questions. Is it pills or liquid? I am new to Homeopathy. Can you clarify the dosage instructions as to how many pills or how much liquid consists of a dose etc. Thanks again.

I took 3 doses (each does - 3 drops in 20 ml of water) of LACHESIS 200C about three days ago. The first day I felt very drowsy throughout the day. Next day also felt somewhat tired, but I think sleep quality slightly improved.

Are there any diet restrictions during this time? Should I avoid Coffee or Tea completely? Please advice. Thanks for your help.

LACHESIS acts slowly and thus gradually your sleep will improve in the next 7 to 10 days.

you can take tea but its better if you avoid coffee.

however, now that you have taken the remedy around 3 days back, you can take one or two cups of coffee per day. its not going to antidote now.

Hi Rishimba, Just want to update on my condition and get your advice again. My sleep hasn't improved after the dosage. I wake up several times during night, most times have difficulty falling asleep again and very tired during the day time.
About a month ago I had deviated septum corrected and the associated problem seem to have gone. Please advise. Thanks

Hi ARoberts

I have a similiar condition. Your insomnia will have gradually weakened your body over the period, and will likely, I believe, have exascerbated your other symptoms.

Lachesis will not fix this, these guys are fools to suggest this. Even Kent said homeopathy will not move a splinter. If you have a deviated septom this will limit your breathing at the times your body tries to use that nostril. You body will normally switch nostrils every 2.5 hours. One will feel blocked, I reckon perhaps you are coming more awake during these periods.

Go see your Doct. You need a sleep clinic. I'm not sure a CPAP will fix a deviated septom condition.

Logically, once you are certain the deviated septum is not the cause then this is the time to review to case.

Lachesis is one of a handful of remedies for 'chronic insomnia' but there are others.

Best wishes
