Sameer Vermani - a case for you

Okay Sameer.
I am fed up, and I don't want to diagnose myself ( I think I will be biased) (and neither am I good enough yet).

I am talking about my allergic rhinitis. Some background here: http://abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/144669/

Care to help me on this? I am sneezing as I write this email and I am pretty much fed up.

Heck if you cure me, I will never doubt you again ;-) [Just kidding - rest of this post is serious]

Please ask me whatever you need to, should you want to take this up.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I didnt see this coming ;)

I will take this up (not as challenge though) :)

So if you could please describe your general temperament, major events in your life which had a significant impact on you in the chronological order.

Any fears, anxieties, and odd mental symptoms must be mentioned. Idiosyncrasies are most important.

sameervermani last decade
Thanks! I am a sort of guy who can argue and respect a person at the same time ;-)

This is going to be a hard one for me to say whether any medicine works or not, because my rhinitis can hit me anytime.
Sometimes, it will not happen in 6 months (like last yr) sometimes 5 times in 2 months (like this year). So I guess the only way
I can judge is if it doesn't hit me again and I am not taking any allopathich suppressants (like claritin) for next few months.

What all I've tried till now at different intervals :
a) Nat Mur 200c - 2 doses per day, for 3 days (did not work, allergy hit in a few weeks)
b) Nux Vom 200c - 1 does per night, for 3 days (same as above)
c) Allium-Cepa 30c - 3 does per day, 2 days (completely useless)
d) Ars Alb 30c - 2 does per day, 4 days (allergy hit in a few weeks)

mind & personality:
* Optimist by nature
* Does not take on worries easily
* Friendly nature makes friends very fast, but not an extrovert. Prefer not to talk to people who don't match his wavelength
* Likes neatness, keeps house & things in order (but not obsessive). People generally like me in first impression when we meet.
* Forgetful, selectively. Certain things can be remembered for a long time, many other things are forgotten in minutes
* Sidenote to above - remembers things that interests him, forgets things that don't - very fast.
* Pictures everything visually. If something does not visually make sense, it will likely never makes sense (for example, I visualize
vital force as a pendulum that needs to be nudged to oscillate well and I visualize it getting stuck like the pendulum suddenly move into
some dense medium that needs to be wiped to get back to normal)
* Very sharp in technology, very bad with numbers.
* Ambitious
* Often dreams of being in the limelight (playing violin, guitar, talking with audience listening).
* Very easily irritable, especially if I find someone else 'not upto my standards'
* Get angry soon, but calm down also very soon. Do not keep things in my heart
* In general very emotional, but outside impression is of indifference unless person knows me
* Always thinks about the funny side of things
* Interested in artisitic things (photography, drawing, writing etc.)
* Mind often gets groggy (very often, I wane off mentally when people are talking and really need to focus to get back. This is peculiar.
Yet at other times, I latch on to concepts so fast that one would think I have a razor sharp mind)
* Extremely open minded - very staunch believer in 'live and let live'
* Very straight speaker. Can love and hate you at the same time for different reasons if I think they are right.
* OFten feel sleepy while driving
* Like good things in life

physical
* Overweight-ish
* 34 yrs
* 5ft 7in

food
* love non-vegetarian. Specially love red meats
* like wines (reds)/whisky

Details on hay-fever
* It hits me any time of the year. Of late, I have noticed it to be very evident in spring - pollen season. But can come without warning
* I am certainly allergic to dust and pollen. No idea what else (No food allergies though)
* What happens when it hits: lots of sneezing - 20,50 sneezes in a day. Watery discharge (thin, colorless). Not acidic. Nose gets blocked. When nose blocks, it irritates me more, and I sneeze more (basically any irritiation to my nose - even lightly squeezing it can cause me to sneeze)
* Had this problem since I was a kid (6-7 years old)
* Took ortrivin (Very strong nasal drop) since then to open up nose during these attacks
* Attacks typically last 3 days
* Stopped otrivin only a year or two ago. Been taking claritin every night for the past 1 year to keep it at bay. Stopped taking clariting end last yr.
* Modalities - generally, moving around help clears my nose, while lying down and resting helps me as well! Walking into a hot room aggravates,
walking into a cold air blast also aggravates. Cool room, no air blast amel.

General peculiarities (not related to hay-fever)
* The side I sleep on is the side of my nose that usually gets blocked - I flip slides and the other nasal passage gets blocked
* I often imagine a situation where the person I care for most dies and I feel very sad and imagine that situation. It is sort of wierd because I don't take on worries - I just think about that feeling. And then quickly forget about it
* I lose and put on weight very fast (3-4 lbs in a week - add or lose)

Family:
* Mother had same condition
* Brother has same condition

aske123 last decade
Some other peculiarities:
* I like even numbers. Love powers of 2 (especially #s where the power is also even - example, like 2^4 compared to 2^3)

* When I sneeze, during non-hayfever attacks, I always sneeze in pairs (never only one sneeze)

Some further questions:

How sympathetic are you towards other people's suffering ?

You said you are not enextrovert but you make friends easily. Please explain.

How is your confidence level ?

Are you dominating at home or outside ?

Do you take new responsibilities at work and home well ?

Can we say that you seldom complain of a stress unless the situation is very severe ?

Are moral and conservative ? Do you find it difficult to break a trivial rule ?

Do you have a fear of pointed objects ?

Do you have anxious conscientiousness over small details ?

Do you have CONVICTIONS for which you do not argue ,even seeming to agree to other person's viewpoint though internally keeping your own ?

How sympathetic are you towards other people's suffering ?

>> I feel for them. But I often feel bad and move on as well. However, I will never do anything that I know will make others suffer, even if it is for my benefit

You said you are not enextrovert but you make friends easily. Please explain.

>> Well, I almost have a dual personality on this. I completely bottle up with people I dont think are my wavelength while at the same time am extremely outgoing with those I like.

How is your confidence level ?
>> Very high

Are you dominating at home or outside ?
>> Yes, in general, I am dominating

Do you take new responsibilities at work and home well ?
>> Yes, all the time.

Can we say that you seldom complain of a stress unless the situation is very severe ?
>> Absolutely correct

Are moral and conservative ? Do you find it difficult to break a trivial rule ?

>> No, I am not. Very liberal

Do you have a fear of pointed objects ?

>> No

Do you have anxious conscientiousness over small details ?

>> Well, small details matter to me. I like to do a job well. Not so far as anxious consc. though.

Do you have CONVICTIONS for which you do not argue ,even seeming to agree to other person's viewpoint though internally keeping your own ?

>> Yes, I often just find it a waste of time to impress my point of view (after some initial discussions) and just want to move on. I will continue with my viewpoint.

Sorry, missed one part. Yes, I value morals highly. I will not do something if I know there is a rule against it, or I think it is wrong morally.

Were you a shy, 'sensitive to reprimand' and somewhat obstinate in your childhood years ?

Have you ever felt a 'hair sensation' on your tongue and then have not been able to find any hair on your tongue ?

Any white spots on nails ? Any crippled or ingrown nails ? on hands or toes ? Is you foot sweat offensive ?

Do you have test phobia or stage fright ?

-----------------------------

Do you dislike 'change in plans' as you like to prepare well ?

Any fears ?

Any anxiety felt in the epigastrium ?

Do you have a strong desire for company ?

Do you startle from sudden noises easily ?

Is you speech charaterized by a bit of stiffness ?

Do excercise strong control over your emotions ?

Were you a shy, 'sensitive to reprimand' and somewhat obstinate in your childhood years ?

>> Obstinate yes. Shy yes. Sensitive to reprimand - probably

Have you ever felt a 'hair sensation' on your tongue and then have not been able to find any hair on your tongue ?

>> Hahaha. What a nice question. I have a hair sensation once in a while. But I always find the hair.

Any white spots on nails ?

>> No (one small white spot of left hand index finger)

Any crippled or ingrown nails ? on hands or toes ? Is you foot sweat offensive ?

>> No,No,No.

Do you have test phobia or stage fright ?

>> Test phobia!! Brings back another peculiarity. I used to often dream that I am going for some exam, but have prepared for another topic (example, going for math, prepared for literature). Or I used to dream that I am appearing for an exam and find I don't have my pants on :-) I no longer dream this - but this dream used to come to me once in a while till 3-4 years ago.

-----------------------------

Do you dislike 'change in plans' as you like to prepare well ?

>> Not really.

Any fears ?
>> I don't like watching horror movies. If I go to a dark room alone after that, I look back once in a while to see if any of those characters will pop out ;)

Any anxiety felt in the epigastrium ?
>> Don't think so

Do you have a strong desire for company ?
>> No. I often like to be alone - reading a book, watching TV

Do you startle from sudden noises easily ?
>> No, don't think so

Is you speech charaterized by a bit of stiffness ?
>> No

Do excercise strong control over your emotions ?
>> Yes, very much

BTW, I also tried Gelsemium at one pt. of time. Like I said, it is hard for me to know if it worked or not, since my allergies can hit me anytime. All I can say is that with all the medicines I tried, my allergies have _always_ come back.

aske123 last decade
Is you speech charaterized by a bit of stiffness ?
>> No

I rethought this. These questions bring up some thoughts that I had forgotten about. Once in a while, I do believe, that for certain words, I have a stiff way of pronouncing it. It's hard to explain. I have very good control, especially of English, while speaking. However, certain words (very very few and I can't remember which ones) feel a little 'stiff' while rolling off my tongue. The reason I write this is you chose a great combination of words 'BIT stiff'. That is the exact feeling I get when I pronounce some words (does not happen often).

Hmm..some more questions:

1) Do you find it difficult to grasp things which require something other than LINEAR logic ? Are you able to get intuitive feel about non-linear things ?
Or is it that you always require the 'structure' and 'step by step flow' of linear logic ?

2)Do you tend to rely on logic a lot at every step of your life ? e.g. deciding even the logical thing to say in response to your wife's complaint . Is it like you can live your life in the most 'logical' way ?

3)Do you tend to be too keen to get your point across , and even have a tendency to talk on matters you know little about (to 'impress' your audience) or you stick to what you know in conversations ?

4) Do you always follow the practical approach ?

5) Do you ever tend to be rigid ?

>> Very interesting question. I always try and map every problem into 2-dimensional step by step processes. Linear logic makes most sense for me. Non-linear logic is not a comfort spot for me.

2)Do you tend to rely on logic a lot at every step of your life ? e.g. deciding even the logical thing to say in response to your wife's complaint . Is it like you can live your life in the most 'logical' way ?

>> Yes. I often say logical things. I prefer to be logical in my life. I will never take sides because I love or hate someone. I will take the person's side who I think has a point.

3)Do you tend to be too keen to get your point across , and even have a tendency to talk on matters you know little about (to 'impress' your audience) or you stick to what you know in conversations ?

5) Do you ever tend to be rigid ?

One final question , and a yes here will be the icing on the cake ;)

Do you tend to systematic , THOROUGH, organized in your work ?

sameervermani last decade
Happy to provide the icing.

A thorough Yes, here

aske123 last decade
Okay, then lets eat the cake :)

A total of 3 doses of Kali Carbonicum 30c

equally spaced on a single day.

1 dose = a cap-full from a bottle of plain spring water where 2 pellets have been dissolved. ( Leave pellets for 20 mins and then shake gently to dissolve)

Report status in 5 days.

sameervermani last decade
Okay Sameer, however in my case, 5 days won't do anything. As I mentioned, once a bout goes away, it may go away for weeks to months and hit me hard again. So I will let you know what happens in 5 days, but essentially, we need to wait till the next bout hits me. So there is no way for me to know if the medicine worked till it doesn't hit me again for atleast a few months.

I am going to take this equally spaced dose tomorrow, Sunday, and report what happened throughout the week after 5 days.

I was very impressed by your questions, but I am a little surprised by the arrived at remedy. If you have the time, since I am learning, I would like to know:
a) Your thought process from start to finish
b) Which rep. software do you use?

Since we are over the internet and you cannot judge my reactions nor have we had any discussion on whether I interpreted your questions the way it was intended, I wanted to add the following, just in case:

I read the keynotes of K-carb and here are my responses, specific to them:
(I am quoting only those keynotes that have a strong indication, if present towards KC, leaving some others out)

Keynote references: Nash, Leaders in Hom & Morisson, Desktop keynotes ref

I found http://www.similima.com/gen156.html

Which talks about miasmatic treatment during latent periods of hayfever. Makes a lot of sense to me. But I don't understand the rest of what they are saying (all the +++ and ++ weightage). I get the feeling you are approacing this case not by simple repertorization, but with the assumption that something miasmatic is at play here (KC is indicated in that link too)

I'd love to know the approach and what this page is concluding.

thanks

aske123 last decade
First thing was miasmatic diagnosis based on your troublesome symptoms of hayfever, as the mental state is predominantly psoric. Hayfever and that too inherited always points to the tubercular miasm.

So, we need a remedy which covers psoric and tubercular miasms. I see no element of sycosis or syphilis in your case.

So, this leaves me with a reduced set of remedy choices.

Your being optimistic narrows this list down to

Sulph., Lyc. , Sil. , Kali-C, Phos. Calc.

Your being sensitive, neat and organized rules out Sulph.

Your confidence being 'very high' weakens the case for Lycopodium because I am yet to see a 'truly' confident Lycopodium.

Phosphorus people are more intuitive and ethereal as they are not one of the rational types. They do not live out of their intellect. They tend lack boundaries when experiencing outside stimulus.

That leaves me with Calc. , Silica and Kali-c.

Silica..hmm.. I thought about this remedy a lot since being artistic is something which is pointing more to this remedy than Calc or Kali-C. But once again, Silica patients ( in it's full development) are more often mild , yielding (atleast outside home). I am not ruling this out completely though.

Now, this leaves Kali-C and Calc. Your saying that you dont complain about a stress unless the situation is very severe indeed and your sticking to 'linear logic' and 'structure' , points much more to Kali-C than Calc. , hence the remedy choice. Calc. state also tends to be more anxiety/fear prone which you are not.

Ofcourse, this is just a brief outline of how I went about this.

I do not use any rep. software. I refer to Murphy's and Kent's repertories IF needed.

In your case, there isn't much to repertorize as there are no 'really odd' symptoms.
I surely know that sneezing, coryza , nose block, general worsening from warm rooms during acutes, and intolerance to drafts are all present in Kali-C.

What is a good reference to read about miasmatic matching? (Something that is easier to understand, not using the tough to understand Hahn. language) I don't believe Murphy has sections on it.

aske123 last decade
Also, I read in some old threads of yours that you are now taking a course in hpathy. Can you point me to which one?

aske123 last decade
Miasmatic daignosis is something which can be learnt to an 'extent' through books as there are not many good books on the subject. There are some old classics by Hahn(Chronic diseases) and JH Allen(chronic miasms). You will have to a get a feel for it through experience with each case.

Okay Sameer, I did not have to wait long. I took KC 30c wet dose yesterday. Today morning, I sneezed a few times with the customary 'nose is tickling' feeling. Same as most other days when the allergy can potentially hit

Hmm.. do not take any medicine now.

Let us just wait and watch.
