Is Lac-c likely to dry up milk...

even if that is not desired or needed?

I have a new homeopath who has me on an LM potency of Lac-c (mostly for headaches) and has warned me that drying up breastmilk is a major action of the remedy. I can *not* have my milk dried up. I am breastfeeding and we are vegan so it is essential for the baby to get human milk as long as possible, until he weans himself a couple of years from now. This has to be my main priority.

Now I'm a little worried because if this turns out to be the right remedy for me and it affects my milk supply, is there anything to be done? Besides discontinuing treatment altogether? If I had diagnosed myself I would have gone with Lachesis, which is similar in picture to Lac-c, so I really feel like "my" remedy is in fact one or the other. I guess I'm just hoping that Lac-c is one of those remedies that can go either way, depending on the individual needs of each body. Or that a different but similar remediy can be substituted if need be, rather than taking no remedy at all.

Any thoughts on or experience with this remedy?

Thanks, Shayla

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
LAC CANINUM is well known and used to dry up breast milk when the mother wishes to cease breast feeding.

As there are MANY remedies to use for headaches, why not some symptoms.....? Do you have previous experience before nursing, that this remedy helped your headache??

I think my homeopath has chosen this as a constitutional remedy of sorts, with my type of migraine--moving from left (mild) temple to right (violent)--as a keynote symptom. I'm only working with a homeopath because I tend to have success diagnosing everyone but myself, so I'm inclined to give what he prescribes a try. So far it's only been one dose last Saturday, and while I'm having aggravations I haven't had any migraine problems. I can't really tell about my milk yet.

I never know what to say when people ask for symptoms... I know more about homeopathic phsychology than physical symptomology. My migraines are better for cold applications and firm pressure, and I tend to want to curl up, duck my head down and wrap my arms around it. Headaches throbbing, bursting pain, alternating sides, pain extending to neck and shoulder, a thousand times worse if I move any part of myself. Not related to headaches: I'm quite jealous and posessive, don't want friends to have other friends, etc... have nymphomania aternating with indifference to sex, I tend to be a man in many sexual dreams (partnered with another man), have the ability (and tendancy) to block unpleasant things out to the point that I can't recall them, I'm extremely naive, but am unable to trust someone if they have betrayed me once, have nightmares of being betrayed/lied to, am too self-centered and controlling, talkative, people find me charismatic. I'm claustrophobic, even when it comes to jewelry and clothing. Tendancy for swollen glands in neck and under-jaw area.

In the past, I have used pulsatilla (which caused milk supply issues), bryonia, and sepia for headaches. All were hit and miss, and my former homeopath never hit on a consitutional remedy for me. I hope it will be different this time, but this Lac-c thing and the breastmilk thing is making me nervous.

There are many Lac's ??? in the Materia Med of Nosodes. But only
Lac Fel & Lac Vacc seem to be free of the milk drying effect.
But there seem to be pointers to other constitutional remedies. Such as Ars Alb & Tuberculinum , etc . ? get a 2nd opinion?.

Thanks for all the advice, everybody. As of now I'm not having any problem with milk supply. I'm still having a strong letdown and everything. Although it's only been one dose. If this remedy was going to dry up my milk, would it have already started doing so? It's been 5 days now.

Unfortunately I live in rural OK where homeopaths are generally not found and I got screwed around by the homeopath I tried to deal with via phone, so there are no second opinions for me.

One thing: the aggravations. I understand past injuries can be revisited, but the day after my dose I experienced terrible fatigue and then within 36 hours of the dose started my period MID-CYCLE. And I'm one of those women who get regular periods regardless of breastfeeding so this is very strange for me. It's been completely painless (also strange) and very heavy, complete with periodic gushes that send me rushing to the bathroom. My homeopath doesn't seem to think this is a big deal, and it probably isn't, but is this kind of thing normal with constitutional treatment? Is my body just trying to flush something out? Very interesting...

Thanks again!

wouldnt worry about it if it follows normal 3/4 day period, and then tails off.

Does anyone know if Goat's Milk has been potentized homeopathically ?

Boricke lists Dog's milk (Lac Canium) and Skimmed Milk (Lac Defloratum).
