Strange Allergic Rhinitis - Kindly advise

Hello. I suffer from "Allergic Rhinitis" since childhood. My problem season is Jan(end)-Mar. I used this forum in Feb-2004 (when problem was acute) to seek advise. Followed suggestions of Dr.Venugopal. That time he asked me to seek remedy well before onset of problem season. I do not know if he is still active on this forum. I hope he is. I also seek advise from other experts and look for some miracle.

Please forgive me if this statement is too verbose, but I am told practitioners of homeopathy need to know minute details of problem as well as person.

Thanking in anticipation of miracle solution.

- Ketan

Statement of problem :

My age is 40 (22 March, 1964), Male, residing at Ahmedabad, India. I have had tonsil removal operation at the age of 6. Since then, I have always had this problem. But I have been able to mark period and causes since last 9 years only.

Main complaints :
1. Frequest sneezing / coughing and continuous white (or colorless) discharge from nose during the period January (end)-February every year. This is the transition period from winter to summer.
2. Severe itching in eyes prompting continuous rubbing.
3. Quite often I can not have peaceful sleep due to swollen breathing pipe.

All these symptoms naturally subside and fade (without any medication) in March beginning OR in case I happen to visit any place with totally different weather conditions. Scared of transition period from winter to summer in Ahmedabad, India.

One kind of a flying insect (of size of a tiny mosquito) that is seen (in billions) in my city around February appears to make the life really miserable, particularly when few of them manage to enter breathing system whenever breathing mask is temporarily removed to wipe clean my nostrils. These insects do not fly, but float around in the air. Once they come into contact with any surface, they walk around aimlessly and can not takeoff on their own. Probably their life span is few hours only. They are products of filth and pollution

During acute period, there is constant feeling of presence of lot of phlegm (while coughing) in the respiratory system. But can not eject the phlegm out.

Health History : I have very little experience with homeopathy or any other alternate medicines (except for Ayurved).

1. Operation to remove Tonsils at the age of 6. I have little memory of what happened before tonsil removal operation. I remember, that tonsils were swollen causing lot of pain, that I was not allowed to eat ice cream, that I was promised lots of ice cream after operation. But I was in deep pain following that operation and did not enjoy my first scoop of ice cream post operation.
2. Also there is history of respiratory problems in my family. My father has asthama. But his problem season is different. My brother' son (8yrs) was admitted (Jan, 2004) to a hospital following severe breathing problem. My daughter (9yrs) easily catches cold.
3. I was over-weight before age-6. And under weight since then (50-55kg, Height-5'9" or 172cm). Since last 2-3 years my weight is 65kg
4. Wearing glasses since the age of 13
5. By and large healthy except January-February.

Last year for the first time I had serious tryst with Homeopathy when I used internet forum of http://www.abchomeopathy.com/. There I followed prescriptions of Dr.Venugopal Gouri. Details follow,

1. Sabadilla-30 1-1-1 5 days
2. Thuja-30 1-1 7 days
3. Sulphar-30 1-1 7 days
4. Justicia mother tincture 20 drops in a cup of water 7 days
5. Senega-30 1-1-1-1 3 days (not to be taken along with Sulphar-30)

Appetite : Little less than average for an Indian

Food prefer : Pure vegetarian, Sweet, spicy

Food averse : Tasteless, bitter

Thirst : Approx-4 Ltr of water daily

Stools : Once or twice a day. Yellow/Brown in color. Typical odor. Little bit of constipation during Jan-Feb.

Urin : On an average every 2 hours. Light yellow color. Typical odor. Do not need to get up for urination when sleeping.

Hair : I have inherited baldness. Myself approx 25%. My father (70yrs) is 90% bald. Grand father was 75% bald when he expired at 84yrs age.

Sweat : Sweat during summer (Indian) months and heavey work. Average foul odor. I maintain approx 2000 SqFt of garden on my own.

Sleep : Duration 8-9 hours with couple of interruptions lasting few minutes. Occassionally sleepless nights. Half an hour rest/nap in the afternoon.

Dreams : Not very frequent. Never care to remember or think about them afterwards.

Personality : Careful, stuborn. Indecisive nature. Often confused before taking decisions. Occassionally spend sleepless nights thinking insignificant issues.

Hobbies : Reading newspapers, gardening, treking, traveling. Like to visit / invite family members (even distant), neighbours and friends.

Job : I work as a computer programmer. But work at room temparature without air conditioning.

Ketan, Two things come to mind when I read. You have a regular allergy, and an increased condition that is very severe at certain times.

Non bad times with allergy sneezing could be ARSENICUM ALBUM, and another is AMBROSIA. Natrum Sulph has a lot of sneezing and discomfort that resembles a cold.

When things are bad with all the little tiny bugs, This would be the time to use APIS M. to relieve and protect yourself from the swellings that may be life-threatening. (the throat)

Get in 200X (or around), and keep on hand. Take ARS A. twice a day when going into the sneezing conditions. The other to try would be the Ambrosia.

Then when things really get bad, use the APIS regularly, at least once or twice a day.

Read the posting titled "How to Convert." I wrote a bunch in there about how to use remedies for a length of time.

Blessings, Sabra

Dear sabra,

Thanks for suggestions. I remember you, Dr. Venugopal, John Stanton, shamid contributed when I posted in Feb-04. They tally with your suggestions last February. I have already got them with me. Currently, I do NOT have any problems/symptoms. The only reason for posting my story on the forum is that, Dr. Venugopal Gauri asked me to do so well before onset of my problem season. It looks like he is no more active on this forum. Bad luck for me.

Ofcourse, if other experts take interest to suggest something to STOP the trouble itself, I shall be really greatful. I wish trouble does NOT arise at all during transition phase from winter to summer.

Thanks.

your case is peculiar, and it is interesting to solve peculiar cases.

Let me study your case in detail.I will come back in a few days.

This is complicated case. This is a case which needs atleast two to three hours sitting with patient.

1st Option is: visit my clinic, if you are near to me. Don't worry about consultation fee and medicinal charges.

2nd option is: Where are you, we will refer you near by homeopath

3rd option is: I will take print out of this thread and study it in my off time. whenever I would be free. Evaluate symptoms and suggest you a remedy but again if that remedy does not work then you will not blame on me because that remedy would be based on your provided data which could be wrong because you accessed the sign/symptoms yourself and not me. May be I would take your case in some other way when you will meet me personally.

I think, choice 2nd is best.

Dear Dr.Mas,

Thanks for your offer to see me personally. Ever though, both of us live in Gujarat, we live in different countries. Just had a look at your website. Impressive list of qualifications.

As for second option, I know there are few popular homeopaths in my city. But sadly, they do not give prescriptions. They simply give prepared pills in bottles without letting a patient know its contents. For me, this is dreadful proposition. I do ***NOT*** intend to offend anyone, but in my humble opinion, such practice is gross lack of accountability.

I think third option is a batter choice, wherein you would study my case and suggest remedies. Probably I would be violating etiquette of this forum, if I use it to seek out private consultations (no matter how well intentioned it may be). Moreover, private consultation would obviously rule out critical points of views that are essential ingredients of fruitful outcome of discussions among experts.

And, blaming you (or for that matter anybody) is out of this world. It is my problem ultimately. And, solution would be mine as well, I mean my responsibility. Of course guided by expert opinions, may be concurring, may be differing.

I shall remain grateful to all those who spare their valuable time to help me. I am waiting for your guidance. I remain open for more questions/queries. I also promise to report back changes in symptoms along with remedies used.

Thanks.

Dear Dr.Murthy,

Kindly accept my apology. I did not mean to suggest that one opinion is more valuable than the other. As is the case in any forum discussing, say, software development (my field) where many experts freely comment on a topic, I browsed through few threads on this forum and requested some active members to respond. Since you had already responded, I did not mention your name.

I transgressed in over enthusiasm to find solution to those 10 days of acute trouble. Please, do take interest in my case.

I am sorry.

Thank you Murthy. Today I spent lot of time browsing through different threads like “Can You guess the name of remedy?”, “Confused Rubric” and many more.

Being a layman, I could not make out head or tail of most of it, except that I am in safe hands of senior homeopaths like Dr Mas, Dr Pankaj, Murthy, sabra, John.

Main reason for this post is to putup chronological sequence for last troublesome period, and changes observed.

- 18/1/2004 Allergens appear. First sign of deterioration noticed. Putup case details on forum of abchomeopathy

- 5/2/2004 Dr. Venugopal responds advising SABADILLA-30 1-1-1 for 5 days beginning next day.

- 8/2/2004 Report following on abc forum “Very little sneezing, Constant feeling of presence of lot of phlegm (while coughing) in the respiratory system. But can not eject the phlegm out, Can have sound sleep”

- 11/2/2004 Dr. V advises THUJA-30 1-1 for 7 days

- 18/2/2004 Notice increasing trouble over 2 weeks, although I feel batter compared to previous years. Report following on abc forum “Phlegm in the respiratory system. Itching in eyes still occures occassionally, prompting continuous rubbing. Probably this is due to the small insect falling in eyes, thereby releasing some chemical from their body.” Dr. V advises SULPHUR-30 1-1 for 7 days AND JUSTICIA MOTHER TINTURE 20 drops in a cup of water at bed time for 7 days

- 22/2/2004 On 3rd day of last prescription, acute trouble starts (running nose with colorless discharge, sneezing, coughing, swollen breathing pipe, disturbed sleep, itching eyes).

- 23/2/2004 Report following on abc forum “Running nose and sneezing, Disturbed sleep (although it was not severe anaphylactic shock), When I go to bed phlegm accumulates on one side of the respiratory system. Followed by relatively peaceful sleep till I change my side, when breathing (particularly breathing-out) becomes very slow and strenuous process till phlegm settles on the other side following couple of sneezing, Itching in eyes prompting continuous rubbing, which infact does NOT help” Dr. V advises to stop Sulphur-30 and start with SENEGA-30 in its place.

- 27/2/2004 No respite from acute trouble (ofcourse its intensity got reduced compared to previous years). Report on abc forum.

- 28/2/2004 Dr. V advises stopping all remedies and consultation with qualified ENT Surgeon for investigation. Visit a senior ENT Surgeon on the same day and report following findings on abc forum
- Inflamation of turbinates POSITIVE (YES)
- Nasal polyps inflamed, enlarged NEGATIVE
- Deviated nasal septum POSITIVE (YES towards left)
- Tenderness of sinuses NO
- Inflamation of pharynx YES
- Evidence of post nasal drip YES
The ENT Surgeon said it is allergic trouble for which he did not have any cure. Prescribed following as relief measure.
- Tab Droxyl-500 1-1 5 days
- Tab BZon-05 1-1 5 days
- Tab Neoloridin in the evening 5 days
- Tab Alegra in the morning 5 days
- Sinulast nasal drops 2-2 drops thrice a day 5 days

- 28/2/2004 (Evening) In the absence of any advise (and also out of desperation) start with above allopathic prescription. Get relief following first dose. Sound sleep.

- 29/2/2004 Report changes on abc forum.

- 4/3/2004 Followup visit to ENT Surgeon. Back to normal life. After examination, doctor says that probably allergens that trouble me are no longer there and advises to stop further medicines. Also Dr Venugopal advises to contact him well before onset of next season, when he will advise further remedies.

On the whole, I believe that Feb-Mar, 2004 was comparatively much less troublesome season compared to earlier years.

When you put your mail at top of list, I read entire your posts. In my opinion, Dr.Venugopal Gouri took lot of pain on your case analysis. If those remedies are not worked for you then in my opinion, in your case we should emphasize on single symptom i.e. "Periodicity - Annually" and link rest of your symptoms with this symptom. We call this method "Giving Weightage" to peculiar symptom.

I believe, Ars, Naja, Cench, Lach, Iod, Allium Cep, Ars Iod, Sab, Dulc, Gels are closer remedies.

Thuja as an intercurrent remedy would be more appropriate.

But above all, more important is, you should be remain under observation for daily consultation (or laps of two or three days) with homeopath which is not possible at forum.

Today I received an email from Dr. Mas permitting to putup his advise on this forum. Since he does not visit this forum often, I shall continue to report changes in symptoms directly by email.

I got in touch with Dr. Mas through this forum. I own it to users of this forum to post case history. Just in case, it could be of any help to someone (including me!)

Current Status :

I have taken following homeopathy preparations.

1. Bacil 200 single dose on 10th Jan, 05.

2. From 14th to 23rd Jan, 05 taken 3 doses (on empty stomach) daily of Quillaja Saponaria 3x

3. I am able to rinse nostrils thrise a day. For that I use a Yoga procedure known as "Neti" whereby liquid enters from one nostril and goes out from the other.

I am leading a normal life for now. No sneezing, coughing , phlegm, etc. However, it is just the beginning of my problem season (Jan-end to Mar-beginning). Worst is yet to come (Feb middle to end) when allergens would appear in huge numbers.

Thank you,

Since past three days, allergens (small insects) have appeared in big numbers. Midway through trouble period. I am not using any kind of mask to cover nose.

Still leading normal life. Bit irregular in nose rinsing. Feeling complacent, and happy.

Thanks a lot.

Glad to hear the news.Hope you will get through the season, without any trouble.

But,don't be complacent.Follow Dr.Mas's directions properly. You are so lucky to have him treat you.

Keep posting.

bandarbabu2000 last decade
Yeah. Thank you. I must shake off complacency. With some adjustment in office work, I can manage three rinses against five suggested by Dr. Mas. I am lucky indeed.

Once, my immediate problem is solved, next issue on agenda is to understand how such a phenomenal change in a person’s body response against changing weather condition can be achieved? Looks like, Dr. Mas has cracked keys to my physical (or mental or both) self. I remember reading somewhere, that in homeopathy patient is advised medicines after doctor gets handle on patients inner self (physical as well as mental). And because of that, many undesirable conditions (ailments) can possibly be cured using same particular homeopathic medicine.

It is mystery for me.

- Bhatt

ketan_bhatt last decade
That is a wrong but popular concept. No man on earth was cured with a single homeopathic medicine, and will ever be.

What you need is a medicine to suit your 'present altered state'.After sometime, you may have a different problem and need a different medicine.

So,don't loose sleep over, these theoretical aspects.

Keep posting once in a while.
