The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Menorrhagia,Mettorhagia, pleas help! Dont want hysterectomy.

Greetings,

Iam in dire need of help, from anyone who may be able to give me some homeopathic solutions.

Here is my history:

1. Im 36, 1 10 year old girl (vaginal natural birth) 1 13 month old girl, (emergency c section for fetal distress). Both healthy pregnancies. Happily married. Stressing over money, but happy.

2. Menorrhagia began 6 months after the birth of my first child. No organic cause found. Diagnosed as anovulation and given birth control pills. The pills controlled my bleeding then I went off them. Had heavy but regular periods after this for a few years.

3. Menorrhagia returns, where bleeding lasted more than ten days, up to 14. I began taking birth control pills again to get regular, but suffered a strange mild itching all over, so I stopped that. I took a regimen of iron, in all different forms. Liquid, Floridix, pills, but Iron cause great intestinal distress. I began taking NSAIDS at each Menses, and that seemed to not only help the sharp cramping, but lighten the bleeding, bringing my periods into a very normal range of 5 to 7 days. Since then I used NSAIDS and remained regular until I became pregnant with my 2nd.

4. After my C section, I had worse cramping with onset of period. I never felt ovulation pain before, but began to feel this too. My periods came each month for five months, regular. They were so crampy and heavy. So I treated this with NSAIDS again. It seemed to do the trick.

5. Then I began to skip periods. I skipped an entire month of July 2004 and September 2004. When my period returned, it came at the end of October 2004, very heavy and crampy... didnt stop for 10 days. After it stopped for a week, I began a light spotting each day for another week, then went right into another heavy long Menses! Then my moods began to get bad. I would be fine one day, the next in a hateful short mood. I felt like I was being stabbed with daggers all over, I felt so irritable with everything. Then I go completely weepy and cry for a day or 2.

6. Once again, No organic cause could be found. So they put me on Alesse Birth Control pills. They make me itch terriably all over my body. I feel sick all over. I feel very angry with my body, and tired of seeing blood. I do yoga to try to relax. The brand of pills was switched to desogen. I itched all over my body on those as well. The pills will control and stop the bleeding, its the itchy that is intolerable.

7. I was told if I cannot control my bleeding, Iam looking at a D & C or possible Hysterectomy, which of course terrifies me. So my mood over the holidays feels so spoiled due to all of this stress with my body.

8. I was told to finish off this pill pack, regardless of itching, then to go off of it. Iam scared that when I do, I will begin to bleed heavy again, for a long time.

9. I began a regimen of Iron on Monday 21st,2004, and Vitamin A, 25,000 IU. I wanted to give my body a boost to hopefully counteract the weakness I may feel when I begin to bleed again.

10. With no organic cause, and a normal pap smear, I would like to take a homeopathic that is strong enough to control my heavy bleeding, and regulate me.
Iam feeling so very anxious right now. I can't even sleep well because I know when I stop the pill, I will be facing this. Iam afraid of another surgery. Im still emotionally recovering from the emergency c section as it is.

11. Would Sepia, be a could choice for me? I feel very grateful I found this forum. I do not want to try anything without advice from someone who is more knowledgable about homeopathy than I.
Being I have no health insurance, and running out of money due to the tests and dr visits, this is a bit of my last hope, to find something helpful.

Regular Medication: Ibuprophen prn for pain. Xanax, prescribed by psychiatrist for panic attacks. I have taken this medication for 3 years after the deah of both my parents. I also see a counselor on a bi-weekly basis.

Thank you, and bless you all,

Arwen
Oh and by the way I live in the San Francisco Bay Area,California, where the weather is cold and damp feeling time to time.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Actually, after taking more time to read about Sepia, it does not describe me. Im not experiencing scanty periods. Maybe, I had confused Sepia with Sabina, because it is Sabina, which seems to hit the mark, symptomatically.

Thank you!

I have sometimes used Ipecac 1m or 10m , for the kind of conditions you describe, and its does cover the itching , also nausea but you dont mention nausea . Its too near Xmas to start a dialogue so will just list a few things.
Phos may apply if you are constantly thirsty for cold drinks- have some auburn or ginger hair , like being massaged .
Belladona might apply if the flow is dark, clotted & offensive.
Psorinum may apply if you avoid conflict, have a sweet tooth , greasy skin & feel the cold.
Try to avoid pain killers - they do the liver no good at all . Certainly avoid hysterectomy as this can sometimes shift the problem - in a different form- to the breasts.
It may be possible to use Fer Phos 3x as a boost for the system , while still taking Ipecac.
Have a good Xmas & New Year.

I know my reply isn't a homeopathic help but just something to consider. I had the same problem with menorrhagia about 5 months after c-section of my baby. Was anaemic and was found to have two small cysts and was put on proveda but to no avail. I was literally 'abandoned' by my GP who eventually termed it 'one of those things'... It left me depressed and I wasn't going to consider a hysterectomy because I was hoping for baby #2. Anyway, long story short, I was left on my own and I looked up some books (I am an alternative health believer) and bought myself a pack of shepherd's purse herb, and took 3 cooled cupfuls everyday for 2 days. My bleeding stopped on day 3. I continued at a slower pace and stopped the herbs day 4. My next cycle was regular, spot on 30 days. Am waiting to see if 2nd cycle is regular (after christmas).

Thank you for your responses!

I took the Remedy Finder questions 2 times, and both came up with a remedy of Belladonna.

I have read many good things of Shepherds Purse. Are you saying you drank a tea from tea bags?

Again, Thank you to those that responded. Happy Holidays!

Hi no, I bought the herbs and not knowing exactly the portions to take, I took about two teaspoon full in a 300ml cup of hot water and let it steep for about 10 minutes. Sometimes I let it steep until it's cold and drink it. I also add another round of hot water to the already used tea leaves and go for a second round.

I hope it works for you. Did not experience any side effects at all. I was not taking any medications at that time.

I agree that the Ferr phos is a great boost for the system, my whole family uses it from time to time. If you are anemic (aren't we all) it will pick you up.

Thank you again for your responses! Iam anemic, so I will definitely look into Fer Phos.

For Isabellesmom:

Do you begin drinking the tea at the onset of menses, or just when the flow is too heavy? Do you continue until the menses has stopped?

Thank you once again!

I was bleeding for two months non stop and when I started taking shepherd's purse, I was not sure if it was the onset or end. I think you can take it anytime, if you want to stop the bleeding that it. I also supplemented with floradix 3x a day. I took about 20-30ml each time. Like I said, I took it for 4 days but the flow stopped on day 3. I took it for another day just to be sure. I have not taken it again since. I would suggest taking it until it stops (if that is the aim) and then for another day or two after unless you feel any side effects. I finished my bottle of floradix. I was anaemic too.

Sheperds purse is the homeopathic remedy Thlaspi Bursa Pastoris and is a classic remedy for matters relating to the womb. It was discovered by the people who believed in the doctrine of signatures . IE ; that Nature points to remedies in a certain way. T.B. Pastoris is shaped like a uterus or womb and has been used in that connection for many years .
If you want to use TB Pastoris then use the 6x potency 3 times a week for a complete menstrual cycle- stsrting at the end of a cycle. And do take a look at Fer Phos 3x or 6x .
