Caution about arsenicum album

Here let me give you a word of caution.Beginners are apt to give arsenicum too soon.If this is done,they only hasten the troubles that they are endeovoring to prevent.Arsenic is an excellent remedy when indicated,a dangerous one when misused.I there fore say,'do not give it early in the course of typhoid affections,unless the symptoms clearly call for it.'

It should not be used in patients with very low vitality even if the characteristic symptoms of the remedy are present as it may produce rapid death without pain.

I want to warn you against the too promiscuous use of arsenic in the summer complaints of young babies,for dysentry and cholera infantum.It has so many little symptoms that are so common to these complaints that if you do not look out and are not warned you will be likely to give your patient arsenic,suppress some of the symptoms,changing the aspect of the case so that you cannot find a remedy for it and yet not cure that case with arsenic.
