Hicups in the ear

My 5 yr old has been complaining of "hiccups" in his left ear.

Wednesday:
Saw a funny/scary children's play, ate a quesadilla, and rode in the car alot
Says "I had a hiccup in my ear!"
A couple hours later watched a movie w/ alot of friends, ate popcorn
Got extremely quiet/non-responsive
Lying down in odd places, in the midst of a lot of people
Pressing face or ear to the floor/couch
An hour later, at home:
Felt alot better
Said that his ear and tummy both felt "funny" and "bad"
(Ear still hiccuping throughout)
Ate a bunch of frozen strawberries
Threw up alot (once)
Immediately felt great
Took a very enjoyable warm bath
Has felt fine ever since
But the ear is still hiccuping!

Tuesday (the day before) I had tried to get a bunch of wax out of his ear with H2O2 (not effective enough) and with a little tool, which was traumatic to him (scary), I finally quit.

I'm not too worried, just thought this was so interesting. Is this a case that might point us to a remedy he needs?

Thanks!
Guess ears are the thing at my house.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
This seems to be a temporary phenomena due to wax in the ear. Take your child to an ENT consultant. He will remove the wax.

In the mean time you can try Kali Mur 3x, 4 pills three times a day.

Good Luck.

If it IS ear wax the best remedy is Kali Carb. Remarkable results.

It could also be a silent ear infection. If there is no pain or fever Give Petroleum to clear the Eustachian tube between the throat and ear. This can cause a clicking sound. (homeopathic Petroleum)

Children do well with 200X or near.

I have also read that a few drops of H. Peroxide will be of help.

Do not use what they call "sweet oil" in the ear for now. It is only olive oil. It would be better if no oils were used. Clear fluids are called for here.

Another thing you may try is to teach your son to gargle. This will have to be done with something pleasant.

Glass of warm water with a tablespoon of Karo Syrup would be easier to use to teach him. Oddly enough the syrup is useful to clear the throat and is healing. (no, not maple syrup...maybe honey)

Avoid acting upset. Use this as a "teaching to find out clues" so the child will be in touch with his body in the future.

Thanks, both of you!
He does have *alot* of ear wax, has for years (the hiccups are gone, tho).
Will the Kali Carb deal with the sound, or will it actually get out the earwax?
It will be a few wks before I can buy more remedies, but I do have the Kali Carb in the 30c. How often should I give it to him- the same as the Kali Mur reccomendation?

Thanks for the help!

I would only give the Kali Carb once and watch how he does. It works well. There may be an interesting emotional symptom with it. This is good and short-lived. Give on Friday so he will not be in school.

I gave him the Kali Carb today (he's not in school) and will continue to watch him. The only emotional change I've seen today is a greatly increased inability to focus and follow thru on tasks.

Thanks!

HI. I still notice no change in the ear~ *maybe* a little powdery wax coming out- not sure if I saw that there before. But the big chunks remain inside.

Any suggestions?
THanks! Rebecca

Sounds like a little boy!

There is a little rubber bulb especially to clean out the ears of wax in the pharmacy.

The package will tell you what liquid is best to use.

Use a small towel on his shoulder, he is standing straight up and when squishing into the ear, it comes out rapidly and the towel catches the liquid and hopefully the wax.
