Recurring Mild Thrush in 4 year old daughter

Dear Doctor,

My 4 year old daughter(20kgs) is getting recurrent episodes of mild oral thrush (a few white spots here and there on her cheeks and/or palate and/or lips, whenever she is having fever or cold/cough. This is happening for the past 3 months (Feb09 to till date). It is responding to DAKTARIN gel and clears in 2-3 days.

For the period of Jan08 to Nov08, she was on 8 different courses of antibiotics for one reason or the other . Fedup of giving her antibiotics , i have now shifted to homeopathy recently (last month). The homeopathy doctor has given her Kalium Bichromium 200ch for 1 week to resolve the thrush.

what i want to know is, is oral thrush common in children her age who has had repeated courses of antibiotics?

How can i prevent the oral thrush in future?

Should i do some further tests to rule out immunodeficieny and diabetes?

Please help......
Thanks,
Jaya

Hi Jaya,

How frequently are you giving Kali Bichchromium 200c to her?

Please talk more about behaviours, food craving/aversions, other issues, weather preferences, modalities, what makes it worst?

Doctor,

I am giving her Kali BiChr 200ch 3 times a days , after food, 4 pellets each.

behaviour : she is a normal active 4 year old, maybe slightly hyperactive when guests are around.

food cravings/aversions : she likes dosa and sambhar the most and also biriyani, otherwise, no particular cravings or aversions that i have noticed.

weather preferences : nothing specific, she is active both in winter and summer. we live in the UAE.

she gets this mild thrush only when her immunity is down like when she is having fever.....

please help doctor.
why is my child getting this recurring problem ....?

Any changes after Kali Bich doses. I would recommend to stop dosing her. This is not the way these medicines are given and 200c to begin with is very high potency. Same potencies should not be repeated frequently.

Please also list any other allopathic medications given to her. Any other conditions that aggravates/ameliorates this condition.

Doctor,

kali biChromium (200 ch) course ends today (10-May-2009). I was advised to start it on 3-May-09 and continue for a week.
The thrush has not gone completely. She was having only a mild thrush to begin with, one spot on the uvula, one on the hard palate, some specks on her cheeks....for the past 1 week, they are coming and going....but not disappering comepletly. I brush her teeth twice and make her gargle warm salt water at night before bed. I also give her home made curd.
The homeopathy doctor has asked to start 'Sepia Officinalis 30ch' from tommorrow onwards (3 pellets each in the morning and then at night , after food).

As mentioned earlier , from Jan08 to Nov08 she prescribed various antibiotics for one thing or the other.....
Then from Dec08-Feb09, no antibiotics was given except for maybe fever medicines like Calpol 6/Adol Suppository/Voltaeran Suppository......

Then sudenly in Feb09, she had a slight fever for 2 days and the developed this thrush......
First she was prescribed Nystatin for 5 days, after 2 days , her fever came back and the thrush also increased, so Nystatin was stopped and she was given DAKTARIN gel. Thrush cleared on the 2nd day of application, but i completed the course of 5 days.

Then again in Mar09 end, she got fever again....and the her doctor presecribed antibiotics on the 4thday, after 2 days she developed thrush, antibiotics was stopped and i was asked to apply DAKTARING gel for 10 days. Thrush cleared compeltely.

She started school (KG1) in Apr09, and towards end of the month, she developed, cold and high fever.....this time i decided to try homeopathy instaed....and still she developed thrush on 5th day of fever.....She was precribed (Pustilla for 3 days, Antimonium Tartaricum for 3 days, Belladonna for 2 days and Rhus toxichodendron for 1 week). once Rhus Tox course was completed, the the doctor prescribed Kali BiChr for 1 week... and now Sepia. During the fever, i had giving her fever medicines like Capol 6/Brufen....as the homeopatghy medicine for fever is not available in the UAE......and when i felt that the thrush was begining to spread or so i apply DAKTARING gel.....and i disappers only to come back again after a day or two.....

All 3 times, she got the thrush, when she was having fever....the first 2 times i had compledted the course of DAKTARING gel and it had cleared.....this time the thrush is persisting even after fever is gone......but this time i am trying homepathyn and am not applying DAKATARING gel frequently......i am confused....dont know what to do.....

Doctor, will Sepia Officinalis cure my child from thrush...?
Please help.....Should i do further tests....?
Is thrush common in her age...? Please answer.....

Please stop all homeopathic medications she is taking currently. This is not the was you take these medicines and on top of it your homeopath is prescribing blindly. Same potencies are not supposed to be repeated for these long. I would stay away from this homeopath. He is not prescribing correctly. Your daughter's case is complicated based on the treatment she went through along with taking remedies mentioned. I would suggest you consult a more senior member on this Forum. Please post your case to Dr Sameer Vermani's attention. If he has time, he might take up your case.
