hypnic jerks

I have had severe sleeping issues for 5 months. Every time I drift off to sleep, I get these 'hypnic jerks' where some part of my body jolts me awake and doesn't let me go to sleep. There are times when I am able to get to sleep without the jolts, but then I wake up every hour, sometimes after only 15-20 minutes of sleep. I have been getting 3-4 hours of sleep most nights. I have tried several remedies (ignatia amara, pulsatilla) but what seems to have helped has been sulphur (30C). The thing is that it doesn't always help. There have been several times where I will take it when I am getting these jolts, and I am able to get to sleep soon after, and then there have been a few times where it did not seem to help. My question is, is this a coincidence or would it be helping every single time if it was actually effective? Should I be trying a different dosage? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks
