potency. what is 6c, 30c, 15x, 16x etc?
Hi guys,I am confused on the description of some pills like:
Alumina.
Bryonia.
Anacardium
Nux vomica
Omega 3 Supplements
There is something coming as potency and is described by numbers like,
6C, 30C, or even 15X, 16X etc. What is it?

Potency here describes the strength of the medicine. X and C are different scales of potency/strength. The differences are related to preparation, and how close the preparation is to material dose i.e dilution of medicinal substance in the medicine carrier(either distilled water or alcohol).
In decimal scale the scale goes up as : 1x, 2x...6x and 24x. (Here maximum is 200x)
The X implies here that the medicine is 1 part in 10 parts of med. carrier.
In Centecimal scale the scale goes up as: 1c, 2c....30c. (Here maximum is CM and occasinally MM)
Here the C implies that the medicine is 1 part in 100 parts of med. carrier.

So as the scale goes up, the dilution ratio increases exponentially; the physical/material dosage decreases; and the healing property of the medicinal substance increases.

I believe you wanted to know the difference between 1M and 200c. Among these two, 1M is higher potency as 1M is equal to 1000c.

Hello Maheeru, Thanks for ur reply...since i am not a homeo practioner..this info will help...I have seen my doctor mentioning 200M..is he referring to 200C..can u tell me how much is least potency and how much is maximum potency..Is it 30C least and 1M is maximum.

You'll have to check with your doctor if what he/she refers to is 200c or 200M. 200c is the widely used potency and is a lesser potency compared to 1M i.e 1000c.
But on the other hand if the potency indeed is 200M(which case is very rare) then this would be the higher potency compared to 1M. (200,000 C is higher than 1000c).

A: In C scale 1c is the least and as i've mentioned in earlier posts, CM(i.e 100,000c or 100M) is maximum by convention. Very rarely potencies are prepared beyond CM, in that case they can extend up to MM(1000 times of 1M or 10 times of CM).
So coming to your specific doubt, yes 30c is smaller potency compared to 1M.

Thanks Maheeru, last week i did a post in the same forum regarding panic attack, anxiety and claustra phobia problem which i have when i travel in flight or take lift which has to go to 10th floor and above....doctor suggested to take Rescue Remedy Bach flower...can u suggest how do i ask the homeo pharmacist in Bangalore, India to give me the combination of 5 medicine...should i ask for drops or as pellets? what should be the potency of this 5 (Rock rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem, Cherry Plum), wait for your reply.

what you refer to is Bach flower essence or Bach flower remedy. They are a bit different from Homeopathic remedies and they don't come in different potencies like homeopathic remedies do. They come in only one standard potency so no need to worry about potency related details.
So you can just ask for 'Rescue Remedy' in any homeo pharmacy in India (It's a very popular Bach flower remedy and you don't need to tell them the 5 ingredient remedies too). Mostly they come in liquid drops, but they are also available as pellets. It doesn't matter what you get. Use 4 drops or 4 pellets for a dose. You can use it as frequently as you feel it necessary to reduce anxiety.
Alternatively you can also put 4 drops or pellets in 30 ml of water in a small bottle and you can sip through your flight or your elevation to the top of the building.

Thanks Maheeru....I checked the with Pharmacy here in Bangalore..he has the 5gm pellets....this discussion is going real interesting....i have 2 more problems..one is nasal polyps and second is wheezing...can we continue on this thread or should i post a new post to seek your help..thanks a ton...
