To Control Overeating?

I am really reluctant to try 'conventional' diet pills/appetite suppressants because I'm pretty sure they are either bogus or dangerous, so is there some sort of homeopathic approach to 'stop the madness?'

I get ridiculously ravenous and feel compelled to eat whatever I can lay my hands on. Only when I am 'really working' with my mind and hands and body fully occupied do I 'forget' about food. Strangely enough, I often get sick when I eat too much. I don't eat beef, chicken, or pork because I can't keep them down. I do eat fish, eggs, and dairy, and vegetables, of course, but I have a huge sweet-tooth and this is the craving I usually obey most consistantly. Any ideas? Calcarea Carbonica?

Arg.N and Sulphur come out on top. Since you seem familiar with homeopathy read these two medicines in the materia medicas and select the one which has a better fit to you.

Start with a low potency like 6c and try for a couple of days.

Well, neither ArgN or Sulphur really describe me. I am new to this whole homeopathy thing, really, and am just really confused by all the possible remedies. I guess it is hard to diagnose a person unless you really ask them a lot of detailed questions. It doesn't seem like anything fits me 100%, especially regarding attitude. So, do you just look for something that 'mostly' applies or something that is specific to the most troubling problem?

In homeopathy we come closer to the useful remedy when we analyse the totality.

The desires and aversions are just a part of the totality.

Mental, emotional, physical symptoms complete with their modalities of aggravation and amelioration, your thermal preferences, your past history all play a role in selection of the remedy.

It is difficult to do it yourself. Better to consult a good homeopath in person.

Does whatever you eat show on you or do you look as if you havent eaten in last 3 months?

Iodium, Calc Carb and Tuberculinum come to my mind. Pl read them up and see if you come close to any one of them.

This sort of habit, will never respond to superficial prescribing. You will need to clinch the mental/emotional essence in the case along with the general symptoms and peculiar symptoms if any in order to get to the right remedy.

Ask yourself, as to why you have to eat constantly, what is the feeling which compels you to eat. What is it you try to assuage on the mental plane through this ravenous eating.

When did this problem start ? What was happening in your life at that time ?

Also, what is it that you would like to change in yourself as a person ?

And, any fears, anger, resentments, you have must be mentioned in detail. Also a general picture of your temperament and everyday behaviour will help.

Whatever I eat DOES show on me.
Without putting everything on here, and not to self-promote, but my blog is here under(daisygreenfield at the wordpress site) and my disposition and state of mind are all documented, including physical traits.

Stress is my main issue. Serious stress...and it has been a life-long state of being. My dad is a veteran of war with untreated post-traumatic stress disorder. Even as a child it was stressful. The only time I have ever been 'healthy' as far as eating goes was about 11 years ago when I was married. Security was the key. Marriage crumbled, so back to where we started. I used to be an athlete, and ate like a horse, but it balanced out. Now, no matter how much I exercise, the weight does not budge. Very discouraging, so I stop exercising. Right now debt is my main stressor, with no real end in sight. If I had the money to go see a homeopath, I would, but I don't, hence why I am here looking for help with the problem.

Anyway...any further advice/help would be gladly appreciated.

so many views, so few replies...but I have to say, I ran across the 'stress care kit' offered on this site and each of the three remedies have a significant amounts of my symptoms, when I really think about it. Obviously, I need to destress. I think I will try this, but I don't know if the remedies come with instructions on how to take them?

geez... I don't know if the OP is still around but this sounds exactly like me!!... like to the letter!!... The traumatized dad, the sensitivity to all meats except seafood..

I wonder if she had any success.

As for myself I am a lycopodium, and my constitutional has at times been able to curve my eating compulsions. I am just always at a loss for which potency to use.

Anybody have any other suggestions?
