Veterinary Homeopathic Question - Important

Hi there,

My dog is 12 years old and has been sick for a while. She also has a very pronounced asymptomatic heart murmur.

About 9 months ago, she got a batch of poisoned dog food. She had major diarrhea and lethargy. I stopped her on the dog food and began cooking for her (rice w/turkey or chicken). The vet treated her with various things that didn't work. Finally we treated with flagyll (possibly for Giardia - 2 rounds) and she had improvement.

Since then, her stomach has never been the same. She still cannot eat regular dog food. And she has gastro 'episodes' where she's up all night (in pain) and needing to go out. Sometimes she's just fine w/out pain, but has poop that is very 'loose/mucousy'. She's also had two subsequent UTI's which I treated with antibiotics.

I've also treated her with Aur Met for her heart murmur too over the last few months.

I'm convinced that the original incident is still not clear - since that's when everything changed. Is there anything I can do to help her? She's suffering and needing to go out every few hours. I'm also exhausted from not having slept a full night sleep in a long long time...

Any help is truly appreciated!!!

Thanks.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. How do you recommend I administer it? She's a small (18 lb.) dog. Should I put it in her water? Put it under her tongue? Please let me know.

And thanks again!

In case of pills, put it under tongue. In case of liquid put it in water and give.

Hi,

I am not a vet but it sounds like she might have pancreatitis. This can be diagnosed with an abdominal ultra sound and blood work. Home cooking for dogs is tricky because one has to supplement to fill their nutritional requirements.
Chronic UTIs can also be a sign of an underlying problem such as an immune system suppressing disease (Cushings, diabetes etc) that will be reflected in the blood work you have done (elevated liver enzymes like ALK PHOS, ALT for cushings and blood glucose for diabetes). Does she have other clinical signs?
Also with extensive use of anti biotics for the UTI, make sure you give her some pro biotics to encourage good bacteria. You can get them in capsule form if you want to avoid fat in yogurt, kefir etc.

Good luck!

Sorry, one more thing, pancreatitis usually occurs idiopathically, for unknown reasons) but in cases where the reason is known, it is most probably due to ingesting a bad meal, like in your dogs case or raiding the garbage where the human has thrown out something of high fat content. This can bring on a pancreatitis attack. When visualised on a US, it shows as scarring in the pancreas. An ultra sound will also show you if the intenstine is enlarged, or there is thickening of the wall, which might lead to a diagnosis of IBD (irritated or inflamed bowel disease/syndrome).
If you continue to cook, use skinless chicken/turkey breast and over cook the rice so it is easier to digest.

Thanks for all of the suggestions from everyone.

I treated her with the Pulsatilla and am starting the Cratageus Q. She was okay for a couple of days but now has mucous in her stool again and is needing to go out very frequently.

Someone else on the forum suggested this sounds like pancreatitis. I'm going to take her in for some more tests to confirm what's really going on. In the meantime, is there anything else I can do? Should I give her some more Pulsatilla? Or a different remedy? I'm just very concerned that she seems to be back-sliding here even though we'd worked out of these 'episodes' before.

Any other suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks!

please give her 1 pellet each of the following tissue salts four times a day at a gap of 3 hours for 15 days.
natrum sulph 6x
kali mur 6x
natrum phos 6x

You may give her three doses of Pulsatilla 200c at a gap of 4 hours after 2 days only for one day. Please don't give tissue salts on that day and resume salts thereafter. Please don't give Puls if she does well on tissue salts.
