Pancreatic Tumor Page 2 of 3

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
sad that my words keep getting misunderstood and twisted re tumours - I will not continue to explain but I did not say the extra cancer cells 'produce' insulin directly as implied.... I get the message and will back off. My thoughts are with your and your dear dog and I know you are in good hands with Astra and Namastes advice. Take care, erika

Her mornings are better for her, possibly because the meds are at lower levels in her body. I am decreasing her thyroid meds, I think she is on too high a dose. She won't eat the bones but rather hides them so I may try to boil them and give her the broth?? Thanks for the encouragement and advice. You are right, I want her to be happy for however many days she has left. For whatever reason, be it meds or illness, she is not happy now. I will try today to see if the thyroid is agravating her system or if it is the prednisone. Thanks again so very much!

Namaste-very wise words!

(Maggie-following them is the best choice. Although you are probably panicky right now try to be relaxed around her).
Please post at least every day.
We love animals and really care.

If she will not eat the bones, try to give her raw beef rib bones, marrow bones, chicken necks or backs, because they are smaller. Dogs instinctively bury them so they rot and taste yummy weeks later. It is like culturing a bone.

Please do not boil the bones and try other avenues first.

Also, if she is hiding them because she is territorial, feed her separately, in a room or outside where she can be with the bone and know it is hers. There is no harm in giving your other animals the bones. You will see them have the whitest teeth ever.

Contact your local butcher, slaughter house, or grocer and see if they will work out any deals with you. Chicken backs, necks, slaughter house bones, etc. are all waste and get sent to the rendering facility where they get turned into a boiled chemical slop called dog and cat food.

take it day by day or moment by moment and know that her symptoms and behaviors are clues as to what she wants, needs, or does not want.

And I just want to share why I have the outlook I do about taking it day by day to live the best quality of life.

Both my grandma and Aunt, two dynamic, strong-willed, beautiful women were diagnosed with deadly forms of cancer. They took the allopathic route and if their wounds were not draining from surgery, then they were combating tremendous sickness from chemotherapy. They spent 2 years like this, in hell, heavily medicated, miserable, suffering, and being kept alive by drugs and surgery. In the end, each of them passed on, which ended their suffering. My aunt ended up starving for she was unable to eat and slowly dying because of the cancer she had and my grandma was in and out of coma and surgery for weeks and weeks and weeks and died from complications of pneumonia.

One has to wonder how bad their suffering would have been had they taken a more natural approach and lived out their days doing what they wanted to do, instead of being at the mercy of the doctors who's goal was to keep them alive. Not healthy, but alive, because they saw cancer as the enemy. Cancer is a symptom of a break down of the immune system, it is really a "late messenger" when you look at the whole picture.

I have nothing against doctors or surgeons, they do what they are taught, I just feel they are not always the answer. The body can only take so much. I would rather have one more healthy day of a happy life than 1 more year of a sick and miserable life. To each their own.

Blessings to all,
NAMASTE

How are you both doing?

I have tapered her off to 10 mg of steroid a day and her apetite has decreased. She is also now constipated. I am giving her pumpkin by putting it on her paws so she will lick it off. Any ideas to help her bowels move. She is urinating fine and she is drinking water. Help!

maggiemae last decade
Mix some honey with the pumpkin to sweeten it a bit and make it more palatable. Mix some flax seeds in some cottage cheese and feed this to her daily, even if you have to scoop a bit into her mouth via your fingers. Flax seeds are great for healing animals with cancer and they make everything slip and slide in the intestines. It lubricates them.

Canned salmon may loosen her up as well and the fish oil from that is great for the immune system, brain, and eyes.

Also with raw meat, bones, with any animal fasting is important. Constipation, yes, tends to make the body not want to eat, but she may be telling you as well, her system needs to rest. In the wild, animals eat when they find prey which is not all day, every day. My dogs fast in the AM, at least until noon, they get nothing. If I feed them all day, they pick at their food, get lethargic, and lose energy.

When they fast they are very hungry/ready to eat and energetic by the afternoon. You can give her some chicken broth in the AM to help her long if you choose. Many cancers and sicknesses are cured by fasting.

Nux Vomica comes to mind for the constipation/decreased appetite. I don't know what effect Nux Vomica will have on your dog, but it is good to begin a case with, I have read, especially when an animal has been on medication, as it detoxes them. No it will not interfere with her meds. I would suggest Nux Vomica 30C, one dose daily in the evening, until better.

Glad to see you are tapering her off of the steroids. As for the constipation, please provide more details about that and the lack of appetite.

Does she hang her head over the food bowl, like she is hungry, but won't eat?
Does she eat a little and gets full quickly?
Is she gassy
Bloated?

Details are important.

Urging to stool?
Unable to pass any stool?
Bowel movements incomplete?
What do her bowel movements look like? Hard, dry, crumbly? Etc.

(Note, bones can make some animals constipated and that is why pumpkin is necessary daily in their diet. Bones also make their stools drier and they crumble as well, because of the natural raw diet. That is why when my dogs take a dump, it turns to white powder by the next day. No clean-up, outside, it mulches well with the lawn mower.)

Also, please go to your local health food store or wherever you can order this asap, and put your dog on Floressence tea aka Essiac tea. Get the Floressence brand, you can brew it or it comes pre-made. Follow the instructions. This is an ancient Native American herbal tea, that cleanses the blood and has been known to cure people and animals of cancer. Yes, I have met people who are alive because of this tea. My dad's dog lived an extra year from cancer because of this tea and died from a blood clot. Who knows how long he would have lived, but he was giving his dog this tea every day.

Go on a search engine and research on how to make homemade kefir. Use organic milk or raw milk if you are able to buy this. If you type in "kefir grains", you will get a few sites that have a database where you can find people listed all over the world, who have an excess of kefir grains and are willing to give them away. Make sure you only pay for shipping, grains cost nothing to be made. They grow as kefir gets made. I just got mine last week from a lady an hour away and began making my kefir last week. Nothing like the storebrand, this is the real deal. And already I have noticed a HUGE difference in my own and my animals digestion and all of our tummies feel much, much better. WWW dot Mercola dot com talks about the benefits of kefir which are far greater than yogurt. So easy to make, please look into this, once you get going you will get the hang of it, so good for you and your dog. Intestinal health is key to overall health and it will help your pooch heal.

Please tell yourself you can do this, because you can Maggiemae, TRUST your instincts and listen to your pooch, feel her energy and know that where there's a will there's a way. This is how I learned what I know, from personal experience and from reaching out to others for help. Read, ask questions, learn, take notes, and pass it on to your loved ones. You are doing a fantastic job!

Also, Shirley's Wellness cafe is a website where you may be able to find more information on pancreatic cancers/low blood sugar/hypothyroidism. There are tons and tons of articles on alternative medicine for pets.

Have you read about granulated kelp? This contains iodine, and this is what my animals get with their meals. It should help support her thyroid because of the iodine which will help with her mood, energy, and weight.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the advice. I will get started finding the tea. Her stools are loose now, I guess due to the pumpkin. She is swollen I asume from the steroid use but is not gassy. She was trying hard to pass stool but as I said it was runny this a.m. Is Flax Seed oil the same as Flax Seeds when I use them. As far as eating she only wants meat and no rice, which would be fine except that I am afraid her blood sugar will drop because of no carbs to increase it. What about Ensure as a supplement until she begins to take more food. She is not panting as hard but has no energy. Youre kind to keep giving me advice. God Bless You.

MaggieMae

If she eats the meat and will take some kind of carb like a bit of honey in her pumpkin or meat that should suffice. If you give her rice, make sure it is brown rice. If she does not want the rice, do not panic. Most people with diabetes/blood sugar prolems can stabilize over time, once the refined carbs are removed, and supplements are added. Give her a good quality fish oil to help with this as well. Actually cod liver oil will be best for her. I am a HUGE FAN of Nordic Naturals fish oil products since they do not add Vitamins A or D to their oils. They have a website online and many health food stores carry them as well. 1/4 teaspoon daily in food.

I would avoid ensure and get her some canned Meyenburg goats milk. Super Wal-Marts, some grocery stores and health food stores carry this.

Flax seed oil comes from the seeds, it is pressed from them. Please give her the seeds only, ground if you can, or whole in cottage cheese.

That is good that her constipation resolved itself. Please post more about her lethargy and symptoms. Tired, chilly, prefers warmth, avoids the sun, likes to be massaged, does not like drafts, detail is good. Will research more.

Astra any suggestions for the lethargy from low blood sugar? Any remedies come to mind?

also, I want to see if I can help you find a constitutional remedy for your dog. Some come to mind but I need you help. What was she like before she got ill, temperment, appetite, energy, body weight, size, fur, personality and all? Details, every detail you can give helps. Previous illnesses, was she spayed? What happened prior to her getting ill? Anything in your family, or anything traumatic or emotional?

Is she a big or a small dog? Except lethargy how is she now? (there are about 50 remedies for letharrgy and only one will work!) wrie as much about her as you can.

About flaxseed oil-cottage cheese (if you want more details search "johanna budwig" German dr who discover that this simple mixture actually REVERSES many diseases such as cancer or MS.)

She personally approved oil production for BARLEAN'S- (search their website for distributors close to you)-2-4 tbs (shake well first to mix dark lignans)/cup of cheese.

I found that oil is better than seeds because
-it' s definitely less messy as you HAVE TO have the seeds ground well first (otherwise the oil in them will not react with protein in cheese!)

-you have to use much more seeds to have that much oil-esp that she has a disease.
would she eat that? With oil doggs have no problem.

One of the effect of this mixture is more energy.

Astra2012 last decade
Yep, astra is right.

go with the Barlean's flax seed oil and cottage cheese and add in 1 or 2 teaspoons of flax seeds with her food, just for fiber to keep everything slipping and sliding.

I am continueing to try the raw chicken and organ food, bones as well. She has no energy and is beginning to come in more. She was previously a very energetic dog that would spin in circles for my girls and chase them. She weighed 80 pounds and has probably gained due to the steroids. She is not a tall dog so she resembles a Hog in shape. Her coat has improved actually. Her mood now is non emotional and occasionally wags her tail. I will try to get more flax seed oil down her. I found the tea but I can't afford the $30 at this time. I will purchase it as soon as possible. Keep the advice coming and God Bless you for your help.

maggiemae last decade
Try adding some vitamin C to her food as well for her immune system/energy. Most dogs are deficient in this. I get the cheap stuff from Wal-mart, buffered and you can put it in cream cheese if need be to get her to eat it, or grind it and mix it in her food. Wal-mart also sells the cod liver oil softgels for cheap.

Now Foods makes the Essiac tea as well for cheaper if you want to go with that.
Keep up the great work and take it day by day.

Blessings to you,

It is important that the oil is ASAP and well mixed with cheese--allow about 5 min for the mixture to stand before giving it to her.

Is she still taking steroids? (they MAY cause her lethargy and weight gain - of course the cause might be different).

Please do not give her long bones from chicken-they split and their sharp ends can peforate inner wallls-I know one dog who died after eating cooked chicken bones).

She ate lunch very good yesterday, raw chicken and vitamins, but has now refused suppper, breakfast and lunch. All I could get down her is a can of cat food, which I know is not good for her but that is all she would eat in my desperation to fee her. She is depressed but should I can't make her eat. She is resting good. Any ideas on the food? Should I let her eat anything she wants at this point,ie. cat food? She has always loved cat food. I thought about trying Salmon since cat food always is so fishy but I didn't know if fish is safe for dogs, raw or cooked. Any ideas? I am desperate and afraid to leave her very long because of her not having eaten.

maggiemae last decade
I would suggest, canned salmon instead of cat food. Because there is always hope you should give her a good quality diet, right until her last days, but if she is being finicky, salmon will help. Give her variety and mix some salmon in with the raw food to help her eat. Some give their dogs raw fish, I do not.

Thanks, I'll try the Salmon. She ate about a half pound of ground turkey this p.m. but I could not get the flax seed oil down her. I may try putting it in the ground meat if that is aceptable. She is drinking plenty of water. Thanks for the continued help.

maggiemae last decade
she at some raw beef liver this a.m. and a half of can of Salmon at lunch. Do I have to limit the amount of these to meats or are they safe to feed her daily?

maggiemae last decade
Rotate foods. Raw beef liver on and off for one week, then switch to raw beef heart the next week in addition to raw chicken/beef/turkey and raw meaty bones, every day.

Basically my dogs get the raw meat and organ meat ground 3-4 times per week, and the rest of the week is raw meaty bones. They tell me what they want. If it is really hot out, they eat less, if it is cold, they eat more.

Liver is high in iron, good for energy, she may require more of it until she gets well again. As long as you do not feed her the same exact thing every single day you will be fine. Let her tell you what she is interested in eating. Salmon can be added to food whenever to get her to eat.

Flax seed oil can go with whatever protein she is willing to eat, for now. Just make sure her meals are somewhat tasty, not loaded with oils and vitamins, or she may turn her nose up. As she heals, slowly add back things like pureed veggies, goats milk, etc. so she does not lose her appetite again.

There is no perfect way to do this diet. Their meals are not hunted, they are delivered right to them. Use your wits.

Great news to hear her progress!

Blessings and light,
NAMASTE

She would not eat the raw chicken tonight but ate the raw beef liver and salmon again. I will try raw turkey in the a.m. Will the Salmon help her have a b.m.? She is having trouble again with this. She will not work on the bones but just keeps them buried and takes them away from my 130 lb passive lab. She did try to chase another dog today when I took her walking. Thanks for keeping me going with your advice.

maggiemae last decade
She is going to need calcium so if she is not eating the bones, mix raw egg yolks every other day with her food. Give her the shells as well, they are high in calcium. At some point if you find a meat grinder, you can buy whole chickens and grind them, that way she gets the calcium. Very important.

Pumpkin with honey for fiber. Puree some raw sweet potato, spinach, and parsley in a blender or cuisinart. If you don't have these use scissors and cut them real fine. She needs some raw veggies.

The vitamin C will loosen her up as well. Get whatever you can affoard. Try, every day, keep at it. Work up to bowel tolerance. Get capsules and empty them into her food or tablets and place those in cream cheese. When she gets the runs, it means she has reached her bowel tolerance of Vitamin C, then you even out/reduce the dosage. She needs this, her immune system needs this. Many alternative vets are big on this nutrient.

Day by day you are really getting the hang of it.

Keep your spirits lifted, that will be her hope. She needs your strength, she strives to make you happy, it makes her feel like she has her position still, like chasing off that dog. Write down 5 of her favorite things to do. Walk, play catch, be massaged, eat, etc. 5 things that you know to be her favorites. When and if all of these things cease, one by one over time obviously, then and only then will you know it is her time to transition or to be put to sleep. Some of the best advice I have ever learned.

Bless,
NAMASTE

How do I know how much raw meat to feed daily. She is an overweight dog at 60 lbs. but with her suposedly low blood sugar I have been feeding her three meals a day ( when she will eat them ) consisting of a rotation of chicken, livers, gizards, hearts, ground turkey and beef, canned salmon and boiled and raw eggs. I sneak in carrots when she will take them but I haven't found a vegetable she likes with her meat. I fed her two chicken thighs with 4 boiled eggs at lunch. Is this an good portion? Too much? Too small? Should I feed as much as she will take or not. She is still on 5mg of prednisone twice a day along with her thyroid meds. Thanks for any adivice!
