Fluid on Lungs, enlarged heart in pet dog
I hope it is ok to post about my pet, as I can't find anything on the pet sites. I have an almost 10 yr old healthy cock-a-poo girl that started coughing a week ago. Took to vet and said she had a rattle in her lungs and heartbeat faint, also a fever. Put her on antibiotics and Lasix to help drain fluid. Took her yesterday to re-check and still had fluid, but better. No fever, but took x-ray. Right lung has fluid and bronchial wall thickening. Heart enlarged, but no murmur or sign of heart disease. X-ray showed a spot unidentifiable near lung. Heart sounded better now, but vet worried about lung fluid and cause. She is otherwise normal, eating fine, active, sleeping. Inly thing she does is stretch her face up like she is sniffing, vet said to help her breathe. Lasix is causing her to pee all over and drip. Was hoping for a natural way to help her.yellowjonquils on 2010-03-12

Well, it doesn't seem to matter. She sleeps inside under a bed and she goes outside and lays out there. Overall, I would say she prefers warm surroundings.

Please give her Arsenicum Album 30c thrice a day at a gap of 4 hours for 3 days and see how that affects her in the next 7 days.
One dose means 4 pills or '2 drops in some water'.

Update on fluid on lungs in dog. She did see improvement last week at check-up (breathing better not so much fluid) I stopped Lasix a week ago and also the arsenicum (followed the 3 day suggestion) Seemed ok for about 5 days, but yesterday I felt she wasn't right and tonight she started coughing again.
Last x-ray showed a possible small mass in lung that may be causing the fluid. How should I proceed? Thank you for all your help

p.s. She is lifting her head up a lot especially after eating and drinking.vet says to help breathe. She now seems to want to sit outside in open air more and seems to sleep very deeply, not hear noises very well. She is still eating regularly and drinking water well.

You may wait for some time and give her ars alb 30c thrice a day for only one day and see how that affects in the next 7 days.

UPDATE: My dog has been pretty steady since my last post. I have been giving her low doses of the medicine to keep fluid down and breathing comfortable. Today she started acting weird, not wanting to walk, keeping her head low and very lethargic. I took her to vet and they did another Xray, but all looks the same. She said she sounded very crackly in lungs and she could hardly hear the heart through all the fluid. i increased her dose of pills, but am hoping to get her back to feeling better. Vet want to do an ultrasound t find root of problem. Dog is sleeping, very lethargic though I let her out to go the bathroom,,she walks slowly and gingerly, head down. She did eat some yogurt, but it now sleeping by my feet. Any suggestions?

Hi, update. I did the Arsen album and she did see a mild improvement over the weekend. But now today (monday) she seems going back in the other direction. She is having a very hard time walking, she is hunched over, I think because hard to breathe & weak from pain. Another thing she is doing is whining, and yelping occasionally, while lying still!she is lying crooked and whining right now and very restless and in pain (it seems) She has an appointment with a dog cardiologist on Wednesday, but I am very worried she may not make it. Any ideas to make her more comfortable?

You may give her another single dose of Arsenicum Album 1M.

Update: We took her to a cardiologist yesterday and it seems she has a different problem than we thought! She has a herniated disc in her neck, which is causing her to hobble and whine form pain. Also, she has a touch of bronchitis/pneumonia which is causing the heavy breathing and wheezing! of course, they have her on antibiotics (2) Prednisone (steroid) and Tramadol (pain meds) I am hoping for some holistic measures to help and counteract antibiotics/steroids. Thank you for your patience!
