This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I suggest,Now Foods brand of supplements and they have the GMP award, excellent quality control standards, and they sell the product, not the fancy packaging.

They have no outside sales reps neither which keep costs down. However if you are looking for a good fish oil/cod liver oil supplement, I would not suggest theirs. This is their down fall. Their fish oil is not PCB free. Argued many times with them about this, and received a hands up in the air response.

For fish oil, for anyone out there, Nordic Naturals is the purest and the best tasting. See if your local h. food store can get you samples. Their cod liver oil is outstanding when it comes to taste. Their fish oil is pure Norweigan fish oil and it is PCB free. They have many formulas good for anything from high cholesterol to ADD to Manic Depression to skin conditions to pregnancy, you name it. Highly recommend it and sold it to many, many customers (adults and children) when I worked at a health food store.

Blessings!

Namaste, You go girl!! We all need your info. Don't forget the Kinesiology to determinge which is best for the person. One can do it by mearly writing the name and brand down and making a statement of "it will be benificial for..."

This may be a homeopathic forum, but we need to all know more about what we are doing with our bodies. Sabra

Namaste Sabra!

Yes, Sabra is right always have a health food store employee who knows how to do kiniseology (muscle testing) or someone else who knows how to do it, test every product on you before you purchase it. It will save a lot of money in the long run. Yes, Now Foods has great priced items but for example you may not know which calcium/magnesium brand is suitable for you. So this way kiniseology could be applied thus determining which of their cal/mag supplements is suitable for you. You may also find that for example none of their cal/mags are suitable for your body or they are not the formulation your body needs. Then you would move on and have someone test you on other brands.

Remember that each one of is chemically different and everyone has their own specific regime of what will and will not work for them.

At the health food store I worked at there was a nutritionist who performed kiniseology on everyone of his clients. Sometimes he would spend an hour or more per person going through everything in the store. But in the end, he found the shoe that fit you could say, gave them their supplemental regime, and saved them a lot of money in the end.

He also believed that one could test themselves with a product in a very simple way. He would have the client stand up straight and hold a bottle of whatever product, several inches above there head and SLOWLY scan it down the front of their bodies keeping the bottle several inches away from the body all the way down as far as their arm would reach. If the person started to fall forward it meant that the person needed that supplement. If they fell backwards it meant that they did not. We are all made of energy and supplements are made of energy and you can honestly feel the pull of your body when you do this form of testing.

For the products that a person fell forward on he would have them say out loud their name and then "Needs 1 pill per day." The person would fall forward. Then he would have them say their name, "Needs two pills per day." If they fell forward he would have them count pills until they fell backwards which would show how many their body needed. If they fell backwards after saying "Needs one pill..." he knew that was all they needed.

When he saw the client again in a month or so he would have them retest with the counting to themselves and often people would test lower for number of pills they needed because their bodies had built up a level they needed.

He would also have them pay attention to where their hand was when they fell forward. Often people would start to lean forward when the bottle was by their abdominal area for digestive enzymes and acidophilus.

Everyone of us is a different size and weight and the RDA is enough so we do not get deficient in a vitamin, mineral, etc. However it is not enough to supplement what we are lacking and everyone of us is lacking in some area nutritionally. Some people are lower in calcium than others, some are lower in B-6, etc.

I believe in whole food supplements where basically you are getting your vitamins and minerals from foods, like nuts, seeds, berries, grains, etc.

I highly recommend Garden of Life products at www.gardenoflifeusa.com.

The owner is 29 years old and cured himself of Chron's disease when all other natural treatments failed. His products are pricey but you do get what you pay for. I saw him speak at a seminar and he is very knowledgeable and very impressive.

When a supplement is based from food your body pulls what it needs and utilizes it more efficently. When you take a regular vitamin supplement you can bog down your body with too much so to say. Synthetic vitamins are even worse and inadequate.

Anyways, these are all only suggestions and I offer you all the best of my knowledge and what I learned after 7 years of lots of research, working at a h. food store, and taking many, many kinds of supplements myself and healing myself of many illnesses as well.

Please note that Sabra is VERY right about making a positive affirmation before you take anything. The mind controls the body and just saying that what you are taking will work and how it will work is like putting the key in the ignition. What we put out comes back to us, that is the law of the universe.

I could talk vitamin talk all day, but I will leave you with this. I briefly touched down about fish oil in my previous e-mail. I cannot stress the importance of fish oil. Cod liver oil in the fall and winter because we are not in the sun making vitamin D and fish oil in the spring and summer. Both of these supplements contain Omega-3 which is as essential to the body as water. Unless you are eating fish 4-5 times per week or eating grass-fed meat, I strongly suggest that you take an Omega-3 supplement. I do not advocate flax oil because your body has to convert the ALA into Omega-3 and not everyone can do this. With fish oil the fish eat the algae and do this conversion for you. My own son who is you could say ADD prone and had no attention span and no concentration has made HUGE leaps and bounds by taking the Nordic Naturals DHA every day. It is strawberry flavored and he is like a new kid. He can now talk about what he did in school, he remembers everything, his motivation is incredible, his comprehension,he behaves himself and everyone tells us they cannot believe how calm and well-mannered my kids are. It is all greatly improved. His sister is on the fish oil as well, in fact they willingly ask for it because they know how much it helps them.

DHA and EPA are two components of Omega-3. The EPA works on the cardiovascular system and the DHA works on the brain and eyes. A child's brain and eyes are still developing as they grow, so that is why they greatly need this supplement.

(the kids formula is chewable and strawberry flavored. Very small softgels) I told my kids they were taking it period, no argument, and they love it! It is also strawberry flavored.

Great for adults as well. Nordic has 5 or 6 formulas with scientifc testing on some, I think their Adult DHA formula. In this formula they have concentrated the levels of DHA which work directly on the brain so it is instant medicine for the brain. It is good for depression, manic depression, OCD, pregnancy and ADD. psoriasis and eczema and arthritis(their borage and fish oil combo)heart issues, cholesterol issues (their EPA formula), you name it.

I know I am long-winded with this piece, but it is my pleasure to share it with you. Hope it helps many. There are too many sick people in this world. Life is too short, let's make the most of it. The answers are all in front of us, we just have to be willing to listen:)

(all of the above are only suggestions, not medical advice).

namaste and blessings to all!

www.swansonvitamins.com

I have been ordering from them for years; they have the best prices, best service, and quality products. A guy I work with used to order from Bronson and switched to Swanson when he found out Bronson charged 2 or 3 times as much as Swanson (sometimes even more) for the same or even inferior stuff. Puritan's Pride is also good.

Cheap vitamins:
apples, red pepper, whole grain, avocado, chicken liver, spinach, fennel.....

most arteficial vitamins don't work as good as natural ones. some don't at all. lots of them are fat-soluble and there's no point in taking a pill with morning coffee instead of breakfast. at all.

another thing: if they'ld work perfectly, think about this one:
they usually cover around 100% of your daily need. means, all the vitamins you eat with your food are a plus.
with vitamin C that's not a big deal, it'll give you diarrhea in the worst case. But things like potassium i.g. (i know it' s not a vitamin, but is included in most pills) can in worst case szenario even kill you. lots of vitamins in too high doses are really bad....

that's the world: anything in excess usually is BAD for you.

you have a deficit on some vitamin? throw them in as a natural thing. there is one or two foods for eveything, that contain a lot of what you need.

Not sure what you consider cheap or high. Garden of Life was recommended on here. They are great. I also like Source of Life, from Natures Plus. They are made from whole food concentrates, and are so gentle, they can be taken on a empty stomach. I think I paid 15.99 for a small bottle. Remember, that just because it says to take however many per day, your need may be different. Sometimes a bottle lasts me longer that it says it will. I see a licensed homeopath, and she muscle tests me on all that I take. It's funny how the bottle of multi vit. recommend 9 tablets per day, but I muscle test for 2 per day. It isn't one size fits all. My kids have tested for more vit. c before than me. I bought a really expensive Vit C. crystal, and when I had it tested, I would have had to take 6 teas. daily to get the amount I needed. The can recommended 1/4 t. daily. It goes to show you that some things aren't what they seem. On fish oil, Renew Life claims that theirs has no taste. I have bought from Swansons before too. My homeopathist says that they are a pretty good brand, she has tested a lot of them and approves them. They are really reasonable. The price of some of their stuff cant compare to some places. I can buy beta glucan through them for half of somewhere local, and even cheaper if you buy 3.

DITTO to Namaste on the Nordic Naturals Fish oil and Now products. I also think whole foods is the best way to go and don't usually take any vitamins. I am only taking fish oil supplements now (because of my child's eczema) and because the non-farm-raised
non-toxic
non-mercury
containing fish is so hard to come by these days, so I just don't eat it.

NAMASTE and/or SABRA:

What are your opinions on supplementing straight GLA through EPO, Borage, or Blackcurrent in addition to/or in place of fish oil (perhaps for the vegan-diet)?

I ran out of my prenatal vitamins and a friend gave me her leftovers from Wal-mart.
The ingredients besides the vitmins listed are:
Corn starch
titanium dioxide
synthetic vitamin E
Yellow 6 lake
Blue 2 lake
dextrin
diacalcium phosphate
glycol
titanium dioxide

Obviously this is a space-saver in my cabinet.

How many stablizers, starches, alcohols, and colors do we need in our vitamins? Crazy.

Vitamins are needed today more than ever before. The overutilization of the soil creates a depletion of vitamins, and minerals from the foods we purchase and consume. Pesticides are then used to keep bugs and pests away from plants. Chemical fertilizers are used to make plants grow regardless of how depleted the soil is. This results in a plant that that grows fast but lacks the full nutrition that an organic plant has. Produce is also sprayed with chemicals to help it ripen. All these are problems with the food industry in general.

So to combat this I have learned about a whole food vitamin that offers complete nutrition from vitamins found in
Carrot , Wild Yam, Broccoli, Spinach, Tomato, Kale, Nutritional Yeast, Acerola Cherry, Black Current, Wheat Germ, Blueberry Juice, Strawberry Juice, Raspberry Juice, Guava Juice, Orange Juice, Watermelon Juice, Apple Juice, Pineapple Juice, Carrot Juice, Cabbage, Broccoli Juice, Spinach Juice, Parsley Juice

However, this is only a portion of the equation. Minerals are also needed by the body. This is where most other supplements fall short. You see in order for the body to absorb minerals they have to be in a form that is bioavailable to the body. By eating plants or organic produce the body absorbs minerals from them. This is the easiest and most bioavailable way for the body to get the minerals it needs. So for a vitamin-mineral supplement to supply minerals to the body that mineral has to be bonded with an amino acid.

Now I've discussed half of the equation------
Enzymes are also needed by the body to digest the foods we eat. Enzymes are present in raw foods. When we cook or otherwise process foods the enzymes are totally destroyed. However: there is a good side to all this. What is that you ask? Well, the body has the ability to produce enzymes to help digest the food we eat. When the body is digesting food. it does not use its enzyme producing abilities to heal and repair the body. Why? The body places a priority on digesting food. As a matter of fact, digestion is the body's number one priority. It will go to extreme lengths to digest its food. So why mention enzymes?

The body's life span is directly related to the amount of enzymes it has and uses up.
If the body uses up all of its enzymes ( the body dies.)
By putting the body in a position of making enzymes puts a stress on the immune system when food does not get fully digested it causes the white blood cells to go to work trying to get rid of foreign material in the bloodstream. This is a condition known as digestive leucocytosis. Here is an example of the body using up an enzyme --Lactose intolerance--If the body uses up its supply of the enzyme lactase, the body can not digest milk products correctly. This appears to doctors as an allergy when it is just the body's lack of the lactose enzyme.

So supplementing with a full compliment of enzymes can help the body by reserving its use of or production of enzymes for the repair and healing of the body.

This brings me to the fourth and final thing a person needs to be healthy-- and that is PROBIOTICS. The healthy body has three pounds of healthy bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. These bacteria strains function as a backup to our immune system. This bacteria protects us from food-borne bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella pseudomonas. These bacteria also help to detoxify and promote proper digestion. They also help to supress harmful bacteria which cause yeast infections. Certain strains produce the enzyme lactase which can help with the problem listed above.

If you want to know more about this vitamin that includes everything I've mentioned then send me an email with vitamins in the subject line. The reason I'm not revealing this website is because I am interested in people learning the truth about vitamins. With all this included my vitamin cost is $1.4o shy of $50.00
This is what I recommend
