Severe stroke and right hemiplegia

Hello, My father-in-law suffered from a severe stroke on March 17. He had a heart attack 10 years ago and had an angioplasty after that,he had another angioplasty 2 years ago.In february his cardiologist detected Atrial Fibrillation and started him on medicines. After 3 weeks the sinus rythum returned, but he suffered from a stroke. He was thrombolised within 3 hours. He was in ICU for 8days, now he has right hemiplegia though he moves his right leg when tickled and moves his right shoulder when pricked or hurt on his right arm. He is unable to talk ,unable to sit without support and is being fed by nose tube.He is learning to swallow, but the progress is very slow.He looks confused at times as if doesn't remember why he is like this, lots of time depressed, nods his head very slightly when questioned.I was advised to start him on Causticum 200 once per day for two weeks and progress to Causticum 10000 once a week for 8 weeks. Also someone suggested five phos along with this. Can you please advise.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Causticum is considered as a specific remedy of paralysis by many people but the following points should also be considered before making a final selection -

*Mentals of the patient before he suffered the stroke like his relationship with his close relatives, his outlook of social and political events.

*As the stroke has been triggered due to thrombosis and as the patient is also a heart patient, Lachesis should also be considered.

*Five Phos is a good suggestion, kali phos 6x works well in such conditions.

*It would be better to consider complete medical history of the patient.

*Other symptoms like sweating pattern, bowel movements, urinary symptoms, changes in symtpoms at different points in time like morning, evening etc should also be considered.

My father in law is a self made man,he migrated to Bombay at a young age and was doing well for many years, then his business suffered and he developed an ulcer in his intestine, he was operated around 30 years ago, though he still suffers from acute acidity and needs to eat regularly, he used to get very upset if his meals were delayed. He lost his wife 20 years ago and singlehandedly brought up my younger brother in law. He was usually mild mannered but would lose his temper if food was late or not cooked properly. He often had constipation though he never drank tea or coffee, nor cigarettes or alcohol. He religiously did yoga for an hour every morning and would go for walks. He was very active. He would sweat a lot after his walks and incidently was sweating profusely an hour before his stroke. He got into an argument with his younger son over food and later cooked it himself, i moved with my husband from Bombay seven years ago and till recently he had a good maid, she left in January and he was not happy with the replacement. I hope I have given the required history. Can you help.

YOu may give him Causticum 200c once a day for 3 days and see how he responds in the next 10 days. Opium is another remedy that may work if causticum fails. It should also be given in the same way after 10 days if needed.

Thank you so much. We have started him on Causticum 200 once a day yesterday, how soon will we be able to see any change?

You should wait for atleast 10 days. It is a deep acting remedy and needs some time to show results. You may also take help of Swami Ramdev's Patanjali Chikitsalaya where they offer a good package for treatment of paralysis. The patient should be knowing that he was doing yoga regularly.
