Chronic swollen glands in throat

I've had swollen glands in my throat since Dec 2009. Have been to allopathic MDs who have run many blood tests, have checked my throat for cancer and seem to be stumped. Symptoms: both sides of throat are swollen; on some days, I have trouble swallowing (middle of my throat); some days the swelling is not as severe as others; on the worst days, I feel draggy all over and very fatigued; the only relief I find is when I lie down -- the swelling seems to diminish with sleep.
I have tried giving up just about every food and/or drink, thinking it might be an allergy; We had some mold removed/repaired in a shower in our apartment, but that seems not to have made any difference; the weather does not seem to have any effect on the swelling. I live in a tropical climate.
Other symptoms: Ongoing (for several years) ringing in ears/tinnitus (for which I have tried Thiosinaminum, without success; for several weeks late last year I had an itching/rawness on the area surrounding my anus, but that has subsided -- not sure if that was an allergy.

I am male, will be 70 years old in June 2010. Height 5' 10', weight 190 lbs., fair complexion; was a long-time smoker, quitting some 11 years ago. Don't smoke now, drink seldom. Most of my time is spent at the computer. I walk about a mile every day - weather permitting.

My wife's father was an M.D. who practiced homeopathy so I am familiar with how it works and the success with the right remedy.
Any help would be much appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please take a single dose of Lycopodium 200c for only one day (not daily) and report back after 15 days.

kadwa,

I took the single dose of Lycopodium 200c that you recommended, but have not had any noticeable change in the symptoms -- it has been one week.

In the meantime, I have had a CAT scan of the throat, which showed enlarged salivary glands, with the gland on the right side of my throat swollen more than the left -- and swollen lymph glands in my throat. The Ear Nose and Throat MD thinks there is blockage of the salivary gland
and the swelling has spread from there to the lymph glands. He told me to drink lots of water -- to try to increase the viscosity of my saliva. And he told me to take ibuprofen to try to
decrease the swelling.

Since I am still in quite a bit of discomfort, I would like to find a homeopathic remedy that will decrease this swelling and get me back to normal.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Even though your information is very limited.

You can take Belladona 200, daily dose for 3 days. To reduce swelling.

Until then please write about your general condition and modalities . What makes you better?

Feelings and sensations?

The only relief I get is when I lie down. After sleeping all night, the throat feels much better. As the morning progresses, the swelling and discomfort increases. I can get some relief by lying down for 20 or 30 minutes -- being in a prone position is the only way I can feel relief in my throat. By evening, the throat is very swollen again. Thinking it was an allergy, I tried eliminating just about everything from my diet -- to no avail. The weather doesn't seem to have any effect. A hot drink does not feel much better going down than a cold drink. Some days the swelling seems to be slightly better, but never goes away. On the worst days, I feel heart palpetations and extreme stress from the swollen throat, which makes me irritable and cranky. Hope this helps you get a better picture and I appreciate your time.

What about your temperature preferences??

are you sensitive to change in temp?

What about your mentals? any fears? thought? any thing unsual?

There is something that you havent told anyone but you think it is somthing odd in you??

Also tell me do you have fevers? Sweat? Burning sensations?

Temperature preferences?? Hot and humid make me uncomfortable, but generally speaking, if it's too warm in the room, I turn on the a.c. If it's too cold, I turn it off.

Are you sensitive to change in temp? Not really. Too warm makes me feel just as uncomfortable as too cold.

What about your mentals? any fears? thought? any thing unsual? With the swollen glands, I often feel claustrophobic and worry that I will not be able to swallow at all one of these days.

There is something that you havent told anyone but you think it is somthing odd in you?? Wish I could pick something out, but no, nothing odd.

Also tell me do you have fevers? Sweat? Burning sensations? No fever. But on the worse days, when my throat is bothering me most, I feel a little sickly all over, as if there is an infection going on. Week and sickly some days, but no fever.

Try Baryta Carb. 30

three doses first day

two doses second day

and one dose third day.

If you notice any aggravation at any stage...stop taking further dose. Just allow the med to do its work internally.

In case of a strong aggravation (don't think it will happen..however ..at your age better to keep you armed with the knowledge...drink some black coffee).

Are tehre other problems troubling you...like prostrate enlargement, high BP etc ??

High pulse rate. BP is around 120 over 70, pulse is in the 90s, sometimes peaking over 100.

Will do. I ordered the Baryta Carb, will take it as you suggested and will get back to you next week. Thank you for the help.

My prescription for you would be

Lachesis 200 single dose and report after a week.

Lachesis ...would have been good if he had High BP and morning headaches.

I don't see it here.

Even Belladona..which you suggested earlier has right sided head aches and redness in eyes, ear lobes etc.
I did not see it in the symptoms list.

Remember

The remedy symptoms shall not be in the person but the persons symptoms should be in the remedy.

If your case was right then bartya carb , this patient should have had slow growth and a retarded mind which has not grown at normal pace.

To be a good homeopath you have to understand the totality. Not rely on words from the reportary to be there in the patient.

Hello Gumby...further more...John is saying...he gets relief when he sleeps.

'Lachesis patient' >>> sleeps into an aggravation >>>he gets up from sleep much in distress.

That is why I did not consider Lachesis as an appropriate med for him.

There are many symptoms of John which are leading to the choice of Baryta Carb.

Best wishes,
