Swelling & pain in foot. Surgery done but no success.

Hello. I am posting this query on behalf of my father.

He is 73 yrs and healthy. About 4 years back he started experiencing pain in his right foot. Earlier the pain was very less but about 2 years back, the pain become unbearable and he struggled to walk properly. He was diagnosed for 'Osteoarthritis Talonavicular Joint (right)'.

An orthopedic surgeon from Apollo Hospital, New Delhi guaranteed 100% recovery after a surgery called 'Arthrodesis Tarsal Joints (right)'. He had suggested that it will take about 3-4 months for my father to fully recover. The surgery was carried out in Sept 2010 and later stitches were removed.

Nine months have passed by, but the condition has become bad to worse! He has perpetual pain in the said area. Today he cannot walk. If he does, he develops huge swelling around the operated area and of course there is sever pain. We have spoken to the surgeon many times and he has only been giving pain killers. On confronting, he has confessed that the surgery hasn't succeeded.

We are shocked and disappointed. Now I am looking for advice from the homeopathy fraternity for improvement in his condition.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Your father may be asked to take the remedies as given below...

Arnica 30c
then after 2 hours Rhus Tox 30c
then after 2 hours Arnica 30c
then after 2 hours Rhus Tox 30c
then after 2 hours Arnica 30c
then after 2 hours Rhus Tox 30c

The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows (Joe De Livera):

Order the remedy in a 5ml Ethanol pack also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard before you take a capfull which is the dose. Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this shaking must be done every time before a capful of the bottle is sipped as directed.

To Kadwa

I am happy to note that you have prescribed the Wet dose that I use exclusively today for all my patients as I have sufficient proof that it is far more effective than the standard pellets that I used to give them.

I note that you have prescribed Arnica 30c alternating it with Rhus Tox 30c for the 73 year old patient's swelling which resulted after his surgery at the Apollo New Delhi. It seems such a shame that he was operated for some imagined condition and I would recommend that the patient seeks legal counsel to charge the hospital for this obvious mess up.

May I also suggest that you prescribe Apis M 6c and alternate it with Arnica 6c both in the Wet dose as they will both work jointly to reduce the swelling and alleviate the pain.

Hypericum 200 in the Wet dose can also be prescribed for the pain and the patient should be instructed to keep about an hour between remedies all of which can be taken twice daily. The Hypericum may however be taken every 4 hours as the analgesic effect lasts about this time.

All drugs that the patient may be using must be stopped if he decides to use this therapy.

Thanks for replying. However I need some clarification. Let me first tell you what I have understood.

Arnica 30c & Rhus Tox 30c need to be taken one after the other, after a gap of 2 hours, 3 times each.

My queries are:

- The dilution suggested by you needs to be made for both the medicines separately. Is that right?
- only 3 drops of Arnica 30c and 3 drops of Rhus Tox 30c need to be added to 500ml of spring water each separately. Is that right?
- Each dose is 1 cap full of the remedy made, approx 5ml. Is that right?
- For how many days this has to repeat?
- What should be the gap (before and after) between a dose and food/water

I do not normally butt in on posts that are already being treated by my colleagues but since you have directly asked me your question, I do hope that Kadwa will not take it amiss if I do reply.

I have had some experience in treating a patient who was operated for Hogdkin's disease (cancer) and he arrived with his foot in a rubber slipper as he was unable to wear his shoe as his foot was grotesquely swollen. His surgeon had informed him that he had saved his life 2 years prior to meeting me by removing the tumour which was about the size of a lime which had been excised from his thigh. He has been informed that the swelling he had in his foot was a small price to pay to be alive and had given the patient some drugs including diuretics, which had not worked. The patient was resigned to suffer for the rest of his life but someone had mentioned my name and he came to see me in the hope that I could perform the miracle that he expected.

I am happy to report that in just 2 weeks, his swelling was reduced and he arrived wearing both his shoes happy that I had reduced the swelling which he had suffered from since his surgery 2 years prior.

The therapy I used is as follows:

Arnica 6c to help to make the blood more liquid.

Apis Mel 6c to stimulate the kidneys to leach out more fluid from the body.

Both remedies were given in the Wet dose made as copied by Kadwa above.

In your Dad's case he can also take Hypericum 200c in the Wet dose every 3-4 hours to ease his pain.

No other drugs may be used.

Rhus Tox is not necessary.

The timing of each remedy should be adjusted to be around an hour between each.

Food can be taken after an interval of an hour. Plenty of liquids must be taken to stimulate the kidneys to pass urine.

Please note that you must get the 3 remedies above in Ethanol preferably 87% proof for best results. The pellets are not as effective as you will only use 3 drops of each remedy in a 500ml bottle of Spring water.

Report progress in a week.

Dear Joe,

Thanks for your reply. I am personally receiving treatment from Kadwa and already benefiting. I've been through the forum and observed many people have benefited from his prescription. He is a gentleman and highly admired. So I am sure he would have no issues with you sharing your gems.

Before I go ahead with the purchase of remedies, let me clarify from you if I have understood the prescription correctly.

- Now I am supposed to create 3 bottles of 3 separate remedies (Arnica, Apis Mel & Hypericum).
- The strength of Arnica is 6c, Apis Mel is 6c & Hypericum is 200c
- Each remedy needs to be taken 3-4 times a day with a gap of 1 hr in between

You have emphasized the role of Ethanol. I did not quite understand that part (I am new to homeopathy). Please help me understand so that I purchase the correct remedy.

Dear Bairagi,

Please start with my suggestion and if there is no change within 1 week, let Joe take over the case.

- The dilution suggested by you needs to be made for both the medicines separately. Is that right?
**Yes. Thats right.

- only 3 drops of Arnica 30c and 3 drops of Rhus Tox 30c need to be added to 500ml of spring water each separately. Is that right?

- Each dose is 1 cap full of the remedy made, approx 5ml. Is that right?

- For how many days this has to repeat?
**7 days.

- What should be the gap (before and after) between a dose and food/water
**30 minutes

Good Wishes to All.

Okay Mr. Kadwa. I'll follow your prescription for 7 days and revert.
Thanks for your response to my queries.

Mr. Kadwa, my father has started the medicines today. I have asked him to stop all other medication. He is mainly taking a pain killer at the moment and applying an ointment on the surface of the area operated.
He wants to know what he should do in the event of acute pain that he generally experiences.
Bairagi last decade
There is no need to stop the allopathic medication abruptly. He may phase out the allopathic medication depending on his response to the treatment. So he may continue to take the pain-killers. He should feel the change inspite of taking the allopathic medicines if the treatment clicks.

Ok, thanks.

Hello Mr. Kadwa.

My father has completed 7 days of medication as per prescription. He has reported that he does not feel any difference. The swelling and pain are as much as they were earlier.

Please suggest next steps.
Bairagi last decade
Please give him Hypericum 30c in the wet dose thrice a day for 7 days and report back.
kadwa last decade
Okay. Does he need to continue with wet doses of Arnica 30c and Rhus Tox 30c also?
Bairagi last decade
No. Only Hypericum.
kadwa last decade
Okay. Thanks.

Hello Mr. Kadwa.

After 7 days of being on Hypericum, my father has reported no improvement. He says his condition is same as it was earlier.

Please suggest next steps.
Bairagi last decade
Please give him Bryonia 30c thrice a day at a gap of 4 hours for 3 days and report back after 10 days.

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 4 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 3-4 drops in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

Please don't give other homeo remedies.

Hi Bairagi

It is very difficult to cure this condition particularly in the advanced age. The surgery you mentioned is normally done as a last resort and it's failure indicates a bad prognosis.

The above surgery is done when even large doses of pain relief medication doesn't help.

Pallliation is what one can attempt now.

Is he pain free if he doesn't walk at all?

Does he get pain and swelling even if he walks a few steps?

Does the pain subside if he takes rest after walking a few feet?

gavinimurthy last decade
Hello Mr. Kadwa. There is still no progress in the condition of my father. The pain has been mounting so much that he had to see an orthopedic surgeon recently. The surgeon has suggested another surgery that may improve the condition to some extent. I have asked my father to wait until I consult you for the next steps. Please advise next steps.

Hello Mr. Murthy. Your analysis of my father's condition is very precise.
The pain is minimum when he is not moving.
If he walks even 10-15 steps, the pain and swelling soars drastically.
After walking, it takes 15-20 minutes for the pain to subside.

Thank you.

On the basis of the reported symptoms, Bryonia or Hypericum should have worked. You may give him Staphysagria 200c thrice a day at a gap of 4 hours for only one day and see whether it helps in next few days. Sometimes (rarely) a remedy on the basis of totality of symptoms may also help under such conditions, for that we need more details.
Please copy the Questionnaire from the following thread
and post all the questions here duly answered. On that basis his remedy may be worked out.
kadwa last decade
I will soon answer the questionnaire.

In the meanwhile, please let me know the dose of Staphysagria 200c.
