sorry for the delayed reply!
I'm doing better on many fronts including braxton hicks, bloating, heart palpitations. Overall feel pretty good.

One recent problem is swelling on face, hands and feet in the morning. Hands and feet tend to get better as day progresses, but swelling surrounding eyes stays for most of the day. Leg cramps at night.

Plz advise further.
Thanks!

Hi Maheeru,

I'd appreciate your advice on using equisetum arvense(horsetail,I believe) for healthy hair.
Since horsetail has high silica content, it should not be taken internally during pregnancy, but can I still get some benefit from it by adding it to my shampoo/conditioner/hair oil?
If yes, plz guide about the mixing proportions, frequency of use etc.

anu79 last decade
Hi Anu

I don't suggest any additional cosmetic stuff during pregnancy as they may affect the foetus in a subtle way. So i think you can explore with this equisetum arvense post pregnancy. You may though use coconut oil or natural henna like harmless stuff.

Get Arg. nit. 200c and take doses in the fashion that you took 30c of this medicine. Report after 10 days after taking the doses.

maheeru last decade
Maheeru, I'll report after I take the remedy.

Meanwhile could you suggest a relief for my mother?

She's 63 yrs old , recently had a gallbladder stone removed. Very thin, diabetic, low immunity.
Her most bothering suffering is that she gets upset stomach, lose motions after taking any kind of medicine for even common ailments like cold, viral fever.
Only a change in weather, water, place is enough to keep her awake through nights.

I was wondering if Nux. Vom. could be a hands on remedy for any time she starts suffering? I'm not sure whether she can opt for the constitutional homeo remedy at this time as she's on several prescribed drugs for diabetes and recent UTI.

Also, you had suggested nux vom for my daughter for frequent colds etc, can I give it to her any time she starts developing the symptoms? What potency?

Thanks.

anu79 last decade
Hi Anu

For your mother you may try nux. vom. 30c first when she experiences the symptoms after the conventional medicines. If the doses give benefit you can certainly repeat it, a couple of times whenever she gets the symptoms. But after a couple of attempts if it does not hold for a long period or if the remedy does not give benefit from the start, we'll have to take more info. about her to arrive at an indicated remedy. One can take a remedy even when they are under prescribed medicines.

For your daughter you can apply nux vom. 30c first. See if she reacts positively even a bit. If she reacts positively then you may try it for a couple of times. After a couple of times, you may try nux. vom in 200c. In long run she may need deep acting medicines, if you continue to report the changing symptoms, suitable remedy may be suggested at that point of time.

Hi Maheeru,
Update after arg,nit.- braxton hicks, leg cramps much better, though swollen eyes still remain.
Taking tissue salts alternate week.

About my mother - She is suffering from frequent toilet visits for last 3 days. Nux Vom didn't help.
I suspect she has IBS, though not evaluated for it. HB only 7, calcium deficient and many more deficiencies i believe. Can she try something that would work for IBS?

anu79 last decade
Hi Anu

You can wait for 8 more days without medicine and take arg. nit. remedy in 1M strength one dose ONLY. Report 10 days after the dose.

====
For your mother, if she's having this diarrhea due to changes in weather, please try dulcamara in 30c (3 to 9 doses)

If it's not from weather change or she's not responding to dulcamara, then you will have to give more info. like causation, things that make worse/better, her reaction to heat/cold, any associated symptoms and also a little bit about her temperament/personality.

maheeru last decade
What you mention about deficiencies, IBS in your mother can be tried to be addressed if a remedy can be chosen for her overall symptoms. So after this episode of diarrhea is over, please try to post the filled in questionnaire for her.

Since you have an epileptic history...one med that will bring forth the best results is Cuprum aceticum. It is an ingredient of R 75 already suggested to you by Mr. Maheeru.

It will take care of your abdominal symptoms as well as palpitations etc.

I f you have heavy breathing...that will also become lighter.

Hi Maheeru,
Update on my mother's condition-
she's taken 3 doses of dulcamara so far and hasn't suffered stomach upset today. I'd have her continue it for 2 more days if its advisable. Can she use this remedy anytime she suffers?
I'll try to write her detail history, but which questionnaire are you referring to? The same one that I'd answered?
Today I took her to see a trichologist for her severe hairloss, and he suggested a homeo remedy, didn't reveal the name though coz they want us to buy it from them. He evaluated her as nervous type personality and that causing her frequent IBS bouts.
I didn't feel comfortable going ahead with the medication without even knowing its name, so decided to give it a rest.

Hi Mr. Varma,
Thanx for the suggestion. I'll read more abt the remedy and update. I suppose its safe to take in pregnancy?

Regards,
Anu

Hi anu

If she's doing well without any additional problem, she may continue it upto 9 doses.

She may use this remedy when she gets stomach upset due to weather changes and when she's not under any other constitutional remedy. Yes you can have her answer the questionnaire that you answered yourself.

Pankaj, to clear the air: I have not suggested R 75. I usually am not in favour of such combinations and i also know of your favourable opinion about it :)

Hi Maheeru,

Reporting after a long time.
I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant. Everything else is fine except racing heart sometimes, especially when I'm resting on my back or left side.
More worrisome complaint is that I had an epileptic attack 2 days back even after taking my prescription med. Thankfully I was sitting on the couch and didn't fall, so the baby is not hurt. But I absolutely can't afford to let this happen again atleast until I deliver.
Can I take something alongwith my AED to control the seizures? Plz help.

Regards,
Anu

Anu

I think if you had reported on time, we could have avoided this with suitable repetition of medicine.

Can you give me the details about the epileptic attack you had before 2 days from the perspective of before, during and after? Any associated symptoms or cause for this?

maheeru last decade
My post title itself indicates about my epilepsy. Reason I didn't hightlight it in my earlier posts is that this one was the first seizure I had in last 10 months, so up until now I assumed that the condition is well-controlled and I'll have a smooth pregnancy. But alas!

Here's the description of my seizures-
I never get an aura or evenif I do its not much in advance or I don't realise it as an onset of a seizure. Most of the attacks have been in the evening around 4-6pm. As people around me have described, sometimes I give a out a short cry or stare or drop the thing in my hand, then stiffen the limbs, don't shiver/shudder, sometimes froth, then fall and lose consciousness. Then go into a deep sleep for few minutes. The whole seizure lasts only for 2-3 mins sometimes less.

Recent attack -
I was sitting on a sofa having tea. Didn't feel the attack coming and suddenly arms and legs stretched and stiffened, head stiffened back. No trembling or teeth chattering or mouth frothing or screaming. I don't remember anything, but my mother told me later. In one minute I regained some consciousness. Mother helped me towards the bed and I slept for few minutes and then was normal.
Do not remember if I had taken the morning dose or many other things from during that day.
I'm not sure if I can associate the attack with any cause, but overall have been under some stress due to worrying about safe pregnancy and delivery. Husband's long working hours don't allow him to be there when needed. Worry about taking care of 2 kids on my own while I'm not in good health myself. Scared to handle an infant.

What can I do to not feel sick and be seizure-free? Plz advise.

Hi Anu

Please dissolve Lycopodium 30c 2 pills in 250ml of distilled water and take 3 drops from this bottle as a dose every 3 days. From 2nd dose onwards, please shake the bottle up and down vigorously for 8 times just before taking the dose. You can continue dosing until you feel better and no aggravation is noticed.

In between if you get aggravation stop and report. Report after delivery to follow further directions if necessary.

maheeru last decade
Let me see if I got the instructions correct.
1) Use the dosage from the same bottle until its finished, no need to prepare the fresh dose everytime.
2) If I take the first dose on Monday, then next dose will be on Thursday or Friday? Meaning, count 3 days including Monday and take the next dose on 4th day?
3) Any particular signs of aggravation to look out for or just in general feeling of being unwell?
Plz reassure me once again that the medicine is safe for the baby.
Thanx!
-Anu

Anu

1) Correct. After you have let the pills/drops dissolved in the water bottle, it'll be your remedy solution bottle, and you will keep this safe in a dry, cool environment away from sunlight. No need to prepare the dose everytime.

2) The next dose will be on Thursday if you took the first dose on monday.

3) Any signficant aggravation in physicals or mentals should be watched for.

Stick to the basic dosage as has been suggested and follow the usual precaution like when you notice any aggravation stop the medicine and report. You will do fine.

Hi Maheeru,

I'm taking Lycopodium as suggested. Can't say if and how it is working yet, but no ill-effects seen so far, so will continue.
I'm about to complete the 8th month of pregnancy. How long should I continue the remedy? Also is it advisable to take any other remedies assisting birth, lactation and faster healing ? BTW,I'm having a planned c-section at 38 weeks.

Regards,
Anu

anu79 last decade
Anu, You can continue Lyco. as long as you feel better and no aggravation is noticed.

Close to labour, you may have to stop Lyco.

When it's time for labour but it's getting delayed take pulsatilla 30c a few doses.

If you undergo C section, you will need Arnica, Hypericum and calendula. You may have to take Arnica, Hypericum in 200c for 4 to 5 days immediately after delivery. (thrice daily for first 2 days and twice daily for next 2 days) Calendula spray/cream you can use on the surgery site and on the cut surfaces for quick adhesion and quick healing.

Post if you have any problem during lactation, then it can be handled at that time

Thanks Maheeru.

I'm definitely having a c-section, unless nature takes its course before the scheduled date. I've heard horrific stories abt constipation after anesthesia and pain killers. Is there any stool softener or laxative i can take? when and how? I have a scar tissue on the previous episiotomy site and suffer from painful bowel movements if constipated.

anu79 last decade
Arnica, Hypericum are fine to take alongwith the pain relievers i'll b prescribed?

anu79 last decade
Hi Anu

You're welcome.

Yes you can take arnica and hypericum along with conventional medicines. Just give 30 to 60 minutes between homeopathics and modern medicine.

For constipation after anesthesia and pain killers, nux vom. (if necessary you may take it in 30c or 200c) would be useful. But since you're taking Lycopodium already, there's a chance that your system is getting strengthened and you won't be getting the constipation. But one never knows how things would evolve.

i'm confused with the potency measurements of homeo meds. The bigger the number, more the potency? Meaning, 200c would be more potent than 30c? and how to compare among 'X''c' and 'M' potencies? If bigger number means more dilution, I'd guess the potency and effectiveness would be lesser.
Not of grave importance I know, but just for information, anybody can shed some light?

anu79 last decade
Hi Maheeru,

Feeling anxious as the delivery approaches, nervous, had headache around the right eyebrow migrating towards right temple and right side of head yesterday, water retention, heartburn 4-5 days, little constipated. Could be related to lyco?

anu79 last decade
Anu, reduce the frequency of Lyco. from every 3 days to every 6 days. Observe and report about what changes you notice.

About potency, the bigger the number, more the potency. Yes 30c is more potent in therapeutic action than 6c, 200c more potent than 30c and so on.

X is one part of medicine with 9 parts of vehicle for medicine. (200x is the maximum available potency in this scale)

C is one part of medicine with 99 parts of vehicle. (CM or 100M is the maximum available potency usually though custom made potencies can go up to MM )

Usual vehicle is alcohol/water or sterilised and distilled water.

1 M in common use is 1000c.

In homeopathics, the more the dilution, the potent the action unlike modern medicine.
