sounds good. Will keep you posted... During an aggravation, do other symptoms that were occurring disappear? or do they remain? or it's different for each individual

It varies to some degree, sometimes it is just some symptoms that become noticeable, at other times it is all of them. Symptoms can start disappearing within a few days, although typically it is after the aggravation. Sometimes minor unimportant symptoms can vanish straight away though.

okay wow..i slept really well last night- no sneezing, and i didn't wake around that 2 - 4ish.. in fact, i was soo deep asleep i didn't hear my daughter cry when she woke up, and that's a first!
i did sneeze some in the morning when we woke up tho in the morning, and i feel much better- no aches.
What's next?
Thanks so much,
karina

Excellent! That is a good first step. We watch and wait now - the remedies continue to act for a period of time, and we need to let them finish their work before jumping in with another dose.

I always wait to see how things pan out before proclaiming a remedy curative, as sometimes the remedies can palliate without curing the underlying disease. This becomes evident as the remedy 'wears off' and then fails to help again.

As for me, i was pretty good.. had more energy, was able to concentrate more, got Sleep- yay! cough comes around 2pm and lasts until 4 pm. Happened yesterday and today, And then it stops, like it never happened.
I had a very busy day, and normally after a day like today, i would be wiped out by now, but i still got energy.. so yes definitely better. Crack in the corner of mouth doesn't hurt as much today.

I did have my physical today and it was noticed that i was a little 'tender' on my left side - lower abdomen. I've had pain there on and off but haven't had it for months now. Nothing extreme. Will have an ultrasound done next week to rule out anything.

karinamom last decade
The tenderness could be an aggravation too. Remember, anything that aggravates should reduce or vanish when the medicine is finished its work.

Okay so i slept well, not as good as i did the previous night, but reasonably well. I woke up around that same time, and sneezed a couple of times, but it didn't last long and i was quickly able to fall back asleep.
I woke up in the morning sneezing away tho.

See how you are during the afternoon when you would usually feel tired and sleepy - if it happens today, repeat the remedy.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
i wasn't tired or sleepy in the afternoon, have been sleeping better the last two nights.
but i did have a bout of sneezing all morning until noonish.
No cough symptoms today.
Developing a mouth sore from a toothbrush injury under the tongue.

Continue waiting. It sounds good so far.

Okay. I'm expecting my period any day now, and usually i'm very sleepy prior to, so will see if that happens, and if it comes in the night which has been the case for the last few months.

karinamom last decade
i'm about to sleep and not feeling the best- have a real bad backache, cramps, primarily on my left side... will let you know more in the morning.
karina

karinamom last decade
Ok the crampy feeling went away, i slept so well i knocked out... sleeping so well i can't wake up to attend to the kids in the night, so my husband has taken over that job ha...
i woke up having a throat ache tho and feeling a little sick like as tho a flu might come on.. but not strong... i have my energy and all. No sneezing at all in the night, just a little bit in the morning, more of a runny nose.

I would still keep waiting for the moment - are all of those old or normal symptoms?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
all old. the crampy feeling is how i feel usually minutes before i am getting my period.... the left side pain has started a few months ago- and again only prior to period.

the throat is how i always feel before i get sick... and i usually dose up on ferrum phos when it happens..

okay today i feel a bit miserable. My throat is extremely itchy, raw, and hurts a little. I was very tired in the morning, so by 1 i caved in and took a nap. and slept for 2 hours!
my mouth is painful i have two mouth sores (one under the tongue) and one now behind my lip.

mouth sores were never common, again until a few months ago, when any *bang* with a toothbrush gave me a terrible mouth sore, that grows and grows and takes weeks to heal and very very painful.

i have to wait this out? I have a bit of a headache after that nap.

David,

My apologies for interjecting, I couldn't help but spot the obvious remedy here. Feel free to ignore.

Deep bloody cracks at mouth corners
Ailments from night-watching
Painful sores in the mouth
Exhaustion
Raw pain in throat
Thirstless
Amelioration from warmth
Amelioration from lying on abdomen

Nit-ac is overwhelmingly the best choice here. Cocculus although a strong remedy for the etiology here, just does not cover the totality. Cocculus is not a remedy which has an affinity for the orifices (painful or bloody manifestations around orifices is a hallmark of Nit-ac) nor does it have the thirstlessness, amelioration from lying on the abdomen.

I hope you will take it in the right spirit.

So all of this is an old state is that right? All symptoms that you get from time to time? None of these symptoms are new? Just want to definitely confirm that.

Return of old symptoms, if that is what this is, on any remedy is a good sign. Two possible choices of action appear here.

One is to wait it out, and allow the body to recreate and then purge the symptoms (this is usually my preference) without interference.

The second is to respond to the crisis with either a repeat of the first remedy, or a second remedy if necessary. I would usually only do this if the suffering clearly is too great and is going on too long.

I think you are at the 4-5 day mark, is that right, since taking the Cocculus? This would be the time-frame in which I would expect the worst of the aggravation to appear.

It is important not to suppress the symptoms with Ferrum-phos at this stage. As Sameer says, another remedy such as Nit-ac might be called for, but if this is a return of old symptoms it is usually not a good idea to try treating them out of context of the rest of the case.

Is there any difference in how you feel this time, compared to other times it has happened?

See how you go throughout the day - aggravations, even when they appear as a return of old symptoms, are usually short lived, and will most often leave the person better than they were before once they are over.

Also, just to check -

Do you have deep bloody cracks in the corner of your mouth?

What is the exact pain of the throat?

What is the exact pain of the mouth sores?

Do you normally get flu-like symptoms just prior to your period?

Are you normally off-colour like this prior to your period?

Quoting the patient :

'Oh! ANother chronic problem i get are these cracks in the corners of my mouth. Recently, and they take very long to go away. Bleed, heal, come back. '

'mouth sores were never common, again until a few months ago, when any *bang* with a toothbrush gave me a terrible mouth sore, that grows and grows and takes weeks to heal and very very painful. '

'Although i feel i would be dehydrated because of all the nursing, i'm generally thirstless. '

'My throat is extremely itchy, RAW, and hurts a little.'

sameervermani last decade
'If it's cramps, it's very light pain, and i sleep on my tummy to relieve it. '

'as a teen i suffered from anal fissures.. lots of pain and lots of bleeding. '

Right thanks Sameer yes I did miss that she said that previously.

Kent's Tenth Observation states that when old symptoms return, the physician knows that the patient is on the road to recovery. It indicates that the medicine must be let alone. If the old symptoms come back to stay then a repetition of the dose is often necessary. (Kent's lectures on homoeopathic philosophy, p.221)

This observation has always guided me well.

i find it coincidental that sameer has prescribed nit-ac for me and for my daughter- isn't it true that constitutional remedies run in the family (same predispositions, same tendencies, etc)..

Before having my children, i never really went thru 'pms' symptoms aside from the cramps and being thirsty the day prior to.

Now, i get crabby, but not flulike. Tired yes.

Yes a few months ago i started developing those cracks, and yes they take a long time to heal, crack, bleed, dry up , and come back. They hurt like poky things everytime i open my mouth too wide.
It seems to be 'silent' for now, not active, and not hurting.

The throat is itchy, and when i use my tongue to itch it a bit too much, it hurts. Not deep in the gullet. More so the point where the uvula is.

Mouth sores hurt when in contact, food, movement, and they get painful as the yellow part of it grows bigger and bigger. They get to a point that it's so painful, even in sleep, it wakes me up.

No not usually get flu like symptoms prior to period.

No just tired usually prior to my period. and chilly.

I feel better after the nap, but my throat is still very itchy today. and yes it is day 4 after taken the cocculus.

please advise,
karina

'They hurt like poky things'

This is the characteristic Nit-ac splinter sensation.

sameervermani last decade
ah i'm so confused.. okay what potency... i don't have nit-ac.. and i think i called before when my daughter was sick and you said 30 but they only come in pellets, and i thought nit-ac was a med that should not be taken in the pellet form.... very confused.

the itchy throat sensation comes more in sleep, wake ups, and when i talk a lot.

karinamom last decade
and just to make matters a little more complex i forgot a major chronic symptom....

when i was 19-20, i started getting pain in my chest, uhm... mostly when i was excessively stressed out, but the pain was sharp lasted a second or two and then went away.
and it would happen for a few days, and altogether disappear for months on end. Only to return the same way.

While i was pregnant with my first child, my doctor heard my heartbeat and found an abnormality- mitral valve something something. don't remember. She recommended an EKG while i was pregnant to rule out anything, and the results turned out fine.
The pains have returned, again with all the other symptoms (a few months ago). THis time they don't seem to be going away as quick. They still last a second or too, but remain for longer than just a few days...

I do nothing when that sharp pain comes, because really it just comes and then goes away. Sometimes it irritates me enough that i add pressure to it or rub it.

Hmm, any thoughts?
Sorry i'm so scatterbrained with mentioning all my symptoms

I'm not recommending you take the remedy right now. At-least not till your menses finish and you have convinced yourself that Cocc is not going to give further benefit.

I am just pointing out that there was a much closer remedy (quite possibly the simillimum) which was not chosen as the first prescription.

What we have to keep in mind is the following though: Very few people understand as to how similar a true simillimum is to the patients symptoms. With anti-miasmatics, we can get a virtually exact match at every level of the human being. This is not to say that other remedies cannot be applied with some apparent benefit. But the feeling that a patient gets with the true simillimum hardly ever leaves a doubt about the correctness of the choice. If the dosage is small enough, this 'unequivocal' shift usually happens fairly quickly.

Status: itchy throat, less itchy, but still itchy.
sneezed some last night in the middle of the night, nose is a little stuffy today.
itchiness in the nostrils (normal, chronic symptom).
