Nux Vomica side effects

Hi There,

I have Pollen allergy and it been there for almost 4 years. After going through this forum I came across an article which suggested to have Nux Vomica in sever condition about 4 pallets 3 times a day for 3-4 days until symptoms gone. I tried it and it worked for me but unfortunately just one dose was not enough for me so I have to take it for 5-6 cycles 3days-3times-4pellets meaning around a month. Than it was one in two weeks and than it was once in a month. Eventually I stopped taking it and summer is gone so the pollen symptoms also. I started it somewhere in March this year and stopped it around June/July.

BUT NOW I AM GETTING SIDE EFFECTS LIKE MUSCLE CRAMPS/SPASMS, PAIN IN JOINTS ESPECIALLY LEGS, BACK PAIN, DIZZINESS ETC AND FEELING SLEEPY ALL TIME.

When searched about the side effects of Nux Vomica I found that my symptoms match with it's side effects.

What could be my steps to avoid any side effects if there are? Can some one suggest me my options & things I need to do.

You get side-effects like this when a remedy is not used correctly. It is possible that you have suppressed your original illness and transformed it into something new - and a remedy will tend to create these new diseases with their own characteristics.

The best way to reverse such a problem is to have your case taken by a practitioner who knows how to choose the right remedy, and the right dose.

Suppression is where one set of symptoms is pushed deeper into the person, reappearing in a more painful or dangerous location, or appearing on more levels (nasal symptoms become mental symptoms for example).

Suppression can happen when an inappropriate remedy is used too frequently, as it blocks the natural pathways of the disease, forcing it to come out in other places.

If you are absolutely sure these symptoms started from the Nux-v which can happen given the amount of repetition you did with the same potency, this needs to be anti-doted.

My advice is to buy a remedy named COCCULUS INDICUS in 6c potency in a small bottle of alcohol based liquid dilution. The alcohol content should be atleast 20%.

Bring the bottle close to your nostril, and take JUST one sharp quick sniff so that you can feel the smell of alcohol inside your nose strongly. This is to be done just ONCE.

Please report in 3 days as to how you feel. If you receive benefit, further anti-dotes can be applied in case troublesome symptoms persist.

I forgot to mention that you should open the lid before you bring the bottle's opening close to your nostril. Should be obvious though :)

In my view: Symptoms of the second layer have shown up...Try a few doses of Rhus tox 200c. Nux Vomica helped to clear the confusion of symptoms picture.

I have now two possible solutions proposed to me, one to have COCCULUS INDICUS & other to have Rhus Tox. Can some one please help me understand both ways and help me choose to first one to try?

Rhus-t will do nothing for you as it is not an anti-dote to Nux-v.

If your ailments started from Nux-v, it is your best bet to try an anti-dote first.

Cocculus is one the chief anti-dotes to Nux.

Take an olfaction dose as suggested and report back in 3 days,

I am in NJ,USA. I am having hard time finding the remedy you suggested. When I search online all I get is pellets and liquid COCCULUS INDICUS which I get on www.amazon.com are of LM7 & other LM types. I am not sure what those means. Would you please help me find right COCCULUS INDICUS?

One more concern what if after trying this antidote my symptoms comes back like continuous sneezing & running nose others of hey fever?

I had COCCULUS INDICUS as you directed. I think I got around 15% relief. Still I have pain in lower back and leg joint. I am still having occasional bolting, spams.

Please guide next step.

Hi All,

Can some one please tell me how to move ahead? I tried COCCULUS INDICUS as directed by Sameer. I felt no pain at all on the first day but pain came back gradually day after day. I feel around 15-20% relief. Should I continue to take a sniff or take the remedy as other remedies 3-5 drops with water. What would be the next course of action?

Three days back I got prickles all over body and had to go visit doctor.
Doctor prescribed me with some medicines so I thought it is not a good idea to start the remedy you suggested with it. The medication I am prescribed include pain killer and minor dose of steroid too.
Should take the remedy you suggested with other allopathic medicine or wait till the course is over?

Hi Rajesh,

Taking steroids or other allopathic medicines will push prickles (right now on a superficial plane of skin) deeper into your body, and then the disease will take hold of more vital organs.

I will caution against continuing on such a hazardous path. Please refrain from allopathic medications for the skin if you can.

How do you feel as far as the problems which started after the Nux-v mis-use are concerned ?

The original symptoms are still there. No further improvements. Leg cramps, joint pain is still there. It even seems the muscles are stiffed. I still need to take Belladonna dose. If you suggest before going with the allopathic medicine, I can take it.

Hi Sameer,

I took the Belladonna dose as you directed. This seems to give around 30% relief. Before starting this I was on antibiotic because of high fever for 5 days course. I took the dose after couple of days stopping antibiotic.

Please suggest next course of actions.

Please take an olfaction dose of Arsenicum Album 6c in the same fashion.

If it is easier to get pellets, the dose can be taken in water, by dissolving 1 pellet in 500 ml spring water, and taking a teaspoon from there.

Report after 5 days.

I took the dose as you directed with pellets. No much difference again.

This makes me think are we going in the right direction? Why the pain is not going? Are we missing something?
