Barthollin's Cyst and Silica

Hi, I have had a swollen bartholin's cyst for about 4 weeks. It wasn't sore or infected. I went to the obgyn because I noticed it was swollen (slightly smaller than a quarter) and I was dry during intercourse. I wasn't able to put in a word catheter because I was leaving town within a month and wasn't able to have the same doctor do a follow up to remove the word catheter. Instead, she just drained it, had me on antibiotics so it wouldn't get infected, and told me to keep it clean and do sitz baths. It didn't go down significantly until I started adding tea tree oil and lavender to the sitz baths. A week ago I started using silica complex (3 pills a day) and continuing the baths. It seemed to go down slightly - It's been about the size of a nickle for the past week but hasn't been going down since. For the past week I've also had slight dark colored bleeding which I notice is heaviest soon after I take the silica. Blood and blood clots have also come out during my sitz baths for the past week. Can you tell me if this is normal? Am I using the silica properly (3 pills at once each day) and if this bleeding will continue or if it should have stopped after a few days? The cyst is not sore or tender at all. Thank you!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please use the homeopathic patient intake form and give us the appropriate information about your case, and hopefully someone here will help you begin correct homeoapthic treatment.

From a homeopathic perspective, the cyst is the effect of an inner disease, not the problem itself. To damage the cyst via baths or something similar actually does damage to your whole system. When the homeopathic remedy cures your internal disease, then the cyst will go away on it's own.

You didn't mention the strength of the Silica that you are using. If you are starting to bleed after using the Silica, that is a sign to stop. Either it's the wrong medicine, or you've already used too much.

In homeopathy it is common to give one dose that will last days, weeks, or months.

Thank you for your response. I'm using Futurebiotics Super Silica Complex, which states the following per tablet:
200 mg Calcium
150 mg Magnesium
15 mg Zinc
286 mg Horsetail leaf extract (standardized for 7% {20 mg} silica)
50 mg Betaine Hydrochloride
1.5 mg Boron

I was thinking that the blood meant that the cyst was draining but it has been over a week so I wasn't sure if I was doing something incorrectly. Please let me know the correct dosage to take or if I should stop using it altogether.

To the best of my knowledge, what you've been using is a vitamin, and doesn't have any homeopathic Silica in it at all.

Do you understand what homeopathy is?

You really didn't give much information in your answers to the form. Homeopathy puts tremendous focus on symptoms that don't have anything to do with the cyst. Old symptoms, and general things about you personally, will often point to the remedy that will cure a physical condition.

Thanks for the response and the links, it was helpful to get a clearer picture of homeopathy since this is my first time. As for the form, is there anything that I should be more specific about? My family has no history of diseases other than my father who passed away from cancer four years ago. My mood and cravings is generally very stable, though I was under a lot of stress at the time the cyst happened because of school. Does that help? If I am not taking the right silica, can you tell me where I can purchase it? I bought this Super Silica complex from the local health food store.

You've given very little information to go on in prescribing a homeopathic remedy to you.

It is true that cysts and bleeding are both symptoms that can indicate homeopathic Silica. How did you decide that Silica was the right homeopathic remedy?

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
If you would write a few paragraphs describing your personality and emotions, body type, and medical history it would help us to be sure if Silica is for you and then we can recommend the correct remedy and amount.

If someone else recommended Silica to you or you found it for your symptoms through some research, you can buy it at any health food store, or Whole Foods. I'd recommend that you buy it in 30c. To take a dose, put one pellet into a 10oz bottle of water, and one tablespoon is a dose. If that makes your symptoms decrease, then it's probably a good remedy for you.

Thanks. In response to your question about how I found out about silica, I have read numerous posts about bartholin's cysts and silica, including several on this site:

http://www.abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/177294/

The last two threads have a reply that suggests using a silica complex very similar to what I have been using as well, which is why I believed I was using the right one.

As for the further detail you asked regarding my personality, etc:

I am a very easy going person, and am always nice and sincere to everyone and always there for my friends and family. I am hardly in a bad mood, and have been told 'happy go lucky,' since I am friendly, smile a lot, enjoy laughing, sweet and generally sociable though I do enjoy my alone time. I have only a few very good friends in different circles, and though I have a lot of acquaintances, I don't have a lot of people I consider a true friend. It may be because though I am very sociable and can make conversation with others easily, I can be a bit reserved and unwilling to trust divulging personal information all friends. I dislike confrontation and arguments and try to avoid it as much as possible. I hate other people being mad or upset with me and strive to please everyone and do the right thing, which is very exhausting at times. However, I can be very stubborn and when I get an idea in my head, I tend to be hard to persuade otherwise. I am indecisive and often times noncommittal when it comes to both long term and short term planning.

I am not very emotional when it comes to sad things such as sickness and death, I have a tendency to push it out of my mind and not think about it, as was the case with my dad's battle with cancer and eventual death. When things are bothering me I tend to talk it through it with only my close friends and as I mentioned try to push it aside, but at times internalize it and think it through over and over again until I am able to push it out again. I don't have major mood swings and am generally in a good mood. I did have difficulty getting over a breakup a couple of years ago however, and was told I showed signs of depression and some manic phases of not needing much sleep, late night partying and dating guys that I wouldn't normally. I went to a therapist to help me get over the breakup and she said I was healthy, the feelings I had were normal for the situation, and didn't diagnose me with anything.

My body type I would say is average, I tend to carry more weight in my upper arms and stomach. I don't go to the gym or have a regular routine, but I eat fairly well since I prefer vegetables over meat and am healthy as I walk everywhere.

My medical history is pretty clean - I used to get bad headaches as a child (not migraines, just very bad headaches where I would cry it hurt so much). I don't get them anymore. Now I tend to get stomachaches if anything, I had a period a couple of years ago where I would get nauseous during the day, my dr said it was minor acid reflux and I only get it now once in a blue moon. As mentioned, I was very sick when I got this cyst. I was under stress from school finals, physically and mentally drained, and was battling a sore throat and coughing for a couple of weeks before it escalated to uncontrollable coughing, a throat so sore I couldn't talk, and mucus was pouring out of my eyes. For those two or three days, it was the most sick I had ever been. The doctor-prescribed antibiotics listed in the intake form helped me to get over it. That was about 4 weeks ago, and over the past several days I have had the beginnings of a sore throat again.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if any other information is needed.

Ok. Based on that, I think it would be good to try Silica. You can buy it at any health food store, or Whole Foods. I'd recommend that you buy Silica in 30c. To take a dose, put one pellet into a 10oz bottle of water, and one tablespoon is a dose.

This is a test dose, and depending on your response to this, the dosage and frequency can be adjusted.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Great thank you! Just to clarify - take just one dose of silica (one tablespoon) per day for now?

Also, is there any other resources you can provide on silica and why you think it would be good for me based on my description above? I am trying to learn more about this and why silica may work for me. thank you!

ollie123 last decade
No. You would take one dose of Silica 30c, and then you would see what the response is. It could last days, weeks, or months, or you could need a stronger dose. Or you could need a different form of medicine.

The cyst and bleeding are the primary reasons that I am comfortable with Silicea. I think you may have also possibly shown some of the personality traits. You also didn't show any signs of any other remedies, and it's enough to try Sil.

There is a good description of Silicea here.

Again, the instructions for Silica are:

You can buy it at any health food store, or Whole Foods. I'd recommend that you buy Silica in 30c. To take a dose, put one pellet into a 10oz bottle of water, and one tablespoon is a dose.

This is a test dose, and depending on your response to this, the dosage and frequency can be adjusted.

Please describe how you feel after your first dose of Silica. That will be important in moving forward.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Ok thank you. I'll take the dose today. How long is the test period? Should I report back in a day or a couple of days?

For Learning.

You can describe how you feel anytime after you use the remedy. If you feel any difference in mood or physical symptoms after you use it, tell us.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thanks. It's been about 11 hours now since I took the test dose and I don't feel any differently.

ollie123 last decade
If you still have the bottle of water that you made the Silica in, give it 10 hard shakes, and then take another dose of 4 tablespoons.

We'll move up gently as we see what your sensitivity level to the remedy is.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thanks. I just took it about an hour ago and not sure if I am noticing much change...If anything I feel slightly lightheaded when I move around. What kind of changes should I be looking for?

ollie123 last decade
Ok. Let's wait. If you notice any improvement or new symptoms please describe them here.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thanks. The bleeding was always slight, but I seem to be bleeding a little less today than I was yesterday, and my sitz baths don't have as much of the stringy blood clots...I haven't noticed any other physical changes or changes in my mood.

ollie123 last decade
That's good, and a sign that the remedy is working. Please keep us informed of your progress.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
How's everything?

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
The bleeding has stopped but the cyst is still swollen and hasn't gone down. I have been busy lately and feel like I would like to take naps throughout the day. Other than that I haven't noticed any other changes.
