The ABC Homeopathy Forum

New Feature - you can now edit your posts

The title says it all really.

At the bottom, right of your posts, there is an 'edit post' link. Click that and edit away.

You can also delete your post by simply deleting the content. It will still show up as a deleted post though.

If you have any problems with it, please let me know.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Dear Simon

Thanks. It is a desirable feature for quick corrections, adding after thoughts etc. without making back to back posts.

However, it is better if the edit capability is limited to some 20 minutes after the post is made. Some good forums implement this.

Give it a thought.

Hi Murthy,

As ever, thanks for the feedback, I don't understand why this would be helpful. Is it to stop people editing posts to change what they've said in a heated discussion?

Previous versions of posts are stored (though not yet accessible), so anybody doing this will end up with egg on their face.

Dear Simon

Imagine a patient asking for help and a prescriber responding.

If the patient subsequently (say after a few months) deletes the post, the whole thread will become meaningless and the visitors will loose the benefit of the archives.

I know it happens rarely, neverthless it is a possibility.

What you said about heated discussions too may happen, but that is not much of a problem. If someone wants to make amends, it should be welcome. :-)

Any way, let us see how it goes,as it is, and you can always keep improving as and when necessery.

Regards

Murthy

Thanks Murthy,

I get people emailing me asking me to remove threads they've started anyway, if they've added personally identifiable information.

Let's see if it happens much more this way.

Simon,

I agree with Gavini about deleting a post after some time and the example he has given proves his point.

I remember requesting you to change the word month to week in my post of December 25 2004 and you did so as can be read even today.

May I suggest that you limit the time for the author to amend a post to 24 hours as this will enable anyone who notices a discrepancy to do so without contacting you.

The trouble is that people don't necessarily notice that, for example, they shouldn't have given their full name in a post, until they get their medical history when they search for their name in Google, many weeks later.

We will still have the original posts stored, so if people removing posts becomes a huge problem, we can revert to the saved post.

Does that sound OK?

Dear Simon,

How have you been? Nice to see this thread.

I greatly appreciate the system enhancements! This will really help the comprehensive communication.

I always get two e-mails for the same post. Is it normal? Also, I have to refresh the page each time to get to the current post. Is it also normal?

Please keep up the good, noble and kind work you are doing for humanity.

May God bless you?

Regards
Nawaz

Hi Nawaz, Joe is not getting any emails, so maybe you can lend him the spare one? ;-)

Yes you have to refresh the page to get to the current post, if the page is already open. If it's not already open, you shouldn't have to, no. Do you get the same issue on other forums?

Hi Simon,

Hey this is good one, Joe can take all of my e-mails!

I love and respect him so much that Joe can take all I have in this world.

Again, may The God Almighty bless Joe and you?

Regards
Nawaz

I did not get the email alert for both Simon's and Nawaz's posts.

I have also just discovered that there is no 'edit post' link on the text.

I use a MacBook Pro and this may perhaps be the reason why I do not conform to the PC standard.

I have just noticed the 'edit post' sign which appeared for the first time on this post.
